Make your way to the designated meeting point in central Queenstown and check in 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. It's just a 15-minute drive to the site of the flying fox, located in a secluded area of the Shotover River.
After a short walk up to the starting point, you're given a safety briefing and fitted with a harness and helmet. You'll be attached to a unique rail launch system. When you're ready, choose a forward or backward drop style or take a flying leap off the 597-foot (182-meter) cliff edge above the Shotover River. At the end of the rail, you'll free-fall onto the zipline, reaching speeds of up to 40 mph (65 kph) while you zip across the canyon.
On the return, zip as fast as you can by holding your knees up while you race side by side with a friend. Or simply lean back and take in the vista during the 787-foot-long (240-meter) high-speed ride.
Back at the base, souvenir DVD and photo packages are available for purchase. Finish your 2-hour tour with drop-off in Queenstown.
