Great family morning out for rain or shine
Great exhibit with all fine detail which was pretty impressive but then when it comes from Peter Jackson wouldn’t have expected anything else, WW2 exhibit wasn’t done by Peter Jackson and yet was still awesome with great planning and imagination that gone fone into the set ups, loved the screening at the end and even our little ones did too who at just turned 3 and 2 sat through the whole 7min video and was well set up and information interesting. Coffee was great afterwards with a great selection of toys for our littles one to keep entertained and all staff were helpful full of information throughout.

Wow
May 2021
This was so much better than we ever imagined. The presentation, the stories and of course the planes. Great to see, can't recommend it highly enough. I had thought it would appeal to my husband more than me but that wasnt the case. Go and see it if you are in Blenheim.

Thank you! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us. There are so many stories being told at Omaka and I totally agree you don't have to be a guy to enjoy or appreciate them.

AMAZING AND A MUST
Apr 2021
An excellent exhibition. Both my husband and 13yr old son enjoyed both the WWI and WW11 exhibits. There is so much information to take on board along with a wealth of memorobilia that has been out together. The displays are so detailed and amazing to think that in New Zealand we have all these pieces of history. It was even better that during the school holidays kids go free.

World Class Exhibition
Feb 2021
We planned our trip to Blenheim to come and see Omaka. We thought it would be good, but it was even better than anticipated. We arrived just after it opened in the morning and left as it was about to close. It is a world class exhibition beautifully presented all that you would expect of a Peter Jackson collaboration. We didn’t get to see the classic cars as we ran out of time. We were told that there are plans to expand, we certainly hope so as we will be back.

Incredible experience
Feb 2021
An excellent facility and well worth the visit. It is one of those places that you could visit time and time again and see new material. While not the largest of aircraft displays, the unique aircraft, the terrific presentation, the quality of the layout and the exquisite collection of unique memorabilia make this a must see.

A must do when in Marlborough
Jan 2021
This is truly a must do. Feel transported to another time in history we can only try to comprehend. The stage settings were phenomenal. And the 'surprise' movie at the end is 'sobering'. The roving guide was informative and delivered the narrative well. The premises are immaculate. Easily spent a couple of hours there. Very good value for money. Highly recommend

Two Museums/Exhibitions to Visit
Mar 2020
There are two museums/exhibitions to visit at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre; 'Knights of the Sky’ covering WW1 and ‘Dangerous Skies’ covering WW2. The planes in the 'Knights of the Sky’ museum are part of Peter Jackson's (Lord of the Rings fame) private collection. Peter Jackson combined with a local group of vintage aeroplane enthusiasts to build the facility. He paid for the whole project and used his people from Wingnut films to build the dioramas and Weta Workshop to make the manikins. The result is a fantastic exhibition, really lifelike, telling the story of aircraft in WW1. The dioramas and manikins in the 'Dangerous Skies' were also made by Wingnut and Weta. There is a combined ticket for both exhibitions, which will safe some money on the entrance fee. There is a Seniors rate but only for New Zealanders over 65! There is also a small café located in the 'Knights of the Sky' building. It is also possible to have a flight in a restored Yakovlev Yak – 3 (Russian WW2 fighter plane) or a US Army Air Corps Biplane – Boeing Stearman (US military training plane). Prices are not cheap but what an experience.

surprising
Feb 2020
Having visited many vintage car and aircraft exhibitions, this one is certainly out of the box. The presentation in live scenery, with painstakingly crafted details is surely amazing. In that respect it is unique in its kind. The number of aircraft may be somewhat limited, but the presentation makes it worth while.

highlight of hubby's trip to NZ
Dec 2019
Visiting the Aviation Centre was on my list (for my ex serviceman hubby) to do when in the area. He went for the morning and came back on a high. The professional standard and presentation at this Centre was in his opinion very high. He took lots of great photos which he has shared with anyone who is interested. If you have someone in the family who likes aviation, don't miss dropping them off here for the day!

Aviation isn't really my thing, so we nearly didn't visit, but finding we had time as we drove up to Blenheim, and having had it recommended, we decided to give it a go. THIS IS A MUST STOP. There are currently two exhibitions - WW1 and WW2 and you can do either or both. The planes in WW1 are owned by film director Sir Peter Jackson and he has used his expertise and associates to show the planes off to good effect. They aren't just static, but come to life amid very realistic dioramas and with lots of accompanying photos and information. There's even the odd film footage - my favourite is dropping bombs over the side of the plane by hand. Some of the planes are original and some replicas.

WWII has been developed by volunteers and still has some fantastic diaromas and memorabilia, but isn't as large. The guides in both hangars are keen and knowledgeable. In time it's hoped there will be further hangars including a Lancaster replica. Allow plenty of time - we only had a few hours which wasn't enough.
