About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- cduar0 contributionsBest Wellington tour guideWellington was a great city to visit. Although the weather was not very favorable that day, but our tour guide Tom from Kaewa Tours made it very special. He was very accommodating, gracious, friendly and informative. We had a bunch of awesome pictures which he took by himself and compiled for us. He accommodated our request to change the itinerary for that day due to heavy rains, and he made it possible and made sure that we enjoyed. If you happen to visit Wellington, I strongly recommend Kaewa Tours to handle your tour and prepare the itinerary for you. We viewed Te Papa and the QT Hotel and marvelled how the QT Hotel was moved on rails to make way for Te Papa to be built. Waterfront walk where we put ourselves for "I" in the WELL_NGTON sign, viewed the city from virtual sculpture – now you have Halos! Lambton Quay: On the left-hand side of the Quay was the original shoreline in January 1855. An 8.2 earthquake resulted in the land being uplifted. Parliament Buildings and Grounds: We viewed the iconic ‘Beehive’, Houses of Parliament and the Parliamentary Library building. Old St Pauls where Paddy took us on a guided tour through Wellington’s first Anglican Cathedral which was built in 1866. Here the American and Marine Corp flags have proudly hung since World War 2. We drove past the official Prime Ministers residence on Tinakori Road, Thorndon – Premier House. We drove down Bolton Street where the motorway went through the original settlers cemetery - Bolton Cemetery requiring the relocation of over 3,000 graves. We attempted to visit Space Place adjacent to the Cable Car but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance. We visited national museum, Te Papa.Written 19 July 2024
- marygQ9941QZ0 contributionsWorthwhile ExperienceWe had an awesome day out, great food, great coffee and great gin. Pickup and drop off from our Hotel in Wellington. Tom was an informative host with good information, a thoroughly enjoyable day. It's the second tour we have undertaken with Tom and would be happy to recommend it.Written 14 July 2024
- Road587710350410 contributionsPrivate Martinborough TourHighly recommend Kaewa Tours! We were visiting the area for the first time from the US and needed a private driver. Tom setup a Zoom to meet us live and review our needs. He setup a customized daily itinerary for the family ensuring that we got to our destinations timely and incorporated several tours along the way. He was prompt, flexible, professional, knowledgeable, knew everyone and most importantly had a great sense of humor. He became just an extension of our family. We thoroughly enjoyed New Zealand and were lucky enough to have Tom guiding us.Written 23 June 2024
- Vacation114274111190 contributionsTop wine tour with an amazing guideAn amazing trip, Tom is so knowledgeable about everything in Wellington and showed us loads of things before we even left the city. It’s a stunningly beautiful drive out of the city and a poignant stop at a WWI site before dropping into the winelands. Our first stop was probably our highlight as we stopped off at Le Gra. A small place run by a family and in a quiet side road……….heaven. The staff were amazing and after a few pictures we were told about the wines by Brian. We then had a very tasty lunch and a look around the vines. Would highly recommend this place. Our next winery was Johner Estate, proper in the sticks, but so nice. Great tastings from the really knowledgeable young lady. I was talking proper BS now so was loving it. Our last stop was in Martinborough, a place called Poppies, we had a few photos in the vines before sampling a few of the liquid goods. Again, the staff are so knowledgeable, they seem to know a lot more than me and I have been tasting wine for a lot longer than them. We then headed back to Wellington. What an experience which was for my 40th birthday and worth every penny. Tom is a very easy guy to talk to and knows answers to pretty much anything you ask him. What a stunning tour, would highly recommend to anyone want to see the winelands of Wairarapa.Written 21 June 2024
- bobkO1556HE0 contributionsA great visit.Tom was an excellent guide. We covered the city with photo opportunities at all of the viewpoints. He also took pictures from some special places. It was a great day.Written 12 June 2024
- T2884RSphilippeh0 contributionsAwsomeWe had an unforgettable day with Andrew / most likely the best way to visit Wellington surroundings. We used his deep knowledge to discover hidden spots and used his full flexibility to tailor the day with our wishes. Great experience. Many thanks. Philippe and Nathalie.Written 12 June 2024
- michellebP4057SC0 contributionsMust do tourI took the Private Wairarapa Wine Delights Tour from Wellington with Tom and it was a fantastic experience. All of the stops were amazing but Poppy's was my absolute favorite. It was great getting to chat with some of the owners to learn more about their wines. The icing on top was the fact that Tom takes photos of you during the experience. As I was traveling solo during my trip it was so nice to have some candid shots along with some additional staged ones to commemorate the experience. I will 100% be scheduling another experience with Tom if I ever get back to Wellington for another trip.Written 11 June 2024

