We were on a flying visit to Adelaide in order to visit family and do some carefully chosen tourist things. We were so glad that we chose to do the Dolphin Sanctuary Kayaking Tour!

We opted for the 3 hour guided tour and our guide (Mitch) was awesome! We saw some wonderful wildlife and had dolphins swimming near us several times 🤗. The route took us deep into the incredible mangroves and the tour culminated it getting up close to some historical shipwrecks - each with an interesting story behind them that our guide expertly articulated.

I thoroughly recommend doing this tour - whether you’re just visiting or a resident who’s just not got round to doing it yet!

Our family of six (including 2 grandparents) took the 3 hour kayak guided tour from Angas Inlet Boat Club Port Adelaide. Our guides Kim & Zander provided basic instruction, a life jacket each & helped us into the water in our 2 man kayaks. They guided us into the open waters and across to the mangroves where we weaved in and out of the canopy laden course. That's where our new found skills were put to the test; manouvering under low hanging branches and avoiding others in the group. We then headed to the various ship wrecks along the shoreline while keeping an eye out for dolphins. Sadly only spotted a fin from a far off distance before returning to base.
All in all a great expetience. If you have shoulder, arm or back issues you may want to consider your ability as it is somewhat challenging.
Can't praise our guides highly enough. They were exceptional in looking after us and providing pandling advice when we needed it, always ensuring we were safe and not left behind.
Advise that you wear a hat, long pants & sleeves & lots of blockout as it gets hot out there. Take water too.
It can be a little difficult to spot this group at first as they are located at the far end of the Garden Isand carpark in a gated area. Other kayak tours are on the lawns of the carpark but that's not this group.

This was a great 3 hour tour during which we explored the mangroves, saw a small pod of dolphins and kayaked around the shipwrecks. The weather was blustery but our guide, Paddy, led us along a route which minimised the effects. Paddy is very knowledgeable about the area and its flora and fauna. This was a great way to end our month-long trip to Australia. Thoroughly recommended.

We had a lovely afternoon with Alex, our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the wildlife, mangroves and local history, also very friendly and was helpful in getting another lady back to her cruise ship on time.
Would thoroughly recommend this trip, we did see the dolphins together with egrets, pelicans and herons.
    Lovely area, enjoyed the experience.
Dry bags are provided so don't worry about things getting wet but then don't take much with you just the usual hat, sunglasses sun cream and camera obviously and wear something you don't mind getting wet & salty.
    Enjoy.

Kayaks were comfortable. Guide was knowledgeable. Sadly didn’t actually see any dolphins, we understand they are wild, therefore no guarantee, did not affect our experience.
The thing that really hurt the experience for us - we had one couple in our group that was extremely slow, so we spent half our time out in the kayaks just sitting and waiting for them to catch up. As a result we were not able to explore the shipwrecks at all. In my opinion they should have the individuals rate themselves based on ability and have the more experienced kayakers leave first. If any have over estimated their abilities they can always fall back to the slower/less experienced group. It would make the experience better for everyone.

Thank you for your feedback. It is most unfortunate that you had some slower kayakers in your group that obviously affected the tour on the day. We do hope you enjoyed the beautiful mangrove creeks and had plenty of time to explore them. From past experience trying to segregate groups does not always work, but thank you for the suggestion. We do try to make the experience best for everyone and we are always looking at improving.

This was a great kayak tour, it was my first time ever and it all went very smoothly. There were some really cool shipwrecks to see and we got to see a bunch of dolphins (with calves) swimming around us and even in-between us (they approached us). There were plenty opportunities for photos of the dolphins, birds, mangrove forests, and shipwrecks. Our tour guide Alex was very friendly and answered all of our questions, and he even gave us a ride to the train station afterwards as it's a bit of a long way outside the city. Be aware that you will be in direct sunlight for most of the tour and I did get a pretty bad sunburn, especially on my legs which I hadn't realized would get so exposed, so make sure you apply plenty of sunscreen. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the Adelaide area!

Great experience which was made better by the knowledgeable guide/staff member, Paddy.
The guided tour gave us lots of interesting and relevant information surrounding the mangroves and also the dolphins, to which we were lucky enough to see.

I did have concerns about other “wildlife” that we might encounter however the area appears really safe and the sun is your only threat.

Tips/feedback - As British tourists, this location is remote, there is nothing there apart for toilets. Normally not really a problem, however when I realised that we didn’t have any data/wifi and we arrived via Uber, left me a bit concerned to how we were going to get back to the city. Thankfully, Paddy allowed us to use his phone as a hotspot in order for us to book an Uber back (thank you Paddy). Perhaps that might be a consideration for the owner to look into WiFi for customers instead of relying on the staffs goodwill.

Other that a very enjoyable experience.

    We got lucky!
There is a chance you might not see dolphins. They live wild and if they’ve got other business that day then you’re out of luck.
We on the other hand had that day where even Alex, our guide, was going “oh my god! I’ve never seen this before!”
A pod of 4 (with 2 calves) right in the narrow mangrove creek diving right under the kayaks … just chilling out and playing within touching distance
I mean why wouldn’t you give 5 stars for that?
To be honest even if we hadn’t got so lucky I can still highly recommend this trip. An easy few hours paddling round old sea wrecks, through the mangroves and with an informative, friendly and knowledgeable guide (Alex. Did I mention him?)
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Had a fantastic day watching the dolphins and paddling into the mangroves. It was so peaceful and serene. We did our own tour with a guided map. A great Company to deal with, they were well prepared with life jackets & small waterproof bags to put your items in, ie your phone, wallets, keys etc. Very Professional and lovely to deal with – nothing was too much trouble. Will be back again most definitely. Amazing! Make sure you go to the very end of the car park through the gated area

Very enjoyable tour. It does get a bit tiring half way through, but you do have the option of finishing the tour early. I loved seeing the dolphins and the shipwreck was very interesting. I recommend this experience to those who want to enjoy nature in a different way.
