About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- j1r20180 contributionsAbove and beyondColin was our driver. His "bad" jokes were very entertaining. We enjoyed the DOO village on the way. Port Arthur great to visit, and he prepared us well. All went as planned until we bid farewell at the end of the return drive. He took us to our cruise ship terminal, and warned us to make sure we had all our possessions, but I still managed to leave my phone behind, since it had dropped to the floor. Panic! as we were on a cruise ship leaving Tasmania, Australia within the hour for New Zealand. Unbeknown to me, Colin spotted the phone ant the next drop off, and returned immediately to hand it in to our cruise departure terminal. Meanwhile I had raced 10 minutes back to the Grayline tour desk, which had closed for the evening. A phone call to Grayline however did get a message through to Colin as to where I now was waiting. Colin came back again to pick me up!! After reassuring me, he then drove me again to the cruise ship terminal. So caring! So many red lights as he drove round there for the third time. What a star - many thanks. JayWritten 3 February 2025
- IceMommy0 contributionsPort Arthur via Grayline bus tours with- pros and consMy husband and I did the Port Arthur tour via Grayline bus tours with a convenient pick up location to our hotel. Driver was very pleasant and on time. He talked non stop the entire drive to Port Arthur filling in all sorts of great information for the majority of the clients. Our problem was we could hardly understand him - not sure if it was the intercom/microphone system or just his accident was so strong that it honestly was like a sound machine droning on and on…..I know he would have had great information and insight to tell most of the passengers about but missed the boat for us. We stopped at some Tasmanian chocolate foundry (not a factory) which was not even Tasmanian chocolate - apparently just melted down Belgian chocolate probably just some Tasmanian packaging. My beef with stopping here was that the bus driver didnt allow anything to come onto the bus so those people who purchased ice cream had to stand outside and eat it while the rest of us on the bus waited!!! Port Arthur itself was a great tour and highly recommend that but if you have trouble with accents, just know this is only going to be transportation.Written 3 February 2025
- soniakV5979PA0 contributionsGreat days tour!!!A well organised tour, comfy bus, and lovely driver who told us many stories and interesting facts. On the day we went, the weather was fantastic, which made our time so much more enjoyable. Lovely day out!!! We highly recommend this tour and tour company AAA service!!!Written 31 January 2025
- TINA W0 contributionsReally good tourI loved that the tour lady shared with us lots of local histories on the bus. The walks were not difficult which was very family friendlyWritten 29 January 2025
- 484margh0 contributionsA step back in timeGreat day tour from Hobart. Port Arthur is so prominent in our history, and a day to explore the remains of the colony was high on my to-do list. Exploring the old buildings, learning in the Gallery Museum and enjoying the harbour cruise all made for a fulfilling day. Topped off by visits to Richmond Bridge, Remarkable Cave, Tasman's Arch and a chocolate foundry made it a well-rounded tour. The only downer for me was the driver, who loved hearing himself talk, whether it be his sarcasm, lame jokes or deviations away from factual commentary.Written 27 January 2025
- Familytravelmaven0 contributionsWorth a visit to this historical siteFull day to tour the Port Arthur historical site. Mark, the tour guide and driver, kept us entertained as we drove through the countryside and kept stopping for views so we could get out of the bus as we went along. Lots of walking and a decent cafe while at the visitors center, along with the 30 min harbor cruise made for an enjoyable day.Written 26 January 2025
- Emilykemezys0 contributionsInformative historic tourAn amazing and informative tour! Our guide Colin was very knowledgeable and made us laugh throughout the day with his dad jokes. He went above and beyond for all on the tour. We learnt so much about the history of Port Arthur and the site was beautiful. Definitely worth the visit!Written 25 January 2025

- elsielclau0 contributionsRemarkable Port ArthurRob Coates’ local historical knowledge of Tasmania is just invaluable to us. He is friendly and approachable. Could just ask him about anything local and he would share with an interesting story alongside it. This made the trip a memorable one. Your suggestion to visit The Remarkable was remarkable. Thanks RobWritten 17 January 2025
- grwpl0 contributionsPort Arthur is worth a visitSubject: Port Arthur Full-day Guided Tour with Harbour Cruise and Tasman National Park First rule of customer service is under promise and over deliver. Advertising a hotel pick up at 8.45 and after booking changing it to a different pick up point, albeit 250m away at 8.15 is not a good start. Advertising WiFi on the coach and this not existing is not a good start. That said going to Port Arthur is really worthwhile, the stop for Tasmania Arch is great, the short boat cruise is pleasant, I wish I had booked the island of the dead element of the tour. Glad I did this by coach rather than drive. I wish the coach had a better sound system as it was impossible to hear a lot of the commentary. In this day and age there are better options for commentary than PA on a noisy coach.Written 16 January 2025
- shrinkguy0 contributionsPleasant day tripFun little day trip. We got to see parts of Hobart that we would have missed. Richmond was a nice stop for a drink. The Wildlife Park was very interesting. Animals are treated with kindness. Comfy bus with good commentary. A nice way to spend an afternoon.Written 15 January 2025
- Q5941CPgaryt0 contributionsLarge group tour of over 40 people.A lot of information was provided. This is a large group tour using a large tour bus. Our group has over 40 people. I should have booked a smaller group tour.Written 13 January 2025
- Wander225768311260 contributionsAwesome Tour of Port ArthurAwesome tour with the best driver ever! Fun filled tour with heaps of history and tons of laughter. Our tour pilot Colin was very funny and the coolest driver Ive met. The tour was well timed, lots of things to see and do. 100% recommended and ideal for families. Pick up points are very convenient and plenty of seating in the bus.Written 8 January 2025
- ohshiny0 contributionsMisty MountainsIt was a beautiful experience. The guide was quite knowledgeable, and provided information about the area, history, native animals and plants along the way. It's quite chilly and windy at the top, but that's definitely part of the experience.Written 8 January 2025
- ritzatliberty0 contributionsIntriguing history with absence of guide interaction & lead; largely a self tourCould’ve been better with nicer weather and more interesting content, although some parts of Port Arthur stories were intriguing. Our guide didn’t say much of substance and a lot of the day was us walking around and exploring things on our own, a lot of which had to do with convicts & prisons.Written 7 January 2025

What an excellent way to kick off our quick long weekend getaway to Hobart. The afternoon of our first day was delightful. With only the four of us and two other people on the bus the whole experience was relaxing and such a pleasure. The driver was extremely informative and entertaining with the occasional corny dad jokes thrown in.
I would recommend this tour for anyone wishing to relax and enjoy the scenery of Hobart and Richmond countryside.

Hi trevhead,
Thank you for your great review and feedback. So pleased to hear that our afternoon Historic Richmond tour was the perfect way to kick off your visit to Hobart. The driver with the 'dad jokes' may be a repeat offender so we will look into this!! Thanks again

Richmond is a gorgeous little town. Tea and scones a must ! The only criticism I have is that a lot of the shops closed at 15.30 . We arrived there at around 13.30 visited the jail and after a drink we missed out on some shops and galleries. Perhaps the tour guide can recommend shopping first then go to the jail etc . The tour guide was an amazing !

This is a pretty, small town. The jail (gaol) tour was interesting. But the rest of the tour is to various shops selling items: food, glass, jewelry, wood pieces, etc. So if you’re looking for gifts or souvenirs, this is a good bet. Bring (or purchase) a picnic lunch if it’s a sunny day and sit by the 1825 bridge.

Hi Virginia, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate all feedback and use it to improve our overall customer experience. And we agree, lunch by Australia's oldest convict built bridge is a must. Thanks again