- mandysF3981RD0 contributionsBest in region!! 😀My husband and I had the pleasure of a free lance Kaewa Tour and we jumped at the opportunity. I have had the pleasure of a Foodie Tour in the past with my best friend and this time I took my husband. We stayed in Martinborough at another good friends business (exquisite) and this allowed for multiple local wine tours, a visit to the Honey Farm, Olive farm and a gin tasting. I noted there was a few companies doing similar jobs around the town that were offering a good (driver service) which had me feeling like I chose the best in the region. Tom and Jill were amazing hosts that were with us each step of the way. Incredibly well known and loved by all staff of all businesses we visited and we got some pretty good purchase deals along the way due to these established relationships. Absolute next level service, don't book anyone else. These guys are your one stop shop for local knowledge, care and engagement. Loved the whole weekend and we will be back again. Third time is the ultimate charm right? 😁Written 10 June 2024
- SuzanneW1860 contributionsAn amazing and unique experienceThe whole day was amazing despite the slight drizzle. We were collected from home and driven to Kapiti where we did quite a few activities. Cider tasting and ice cream made from foraged plants was an amazing experience. Roasting our own coffee was a highlight. Sitting on heated concrete seats while eating lunch was so warming while we sipped on wine and had a lovely lunch. Tom was informative and very entertaining. I would recommend this trip with Tom as he was a great host. Thank you.Written 9 June 2024
- 280ambers0 contributionsAmazing private tour with Tom for our honeymoon!!We had an amazing private tour during our honeymoon with Tom! Tom and I emailed back and forth to come up with a somewhat custom tour to visit the Cape Palliser seal colony and then we added in some fantastic stops along the way. He picked us up at the cruise port and took us across the Rimutaka Crossing to Martinborough to Poppies for a delicious wine tasting and the best charcuterie board we have ever had. Then he drove us out to Cape Palliser to see the lighthouse and the seal colony. He even made time to stop by Kaitoke Regional Park where they filmed Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings. Tom even brought his camera to make sure he got some great photos of us during our experiences. We highly recommend taking a tour with Tom!!Written 9 June 2024
- 789kunalp0 contributionsAmazing Wellington Day Tour!Tom provided a wonderful day out with my family. He went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our experience. - 9220PMiguel0 contributionsMy wife and I had a very delightful day touring with Tom. His knowledge of the Wellington area is very thorough.Very complete tour of the Wellington area. The tour offers a very personal experience for a couple who want to spend a full day touring the Wellington area.Written 8 June 2024
- lonk550 contributionsComprehensive private tourFor a comprehensive overview of Wellington, with private insights from an informed guide, this is the place. Bryce made sure we did the must-sees like the waterfront, Parliament and a ride on the cable car, but made sure we had breathtaking views of the City from all sides which gave a great orientation not just to the history, but to the geography of Wellington.Written 25 April 2024
- E3668YGsandrak0 contributionsWonderful experience!Tom was a delight to be with and we had a wonderful time seeing the sights of Wellington. He even went out of his way to hire a particular vehicle we needed for a disabled friend, which no one else would do! Thank you Tom for going above and beyond for us. Highly recommended!Written 13 April 2024

This tour was amazing. We got to roast our own coffee beans and learn about the process. We brought some home and everyone loves the coffee. Additionally, we got to tour a chocolate factory, eat at local restaurants, and go to a local brewery. The food was amazing and we enjoyed Tom’s stories about all the places we visited. Tom is honestly the best not only tour guy but person.

We are thrilled that we chose Tom and Jill with Kaewa Tours. From our first contact with Tom by phone, we knew that the week we toured around the Kapiti/Wellington area, we were getting first-class, personalized treatment. Tom picked us up at the airport and started our tour right away, on our way to our B&B. The best part of the tour week was meeting the owners of the unique small businesses: the Manuka honey, the coffee brewing, the olive oil, Tom and Jill even had us to dinner at their home--we felt like family. We couldn't imagine a better guide to learn about the real New Zealand.

We had the best time traveling around with Tom. First and foremost his driving was impeccable on the windy streets of Wellington! We could not have done that kind of driving ourselves. Everyone we met at each of the establishments were fond of Tom and therefore fond of us. That made a huge difference than if we had done this on our own. We love food tours and they are the best ways to get to know a city. This tour with Tom goes down as one of the best!

We are a couple from the United States, just outside of Boston, and were visiting Wellington and wanted to see the sites and fun local attractions. We met Tom for a foodie tour and he was an amazing host/ambassador. He was punctual and communicated all that we were going to do for the day. He started our meeting by setting expectations and letting us know what we’d be in for. He’s got a great sense of humor and is obviously very knowledgeable of the area. He provided great insight into various areas as we cruised around the city. He checked in with us often to make sure we were comfortable and getting what we wanted out of the tour. The tour took us most of the day and we were able to see beautiful views while sampling coffee, a fine lunch, and craft beers. Tom exceeded expectations as a guide and did a great job of letting us know about things we could explore on the days we were spending in the city. I’ve been to many cities on many tours, and Tom ranks among the best. I highly recommend engaging him and Kaewa tours.
