- GlobeTrotterrrrrrrr0 contributionswine tasting & lunchHunter Valley is a beautiful drive. Gud knowledge of wines and lots of wine to taste. Australian wines are mostly dry. We had lunch after wine tasting followed by some tea/coffee to relax. Lunch was okayish and so was the vineyard tour. They only showed the small vineyard at the parking but we were expecting more. I have done wine tasting and vineyard tour in Napa Valley, US and they were take you around the proper vineyards. However, the knowledge of wines and wine tasting everyone enjoyed.Written 30 May 2020
- JonathanP5850 contributionsEntertaining and informativeWe had a great host/guide in Dave would certainly recommend you have have him. He had a great sense of humour, he clearly understands wine and took the trouble to find out our tastes before making his recommendations. Would heartedly recommend this experienceWritten 27 September 2019
- 120sherrylc0 contributionsWine school reviewThe wine school at Huntervalley Resort in Pokolbin NSW is well worth the visit for anyone wanting to round out their knowledge of the process of wine making from grape to cellar door tasting. David led us through a light hearted presentation for approximately 1hr that was comprehensive without being too complex. Plenty of opportunity for questions and David threw in some great bits of unusual knowledge. We then went through to the cellar door tasting where Elouise led us through a wonderful array of wines and how to correctly taste and identify different varieties. We were bursting with questions which the staff answered very capably. I would thoroughly recommend the wine school to anyone touring the cellar doors and wanting to know more about wine varieties. Thankyou David and Elouise for your interest and patience in our enthusiastic questions.Written 25 February 2019
- Lucy S0 contributionsGreat wine, great educationWe stayed at Hunter Valley Resort and got a free coupon for the Wine Theatre. David, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful, making sure the group felt comfortable and enjoyed the experience. We ended up joining the Imbibe club to be able to taste more of these great wines back home in Sydney.Written 21 June 2018
- rlewisdds0 contributionsGreat learning experienceHaving very little knowledge of wine and the proper way to evaluate and drink it, I decided to go to wine school at the Hunter Valley resort. David was our instructor's and he was so patient, knowledgeable and helpful. I think I'm ready to be a sommelier now (ha, ha). All kidding aside, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it as an addition to your visit in the Hunter Valley. Thank you David.Written 29 August 2017
- Sue T0 contributionsTerry is a master !we dropped in between times of the theatre presentation (11am and 2pm). Lucky for us it was a quiet morning so Terry offered to do the presentation just for the two of us. After watching a 15min video he led us through a wine education - colour, smell and taste. He was outstanding. What was supposed to be about half an hour and 4 wines ended up about one and a half hours and 12 wines tasted. Terry was so knowledgeable and able to understand our thoughts and pointed us in the direction of some great wines. Of course we purchased quite a few !! this was certainly the highlight of our 3day mid-week stay in the Hunter. Terry is to be congratulated on his down to earth approach to wine education and at no point did we feel like he was pushing us to purchase. Another advantage is that you can taste wines here from many different vineyardsWritten 13 July 2017
- Supa-arpha0 contributionsFun and educationalWe did the wine school during our three day stay in Hunter Valley. It was fun and informative and the host David took a good care of us. We got to try different wines in the class. AT the end, we got a certificate of participation. It was one of the good experience we had during our trip!Written 16 April 2017
- ChrisandDaryl0 contributionsFantasticWe participated in the Wine Theatre & Tasting as part of our stay at the resort. Very informative. Worthwhile participating. Tastings afterwards also very informative and most enjoyable with our host David. His knowledge of the wines is impeccable. Would definitely recommend.Written 14 March 2017
- AJBanf0 contributionsWine schoolThe wine school was included in our package so we did it. The host was extremely entertaining - make sure you hear the cow story, and his close encounter with the wine. The tasting part was shorter and with less variety than I expected but it was informative and you were able to continue tasting back out in the cellar door.Written 8 November 2015

- Amymathews900 contributionsGrape stomingWe had our tour with keen2tour on Friday the 3rd of April and as apart of our tour we did grape stomping at the brewery it was so good I would highly recommend it to anyone and Nathan looked after us so well and taught us things we didn't know about wine and he made this experience the highlight of our day. He definitely knows his stuff about wine any questions we had he definitely had an answer to. If anyone is looking for a great experience definitely go do the grape stomping and ask for Nathan thanks again nathan xxxWritten 6 April 2015
- SarElOzzie0 contributionsRotten experienceFull of eastern promise but the wine school was closed for the day. So was the sweet counter and the coffee counter. The man at the wine cellar didn't acknowledge us at all and there was only one couple in the room. And in the brewhouse there were 3 couples and the waitress was on the phone. And this was in a quiet time!!!Written 20 January 2015
- lucy m0 contributionsExcellent - friendly, fun and informativeI came to the HV Wine Theatre with my Mum and younger sister (who "doesn't like any wine" - turns out she does!). We were ably assisted by Bill, who taught us the importance of appreciating wine when drinking it, rather than chucking it back. He also gave us numerous helpful pointers on what to look for and elicited various suggested flavours from my Mum who entered in the spirirt gamely having had a few glasses. A great introduction to wine and an excellent start (and finish, I could stay on the premises all day - we walked over the road to have a coffee and enjoy the views after). This is the second time I have done the wine school (ex-pat with family visiting), and it was every bit as good as I remembered. The Stormy Ridge shiraz was amazing and has not lasted in my house. All gone so we may have to go back soon!!Written 17 January 2014
- Jen H0 contributions...And You Think You Knew About WineTerry was a wonderful instructor. I have taken wine tasting classes and tours prior in Italy, Washington state and California, but he was able to give bring all the information together and make it practical for those who appreciate wine. He answered all questions and even clarified why red wines are typically consumed with red meats and chocolates. Thank you for such a wonderful lesson.Written 16 June 2013

This was far superior to any other wine tasting we participated in during our 4 day stay in the Hunter Valley. Eloise was enthusiastic and really captured the attention of each person in the group.
