A peek into the alleys and arcades of Melbourne
Great thing to do, got to see the vibrant retail and hospitality shops tucked away in the alleys and arcades of Melbourne with a glimpse into the history of the city and some of its notable citizens. The small group allowed time for questions. Our guide, Dee, was knowledgeable and entertaining. I highly recommend it.

An Amazing way to learn about Melbourne
Kathy is an amazing tour guide with so much knowledge and so friendly! Everyone else in the tour bailed too late for them to message me and when I showed up she still did the tour with just me which I appreciated so much! If you want a great introduction to Melbourne or just want to learn some of the off the beat paths and history this is the perfect tour to do that!

      So much to see
This was a great way to see parts of Melbourne you've probably walked by and never knew about. John our guide was very knowledgeable and told us history and showed us some interesting sights. Well paced and included a drink stop at a lovely eatery I even went back to. Well worth going on, I'll be recommending to everyone.

Best walking tour we've ever booked!
This was a wonderful adventure into the art and history of Melbourne's Laneways...and so much more! Our guide, Kathy, led us through an incredible array of historical and cultural city highlights, from major must-sees to shops and galleries we would never have noticed. We returned to some of the places she showed us and her restaurant recommends were great. We booked this tour when it was sold out as a Viking cruise excursion and wound up delighted that the Viking gig didn't pan out. San was wonderful to work with on the booking/planning end (incredibly responsive and helpful!), and Kathy was top-notch. She was so knowledgable, engaging and fun to be with. We learned so much from her and were sorry when the tour came to no end. We thought this would be a great overview of the city that would basically enable further explorations on our own. But we saw and did so much with Kathy that we felt if our time in Melbourne had been limited to that tour alone, we knew we had seen the best of the city. Big thanks to Kathy and San. We HIGHLY recommend this tour!

      Laneways Tour Exceeds All Expectations
This was a fabulous tour. Our guide Kathy was very knowledgeable and personable. We covered a lot of ground. We saw and learned so much, going through many laneways seeing the art and graffiti. Kathy also covered the historical and cultural background of Melbourne, the CBD, and the laneways. It was great. This tour is highly recommended!

Miss Phryne Fisher Murder Mysteries Tour
Kathleen Deacon’s tour based on Miss Phryne Fisher’s Murder Mysteries was outstanding. Due to Ms. Deacon’s memory of dates and architecture, my wife and l plus another couple, were treated to a special history of Melbourne. In addition to our tour, Ms. Deacon conducts tours centered on dining, local history, special bars and pretty much anything about greater Melbourne. She is a great storyteller.

      A professional and interesting tour!
Since I turned out to be the only one doing the tour that day San gave me a very exquisite tour. San customized the tour to include more architecture which suited me fine. I hade a very nice tour and got to know a lot about Melbournes history. I can highly recommend Meltours!

      Laneways Top Tour
A fantastic tour with John. We learnt so much about the history of Melbourne while exploring interesting laneways, alleyways and arcades. Definitely recommend to give you the required background to why the centre of Melbourne is what it is.

Thanks San for a perfect tour
Thank you very much to San for a first-class tour. Very informative and a genuinely fascinating insight into some of Melbourne's hidden architectural gems. The one thing I learned when wandering around Melbourne's CBD is to look up and around you when visiting as otherwise you'll miss out on so much! As San mentioned it obviously looks even better in winter when you can take advantage of the light.

Don’t go past the laneways tour!
I booked a private laneways walking tour for our group of 9 ladies. San was a wonderful guide for our girls trip. Our tour was the perfect mix of historical facts and stories mixed with hidden gems we’d never notice on our own in Melbourne. The street art was fabulous, and Sam showed us many quirky little stores, laneways and fab eateries. I’ll definitely book MELtours again next time I bring a group to Melbourne. Highly recommended.

We absolutely could not have enjoyed this tour more! Kathy was an AMAZING guide....incredibly knowledgeable, high energy, warm, and personable! The tour was the perfect blend of information about Melbourne's history, the architecture, the street art, and a variety of other city "gems." HIGHLY recommend!

