About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- marie P0 contributionsBrilliant first class experience !We did the boat cruise from Adventure bay and it was fabulous! The staff were fantastic, we felt safe and saw such beautiful scenery and wildlife.Written 26 February 2025
- 179sharynb0 contributionsZoe - best guide everEight of us went on the Bruney Island Day Cruise and had the most memorable day with Zoe who was not only our tour guide but also our bus driver. What a remarkable young lady, she was charismatic, bubbly, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant, we could not have asked for a better person she made the whole experience a memorable one. Could not recommend this tour more highly especially if you are lucky enough to have Zoe as your guide.Written 23 October 2024
- katiemY1999KV0 contributionsThe 3 Hour Wilderness Tour is a Must Do on Bruny IslandWe went on the 3 hour Wilderness Cruise at Bruny Island and loved the experience. Such beautiful coastline with caves, blowholes, seals and birds. Was a cherished part of our Tasmania holiday, would recommend to everyone.Written 23 March 2024
- Robert B0 contributionsExtremely well run tour company. Our tour was made a lot more interesting and fun by our guide, Zoe, who had a great sense of humor and tremendous local knowledge. And she's a great driver.Written 13 January 2024
- Henry S0 contributionsA wild adventure but not for persons susceptible to motion sickness! Our tour operator, Tauck, advertised this full day adventure as including a 3 hour “cruise”alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs”, “drifting up close” to a Breathing Rock, and “entering sea caves”. They said it could be cold and that gloves and jackets were highly recommended. Neither Tauck nor any guides mentioned that this cruise mostly was a speed boat thrill ride for most of the three hours. Some people clearly loved the relentless roller coaster experience crashing through ocean waves. Others of us did not. So, if you are looking for thrills, including some awesome sights, this is your adventure. If you are looking for a cruise and keeping down your breakfast, I would recommend you explore other options.Written 17 October 2023

- Niccers160 contributionsA great full day tour from HobartWe did the 3 hour boat tour with transport from Hobart. Definitely a great day out, the wind was gale force, however well protected with the raincoats provided on the boat. Lunch and morning tea were beautiful.Written 7 April 2023

- AZaknic0 contributionsA True ocean AdventureMy son & I did the all day wild life adventure. Bruny is beautiful but you need to pick your days (best to wait for a clear & sunny day if possible). The trip up was very comfortable and we managed to see a white wallaby on the way. Morning tea was a warm beverage & freshly baked blueberry muffin. Then it was time to head out to sea for 3hrs. For those that didn’t rug up they would have froze. The ocean swell was about 10mtrs (it felt like a wash machine), with the odd wave splashing into the boat. The scenery was spectacular. Our guides were great and very knowledgeable. Back on shore, the restaurant prepped a beautiful fresh & hot lunch.Written 12 March 2023
- louisekG1856VN0 contributionsA wild wilderness journey on the high seas!Wow! What an exciting cruise around Bruny Island. We felt like explorers braving the tempestuous sea! Captain Pennicott guided us expertly around the island for an exhilarating experience that is not to be missed if heading to Tasmania for a holiday!Written 2 January 2023
- JJawandering0 contributionsAn interesting tour of the island and offshore formationsThere is a land and sea option. If you are prone to seasickness, best to go for the land tour. On the boat tour, they offer you ginger tablets as a preventative measure against sea sickness, but that does not work for all people.Written 15 December 2022
- Jenny J0 contributionsAbsolute highlight of TassieWe didn't do the all day tour as had our own hire car so just did the boat trip once on Bruny Island. Would have to be the highlight of our 14 lap of Tassie for me. Exhilarating, saw whales, seals, sea lions, dolphins, albatross, blow holes and cliffs. We were warned to rug up and we are so glad we did or it would have been freezing. We had all the gear on we had warn in the snow a few days before and it was perfect. We would have been cold in anything less. Try and get an outside seat if you want to take photos rather than in the middle rows as it's difficult to get out to take photos otherwise.Written 16 December 2021
- Chris S0 contributionsDon't miss it.Bruny Island 3 Hour Wilderness Cruise. This is the third Pennicott cruise I've been on, and each one has been up to this standard. Our crew were professional knowledgable and friendly. They did every thing they could to deliver an experience you would not forget. We were lucky and got the trifecta, whales, dolphins and seals. Along the way fabulous scenery, a Shy Albatross or two and some Gannets. I would recommend this company without hesitation.Written 10 December 2021

