Declan was very welcoming and his winery is famous for its unwooded Chardonnay (actually a top tip from another winery). We enjoyed all the wines, though the Chablis style Chardonnay was our favorite. Wine and cheese are a fab combination and this winery didn’t disappoint. Declan was so friendly and answered all of our questions and we both learnt so much. The wine and cheese was delicious- the wine was some of the best we have ever tasted, we wished we lived closer to be able to take more home! Our group had a fabulous experience at McCaffrey's Estate. Chris had our usually 'chatty' group enthralled from the moment he started the tasting. Whatever you pay him, he's worth double as we were sorry we had to leave. The wines were fabulous too.

My new wife Pamela and I have had the privilege of attending vineyards in New Zealand, America, France and now Australia in the last year. We by chance happened to choose this fine establishment because of the lovely Irish name adorning the door. We were not disappointed. The cellar door is quaint and well appointed with rich furnishings. Declan, the proprietor/wine maker happened to be working in the cellar door and treated us to an immersive experience. To top it off the wines were top class, particularly the whites. Hands down the best we have had in Australia to date. Anyone in the Hunter Valley, please pop in if you get the opportunity. It is a wonderful place to behold.

Wow! A brilliant experience with Declan and his beautiful vineyard. Our first wine stop in Hunter Valley and we were not disappointed. From Declan’s brilliant knowledge of the wine and area to his personal approach and stories we loved our time during this tasting!! We couldn’t have asked for more and of course the wine itself was 10/10. I was lucky to leave with the beautiful red wine ‘the Whistler’. A must do experience if you are in the area. Thank you again to Declan for making this experience so memorable!!!!

This is one little place that is truly worth visiting.
We entered and where shown true hospitality by the lovely young lady, very informative and easy to relate to. All credit to her. It was all easy on the eye and palate..
The Cellar Door oozed a feeling of luxurious professionalism and knowledge.. it was most impressive.
The wines where terrific and we walked away with our share. Well worth the visit.

Had the pleasure of spending not one hour but 2 hours at McCaffrey Estate, tasted some beautiful wines, with some complimentary cheeses. Thoroughly enjoyed the stories told by Chris our host, lots of laughs and a little bit of learning as well. Thanks Chris we enjoyed out time in your company and I’m sure we will return. We all purchased some quality wine. I particularly enjoyed the ‘Whistler’ Shiraz and the story that goes with the wine. Cheers Chris, Declan and Danielle.

We were recommended Mcafferys by the people we hired our bikes from and were not disappointed. We just dropped in and had an amazing experience learning about and tasting wines . Small and perfectly formed. Helene was very knowledgeable and looked attentively after us and shared the story of the vineyard. If you are in the Hunter Valkey stop by !

Took part in the wine tasting on our first day in Hunter Valley. Had booked into one of the cottages too, so was great to have our first tipple so close to home after the drive up. Tasting room was very cute, we tried a variety of wines and (despite having multiple favourites amongst the group!), top of the list for me was the Verdelho. Loved the afternoon tasting and it was great meeting and chatting to Danielle later on too - super chilled Cellar Door experience and an amazing place to stay. Will be back!

The quaint location, the fun and friendly McCaffreys made this an experience worth coming back for time and again.
They also collaborate with nearby farms to serve and sell a heavenly spread of olives and cheeses. We bought quite a bit to take back home with us (& we’ll be back for more)!
