One thing better than a day cruise on spectacular Milford Sound is an overnight cruise. Cruise the length of the sound on the Milford Mariner, and anchor overnight at Harrison Cove. Experience the sound after the day trippers have departed, and before they arrive. Explore further by paddling on a kayak, perhaps even spotting birds and wildlife, and getting up close to waterfalls.

There have been torrential rains and many slips which caused some sections of the roads to wash out. Traffic to Milford Sound has been restricted to convoys of buses and emergency vehicles. Once you get to Milford Sound, it is beautiful. We took a tiny backpack and there is

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight cruise on the Mariner! Unlike seeing the Sound on a cruise ship, the Mariner is small enough to really get close to the waterfalls, New Zealand Fur Seals and other sights on this majestic fjord. There were opportunities to kayak, and even

Tip of the day - the rooms on the boat are small so leave you big luggage at the hotel in Queenstown and just pick it up when you get back. Bring a small backpack for the overnight cruise. We did this for our honeymoon and it was one of our favorite things! You can drive there

We drove to the Milford Sound ferry terminal and I definitely recommend this mode if possible. Being able to stop en route was critical for us- there are so many breath-taking WOW moments, you'll want to soak it up as much as possible. Give yourself more than 2 hours leeway to