- Christine L0 contributionsAmazing, exciting day, what an experience!!!The Bruny Island all day tour with the zodiac tour of the coastline was absolutely fantastic. Seeing that rugged coastline, the caves, the seals up so close was just amazing. Our guides Ben and Michael are such capable and knowledgable young men with endless patience, thank you for an unforgettable day. The stop at Get Shucked to buy local oysters was a bonus - the best oysters in the world!!Written 22 October 2021

The company will do pickups from certain places/hotels but in our case we just grabbed an Uber to their office on the pier. A 7.45 start (returned around 5.45pm) with a 40min bus drive through town and then around the coast to catch the ferry to Bruny Island. Along the way our knowledgeable guide and driver, Dan, tells interesting facts and stories and it really is nice to be able to just sit back and relax. The ferry is a quick 10min ride (on or off the bus) before we carry on across the island stopping at places along the way. First stop was the beer and cheese tasting. Not a beer drinker at all but a lovely glass of beer which went well with the few selections of cheese we were given to taste and hear about.
The weather was on and off rainy but it didn’t matter as Dan changed the tour around to make the most of it. A couple of stops for some lovely views, and even a short forest walk. Lunch is at a large restaurant where your choices are fish and chips, fish burger/roll and chips, soup and ham / salad roll or chicken salad. Our table happened to have an order of each and all were generous servings and really lovely. Oh and not to mention the entree of oysters - three each which I’m told were lovely (oysters are not my thing!)
Included is also any two drinks off the menu so a glass of wine and then a coffee was a great addition.
The honey stop allowed you to taste test several varieties and also get a free small jar to keep (note to kiwis or those from Sth Aus who cannot take honey back, they offered an alternative option). Then we were also given a small tub of ice cream - honey of course but also a chocolate or strawberry option. Oh and I mustn’t forget a stop at the private museum for some really interesting reading.
In our forties, we were likely the youngest on this trip but everyone was so lovely and friendly and it was a great way to see some sights, try some foods, and just enjoy the day. Plenty of variety, bathroom stops ;) and banter. Keep an eye out too - we even managed to spot a white wallaby! Take comfortable shoes, a warm jacket / rain jacket or similar as the wind got quite strong at some places and the rain comes and goes. I’d highly recommend this trip to those looking for a relaxed and convenient way to see the best Bruny Island has to offer. And the tour company, and of course our guide Dan, were simply awesome.

We had an unforgettable experience with Zoe exploring the wonders of Bruny Island. Her enthusiasm and warmth made the tour not only educational but also deeply engaging, as we learned about the island’s rich Aboriginal history and marveled at its stunning landscapes.
Touring with a tweenager, we know how challenging it can be to keep them impressed, but Zoe absolutely nailed it. Her vibrant energy and ability to connect with everyone—kids and adults alike—created a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all of us.
She was incredibly flexible, tailoring the tour to ensure it was optimised for our enjoyment and unique preferences. One of the highlights was brekkie pairing cheese and beer—a mind-blowing experience that delighted our taste buds and added a delicious twist to the day.
This tour was an absolute standout for the whole family, and we can’t recommend it enough!

We felt the service was fantastic, right from a day before to confirm pickup point phone call through o the personal ushering to ensure everyone is on board. Our hosts, Dan and Clare were just brilliant. Dan is an excellent commentator with jokes mixed in with facts, historical references and mythology and on the whole a very enjoyable commentary throughout and all of us on the bus enjoyed it. Clare I believe was in training and we were amazed with her skills in navigating through the peak traffic when we returned and she has a warmth and smile that brings in the sunshine on a dull day. Overall we made friends and great conversations through the atmosphere that the hosts created. highly recommended and thank you Dan and Clare.

