About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Samantha C0 contributionsAmazing dayAbsolutely amazing experience! Recommend for anyone visiting NT, and Jordan from @kookaburra air was such an awesome guide / pilot for the day!Written 13 August 2024
- damienw9350 contributionsA great way to see a large spanse of the Northern Territory. Worth every dollar! Spectacular day out. Highly recommend.Amazing views from the air across a great expanse of the Northern Territory all seen in a day! Spectacular scenery and great commentary along the way from Austin my very knowledgeable Kookaburra Air pilot. Views of Darwin and surrounds from the moment you take off, fly over the Stuart Highway and see the old telegraph carriage lines alongside, see many avocado and mango plantations as you head south, the abandoned gold mines full of water that surround Pine Creek, the changes in the landscape as you see Nitmiluk National Park prior to descent in to Katherine. A short ride from the airport to the Helicopter and a very memorable flight over Nitmiluk National Park heading to Katherine Gorge. From the air you get a perspective of the size and scale of the area. A view of the Gorge from the water as well would have been perfect but was not part of the tour. Back to the plane for a flight over Nitmiluk National Park and Kakadu National Park en route to Cooinda and the Kakadu Yellow Waters Cruise. Great views of Jim Jim Creek and South Alligator River on the descent in to Cooinda. Being the dry season in July, there were plenty of crocodiles and lots of bird life to see on the cruise. Simply spectacular scenery is all I can say. Following the cruise, I decided to grab a bite to eat at Cooinda Lodge prior to the return flight to Darwin. Austin recommended the Beef Burger and it didn't disappoint. The flight back to Darwin provided vistas over the Mary and Adelaide Rivers and stunning afternoon views of Darwin. Thanks to Austin and Kookaburra Air for a sensational tour! I would do it again in a heartbeat to see the scenery in the wet season. Highly recommend!Written 22 July 2024
- dstewar900 contributionsFantastic morning seeing Kakadu by air with Kookaburra AirFantastic morning with Matt, flew low so we got a great view of the landscape. Great to fly over places we had seen from the ground (especially the view of the “crocodile hotel” in Jabiru. Highly recommend.Written 23 May 2024
- 825glenh0 contributionsWhy let only the birds enjoy the view?Had a brilliant day with Captain "Air" Jordan. Sunrise from the air over Darwin was amazing and the day just kept getting better. The helicopter ride above the Katherine Gorge gives a spectacular perspective of the size and beauty not able to be truly appreciated by land. The cruise provides an up close experience of the Gorge. If you only have a short time in the Top End, treat yourself to an unforgettable day.Written 2 May 2024

- JennyD1310 contributionsThrill of a lifetimeWe were so glad we selected this scenic flight. They went out of their way to make our experience fantastic. Matt our pilot and guide was wonderful and made sure we saw as much as we could and were as comfortable as possible. Fantastic way to see Kakadu from the air, especially Jabiru. Loved it. Thank you so much Matt.Written 5 November 2023
- Bether6130 contributionsDon’t miss this!I had a fantastic day with this company. I’ve never been in a small plane like that and I was a little nervous and the pilot made me feel very safe and comfortable. I also enjoyed the river cruise more than I thought. Great commentary and lots of wildlife! This trip made me want to return to Darwin.Written 12 September 2023
- X3738AXtanyag0 contributionsLook no further - these are some of the best tours of NTAbsolutely amazing flight - awesome pilots ... no words can describe how much we enjoyed this flight. From the moment you walked in we were treated like old friends - great laughs and chat - best way to see some of our magic country. Couldn't recommend these guys enough. Already booked next flight for 2024 .. can't wait to experience this next adventure.Written 30 August 2023

- N3566VIalanh0 contributionsExperience of a lifetime! A MUST DO!!The experience was absolutely amazing. Ryan our tour guide was one of the most friendly people we have encountered and definitely knew his facts about the area. We cannot compare this experience with anything else we have done whilst travelling. We have traveled to 6 different countries over the span of our 4 month holiday getaway and this was our highlight experience and was well worth the money! Being able to see so much in a short time was fantastic. Well done.Written 18 July 2023
- NaturalThomas0 contributionsExcellent Experience x 2My original booking included a flight to Kakadu and a Yellow Waters cruise in that National Park. There was a bit of a mix up with that booking, but JFC Charters/Kookaburra Air did an excellent job of offering me alternative arraignments, so I confirmed this experience which included the flight to Katherine, and then I added to my original booking to include the helicopter tour over Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park as well. Though it involved a change in dates of my plans, and I upgraded to include the helicopter experience, I consider it a win-win remedy for both myself and the tour operator. My only advice here is to always contact the tour operators when booking through this site or others, just to confirm that everyone is on the same page. This is a tour operator that I would trust again based on how they handled that issue, and for the overall experience. Our pilots (Mx2) were professional, informative, and fun. We had an "extra" pilot for the bush plane because one of the M's was observing for doing the trip on future excursions, while the other bit our great M&M's was flying. I was traveling solo (from California) and there was a nice couple from Sydney along with us. (Who did freak me out a bit when they mentioned being in a plane crash in Kenya, due to some wildebeests on the runway when they landed. Our pilots Mx2 assured us that would not happen on this trip!) From take off just before sunrise in Darwin, seeing the sun come up over the NT while in flight, to each take off, landing, and each experience on the ground (and off the ground and back during the most excellent helicopter part of the tour experience) was great. Mx2 looked after us the entire way, and the entire experience was exciting, informative and fun. Not only a highlight of all my travels during my month Down Under, but a life travel highlight as well. Just do it! So cool. Such an amazing experience, with top-notch professionals along for the journey.Written 18 July 2023
- 765rosl0 contributionsInformative and beautiful scenic flightThere was a slight delay in getting away so it was a bit warmer in the plane however the flight itself was spectacular. We felt very confident in our pilot Steve and he provided a very informative review of the area, incorporating significant and lesser-known landmarks as well as indigenous stories. We flew down quite low in some areas and were able to spot some crocs. It was a great way to see the area and would recommend the tour. Trip info: probably just need to arrive 10 mins or so prior to start time, water provided, bathroom available in office area.Written 27 June 2023
- christianlW8245MD0 contributionsExcellent way to see the NTThe tour was excellent! We had a great day with two very friendly pilots (Ryan and Matt) the info was fascinating and the sights were so cool. Flight to Katherine and Kakadu was nice and smooth too! What a great way to see the northern territory when you’re short on time.Written 14 May 2023

