Overview
Discover the famous wineries and top natural attractions of New Zealand’s North Island on this 7.5-hour Piha and Karekare rainforest tour from Auckland. Travel through the Henderson Valley to Babich Wines, Kumeu River Wines, and West Brook Wines with a guide and sample the chardonnay, pinot gris, and pinot noir wines in production. Admire panoramic rainforest views at the Arataki visitors’ center, and discover natural sites of interest including Piha beach and the Karekare waterfalls. This tour includes lunch and round-trip travel from your Auckland hotel.
Highlights
  • Three guided wine tastings in the Henderson Valley, Ararimu Valley, and Kumeu
  • Spectacular views of the Waitakere Ranges and West Coast beaches
  • Great value: hotel pickup, lunch, and round-trip transport included
  • Personalized experience: small group of up to 11 people
What to Expect
After pickup from your Auckland hotel, leave the city and head south along the West Coast in an air-conditioned minivan. The first stop of the day is Babich Wines, a family-run winery in the Henderson Valley, where you can sample wines grown in the valley, as well as from the Babich vineyards of Hawkes Bay and Marlborough.

Next, visit the Arataki Visitor Centre in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, where you can learn more about the region’s geology, wildlife, and Maori heritage. Continue to Piha Beach and Karekare beach, both known for their black volcanic sands, and take a short hike to see the beautiful Karekare Waterfalls.

After lunch at a local café, spend the afternoon wine tasting, with visits to West Brook Wine in the Ararimu Valley and Kumeu River Wines along the Kumeu Wine Trail, which is famous for its chardonnay.

Finally, return to Auckland, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

We were there in Oct and it was way too cold for that. The ocean will always be too cold in that area. The water falls might be OK at least to wade in. Doubt you would want to stay long. It is not the tropics.

No response from John so no tour for a solo traveler. No worries, I'm spending 3 weeks in NZ - that I'm not welcome on John's tours won't ruin my trip!