While in Tassie last month, I travelled to Bruny Island (South of Hobart) on a tour booked through Pennicott Tours. My wife and I enjoyed finding out about some of the early exploration and colonial colonization of the Island.
We had an excellent guide who took us to various businesses such as cheese making and stout (delicious) ;honey making; ice cream; mead. As well, we saw a small museum with a colourful manager and some impressive early photos and journals.
Lunch was good in the tour companies own restaurant (I believe), that was very relaxing with local wine.
Walks through rain forest and bushland was another great feature.
A very beautiful small, ferry connected island, that no doubt likes to not have too much change to it's fantastic coast line.

generally against guided tours - they take a lot of time, mostly filler, you're at the mercy of a guide and lastly the make take you places you really don't want to go to. The tour with Pennicott was all the opposite. The driver/guide was knowledgeable, had a sense of humor, the stops were all interesting, the meal given was OK, and both the cheese/beer stop and oysters (though I'm not a fan) were very good. The tour itself encompasses all the main sites of Bruny island, from the views of the "neck", a small walk in the semi tropical forest, to the stop at the Bligh museum and the stopmwhere both Bligh and Cook stopped for fresh water from a stream that's still there. amazing and on the beach. SO I'm a fan and highly recommend the Traveller tour (we could only choose one!).

This is a "must do" day-trip for all those who are in Hobart for a few days and are not setup up for long walks. The Pennicott hosts did not put a foot wrong. Shout out to Allan who shepherded our somewhat eclectic group in and out of squalls and rain showers very successfully.

With three different tours all leaving from the same point and time on Franklin Wharf, the potential for chaos was high, but I was impressed with Pennicott's organisation and all got away smoothly. Our driver/guide warmed to his task during the course of the day, and I could not fault his service to the group. The various stops were well managed, and we never felt rushed at any stage. Fortunately, the weather was great, otherwise the climb to the Neck lookout would have been miserable, if not missed altogether. I was disappointed the Quarantine Station was not included in the tour, as I had heard that it was a very interesting place to visit. Overall, Bruny Island exceeded my expectations.

We booked this tour a week prior & revived a phone call the day before to say that due to a private function for 200 people at HIBA gardens we wouldn’t be going there. Disappointing as that’s one of the main reasons we booked this tour & I highly doubt the private event was only organised 24 hours prior, so the tour company would’ve known about it earlier just not informed us. With such short notice it didn’t give us many options since the day of the tour was our last full day in Tassie.
That aside, the rest of the tour was good albeit a little rushed in some parts such as the rainforest walk. It’s so beautiful we would’ve loved to see more.
Perhaps less ‘points of interest’ in tour itinerary but more time spent at each that deserve more exploration?
Tour option A: Nature lovers tour with lunch?
Tour option B: Gourmet lovers tour with views?
Bruny Island is absolutely beautiful so we would love to return and explore again in the future.
Alan our tour guide was an absolute star! He is very knowledgeable and was a pleasure to spend the day with. Thanks again Alan 👍

Dear Yvonne
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such considered feedback. We completely understand your disappointment on not visiting the HIBA gardens. We did only know about the event just before you travelled and not when you booked but understand more notice would have let you organise another option if preferred.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit overall to the island.
Best Regards

Hi, is this tour available by purchasing a gift voucher? My daughter lives interstate and I would like to give her this for Christmas but she will be in Hobert February/March.
Thank you

I cannot categorically state that this trip is available via Gift Vouchers. However the staff at the booking office are very very professional and friendly. I am sure that a quick call to them would provide the answer to your question.
On a personal note I think that this would be a superb gift for your daughter.

There’s a bit of hopping on and off the bus and a little bit of a walk through the creek/wilderness. It isn’t too strenuous and I’m sure they can tailor to your needs. The team at pennicotts will be able to advise. It’s very relaxed and picturesque with some food sampling’s along the journey. Only concern would be that it’s a big day and how your cherub will be, although there’s lots to see and do to keep everyone entertained. Enjoy Bruny!

The tour starts at about 8am from the waterfront so it might be tight for you. To be sure, you should email the tour operator directly to check if they can make special arrangements, especially if you get delayed a bit. They responded very promptly when I emailed them previously.