Definitely Spend Some Time Finding These!!
These were REALLY interesting, and well worth seeing. The Mission District of San Francisco has a lot of street art and murals, but it is mush more sophisticated and mural-y, whereas my experience of the Laneways was more graffiti, which is more of a "HEY MA, LOOK AT MY INITITALS! I PEED AROUND THE EDGES OF THIS WALL!" than artistic expression. There are enough exceptions for me to give it a 4 and say "It is a must do in Melbourne!!"

This was the very first thing we did on our recent visit to Melbourne. As lovers of all things foodie, we were keen to delve into the culinary side of the city as soon as poss, and boy did this tour tick all the boxes. Kathy was our guide, and we were lucky enough to be the only ones with her that day. She was so knowledgeable and shared interesting stories of the early food pioneers in the city, and how the food scene had evolved, whilst wandering the area and tasting and sampling lots of delicious treats along the way. The three hours went so fast, but we packed a ton in. Can highly recommend this for anyone wanting to learn about the food history of this gastro forward city.

It was a very pleasant tour, I got a good idea of the Melbourne life and how the city developed. It was very entertaining and I would recommend it for foreigners but also for locals. It felt like walking through the city with a friend not just with a classic tour guide. It was my partner's and my wedding gift, and I would not have wished for sth else.

I am a local and I took my mum from overseas on the tour. Kathy was our tour guide and she was fantastic. She has a wealth of knowledge about the restaurants and she links it to the history of Melbourne. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The highlight is the Spring Street Gelato.

My partner and I, both from Melbourne, loved this tour. The pace is relaxed, yet we managed to cover plenty of ground. We were both delighted to learn about hidden lunch spots so close to our CBD offices. Kathy is an excellent guide - we both remarked that she felt more like a hip friend than a tour guide! Highly recommended.

To have a good tour you need just two things - a guide who is informative, social and can get the group socialising together And second is several quality eateries on the tour. Unfortunately we were let down by both. The tour didn’t start with gelato and coffee as described but a visit to a local cheese maker. This was actually the best part of the tour which we all enjoyed. Although the guide did this weird thing whereby he didn’t know where to pay and at each place paid as we went along. It felt a bit unorganised from the start. Let’s say it wasn’t smoothly done as we stood waiting for him to pay.

From then on we raced through Melbourne (we had two lovely 80 year olds with us who struggled to keep up). The guide marched on leaving us to walk with them as they were panicking they would get lost

On past food tours we have visited local eating places, had a chat about how they started out and had a sample of food. Instead we went into local shop keepers They said when they came to Melbourne. We left. We got taken around a Chinese supermarket where the Chinese version of a pot noodle was pointed out to us Just weird. We did watch noodle making in a window - as did joe public - then we left again with no sample food. We walked into one restaurant that had staff in but was still closed with chairs up on tables to watch them make dumplings and the guys in the restaurant looked baffled and definitely werent expecting us Our guide did thumbs up to the lady making dumplings saying keep up the good work and again we were ushered out without food. Just really awkward

We sampled cheese at the first place, we had a little cake at another and a coffee at another. Then lunch whereby incidentally you have to pay extra for drinks on the day. At this point we sat down to order and our guide left us as he had a wedding to attend so we all sat and discussed with each other how bad the day had been There were six of us on the tour We did do the I’m Free Melbourne Walking Tour which was sooooo much better and we gave her $20 for her efforts then went and eat on our own but that was so good and so much less $$$ Sorry guys. I’m trying to think of a positive but struggling Everyone agreed we wouldn’t forget it

Hi Nicola. Thanks for taking the time to review our Taste of Melbourne Tour. We are extremely embarrassed by your experience of the tour. We have taken your review on board with our team to work on it so no one will have this same experience like you had on this particular day. Our Food tour is very special to our company. Its not very often at all we receive a review like this for our tours so we do take all concerns on board. The tour does start with a cheese and gelati tasting. Coffee and a sweet treat are along the way. We do stop at an asian supermarket and we do watch asian dishes being made. What isn't the experience that is normally given is and awkward one. For this I do appoligise immensely.