Total disaster.
Arrived thismorning with my 22 year old son for trip of a lifetime.
Trip promptly cancelled because no-one to greet us at the locked up Kookaburra Air starting point. Had to phone them to see what was happening. Got the weekend duty guy on phone. Think he was in bed. He knew nothing of our booked trip. He called his boss. He confirmed (after I had to call him back as was still in Uber clocking up the $$$) that his boss said “sorry” but they hadn’t received the booking from Viator/Trip advisor.
Specifics:
Booking was confirmed by email on 13/12 by Trip Advisor.
$1780.00 taken from my visa for tour on 30/12.
Booking reconfirmed yesterday by text with link to ticket.
One day later - kookaburra Air knew naught?
Don’t know who is responsible for the human and/or IT error.
Regardless, we so so sadly missed out on what sounded like the trip of a lifetime.
Cannot even try to do another day because of time constraints.
We are so disappointed.
Icing on cake. Trip Advisor/Viator have informed me they will not pay for the cost of my Uber to get to the “non-event”. I actually threw the Uber driver $30 cash in his window as he was leaving because he didn’t want to charge us for our trip back from Kookaburra Air to Darwin.
On principal I will be chasing trip advisor/Viator down legally if they do not cough up the $31.00 Uber cost which they have said they will not cover.

This was very frustrating and upsetting for the team at Kookaburra Air Tours and we received no notification of the tour which is confirmed automatically without any input from us.
I did chase this up with Viator/Trip advisor and was just told that the email they send to the client requires that they contact us to confirm the tour. I have suggested that like others it may be a good practice to have the provider confirm the tour by return email or other method.
Once we get a notification of a tour we always make contact with the client to confirm and tidy up any loose ends.
When we started tours some 30 years ago it was very personal and people oriented. This is such a hard concept to maintain as the years go by and corporate automation takes over.

We had the most magic day. Beyond expectations.
Austin was or pilot for the day and Matthew, the co, we got 2 guys for the price of 1.
So informative showing the rivers and sites over to Yellow river, all at 3000+ feet.
Great tour on the river, lots of crocks, birds and beautiful plant life.
Home in 40 minutes at 8000+ feet.
Thanks guys for a fabulous day. The only way to fly 😊

Our day with Kookaburra Air was outstanding. We had an excellent pilot, Eric, who made sure we had a great day.
The views of the escarpments in Kakadu are amazing from the air, and I really loved the waterfalls.
The Yellow River boat cruise was amazing too. Highly recommend this tour as a great way to see Kakadu from Darwin!

Had a wonderful day out flying to Kakadu with our pilot Jordan. We flew over Kakadu and landed at Cooinda Resort where we then did the Yellow Water cruise and saw many crocodiles and birds. Seeing this land from the air was just wonderful. Highly recommended.

Jack was a professional pilot and friendly guide. There were 3 groups of 2 of us. We all expressed our thanks to Jack for the experience at Katherine Gorge and Kakadu. Sam, our helicopter pilot at Katherine was well informed, friendly and professional.
My husband and I really enjoyed our 1st top end trip. We do recommend JFC / kookaburra air.

The tour was first class - great way to see the park and the coast east of Darwin. It’s the dry season but a great time to see the crocs- the boat tour and guide were tops and we saw enough salt water crocs for a life time!

Our cruise ship is in Darwin for only one day... this dream trip to the NT on our Around Australia Cruise Mar-Apr 2020; NT is the highlight of our trip. Given the time of departure for this tour it appears with a 6am berth that we could fit this in nicely.
Q. Is a meal provided, given it is a 7hr tour, departing at 9.30am. No mention of this on anything I have read? It appears to also cater to the mature travellers? I have certain limitations with my walking?

Hey! Sorry we didn't see your question earlier. The aircraft used will depend on how many people in your group. Generally, however, your plane will have overhead wings :)
