Interesting tour and info on cheese making. Thank you to our host person....such a funny man. Loved the samples. There is also a nice cafe in the foyer. Well done to the family who continue to manufacture superior cheeses.

As cheeseaholics we had to visit of course. Enjoyed a reasonably priced cheese tasting platter. Didn’t do the tour. We like the Whitestone cheeses anyway so no issue with the product. As a business/cafe however they could do so much better. A menu offering cheese dishes eg soups, soufflés etc, platters would be good. A larger outdoor seating area but maybe not possible in current location. If you think what Barkers have done in Geraldine or Puhoi cheese up north, Whitestone could be far more tourist centric and bring in a lot more money.

Learnt so much on this tour. Guide Jim was entertaining, knew the history of cheese making and passionate about cheeses. Learnt so much, saw the labour intensive process of mixing, cutting, pressing and ageing. Who knew that Whitestone has its own local mould for blue cheese. And topped with great tasting and gift bag. Highly recommended.

We had a great time learning about the cheese making process. Unfortunately there wasn’t any cheese actually being made. They were cleaning up most stations. But we saw the cutting and paste wrapping which was fascinating. The guide was great and the tasting was delicious. Well worth the money.

Great tour, giving us a behind the scenes look at cheese making, and new insights and an appreciation not just of Whitestone, but also the wider cheese industry. Finished with a great cheese tasting. If that doesn't leave you cheesed out, the cafe's cheese rolls are outstanding!

Interesting look at one of my favourite cheese producers. Good range of cheese samples at end with a little gift bag. Only increases my desire to keep eating cheese!

Note there are stairs to get to viewing platforms.

This was the best activity oamaru by far. Cheery tour guides made us feel welcome, and the work in the factory was interesting. We were very lucky to see so much going on, and it was very well explained by our guide.
The cheese tasting platter was top notch stuff, we heartily recommend the Aged Airdale. We were given a goody bag filled with the cheese the guide thought we would enjoy the best based on our feedback, which was a very appreciated touch.
The storefront was amazing, and the scones and cheese rolls in the cafe were spectacular as well. The coffee was lovely to wonderful down after the tour.
All in all I would highly recommend doing this tour, and the wine tasting tour also sounds fab, but we didnt have enough time to do it unfortunately.

Interesting tour about the factory, informative guide. Great little selection of cheeses to try at the end. Would have been preferable if the cheese tasting was done in the cafe, rather than a separate room. As there was only us on the tour, you felt slightly rushed to eat and leave, rather than tasting at your own pace.

A group of friends visited this business recently for a tour of the cheese making process. We were well impressed.
Belen, our guide was knowledgeable and personable and made our visit most enjoyable as we toured the factory and getting insights into this artisan business. The limestone farmlands and skilled cheese makers have created a gem in North Otago. Their range of cheeses is impressive and our tasting of the various cheeses was a highlight.
We also had the best cheese rolls from their cafe. Some delicious foodie treats on sale as well so perfect for a girls day out.
One thing to be aware of is the flight of stairs to get into the factory. A challenge if you have mobility issues.
Highly recommended.

The tour lasted about an hour and we got a brief intro on how cheesemaking works then got to go through the factory and see the cheese in the making! Really informative tour and great tour guide! At the end of the tour we got to try 6 different cheeses that were delicious! We even got a goodie bag to take home with us! Would recommend to anyone in Oamaru!
