Boat on fleek
Crew caring and fun
Adventure spot on

After carefully reading all the reviews on Trip advisor we decided to get on this tour with Cruise Whitsundays.

We had the best time of our lives, explored one of the most beautiful parts of the reef, went on a heli tour and did Scuba diving. All within a 9 hour window. Shout out to the two instructors (sorry I can't recall all names). Made us feel safe and calm underwater.

Morning and afternoon tea and lunch was provided. It was good quality and enough for everyone. You won't go starving.

We were very happy with the crew, their attention to safety and their knowledge. All smiley faces and nothing to complain about.

The semi submersible tour was also a bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed the presentation we received.

Other than paying a little bit too much for the heli flight for a 10 min ride, I would still recommend as this is the only true way to experience this wonder on planet earth. If the day is glorious like the one we experienced and you decide on the day to get on this make sure you add your name on the list first thing when you boar as they are operating limited flights on the day.

Thank you for making this a memorable life experience!

Great fun. Highly recommend!

Visited reef world spontaneously and we had a really good day. The staff on the boat were really nice and answered questions with no problems. My partner and I are certified divers and were thinking of doing a dive but the best visibility was at snorkelling depth anyway so we decided to save money. The snorkelling area gets really crowded and we ended up getting kicked by people who were careless which was annoying but we saw some great marine life. It’s best to keep an eye on the water and jump in when there isn’t too many people in the snorkelling section. The buffet lunch was great with plenty of options available so overall we enjoyed our day out here. Would recommend to people who are keen for a day of snorkelling and interested in learning about the reef.

Had a great time! After reading some negative reviews here on the way out I was coming to terms with the fact I'd be a bit disappointed but was pleasantly surprised in the end! The free snorkelling area was at least 200m in length with floating rest stations along the way. You can swim all the way along the drop off. Theres a lifeguard and a staff member in a tinny to make sure no one stands on the reef and for safety obviously. As expected everyone was keen to jump in at the start but for the rest of the day there was never an issue of being too crowded at all. We did extra snorkel tour where you get taken out to swim back to the pontoon with a guide giving some information on the reef and fish etc. It was awesome to swim out in the middle of the ocean seeing the reef full of life!
Its a 2 hour trip each way with no reception most of the time so a book or game would've been a good idea to pass the time, otherwise looking out the windows to the beautiful scenery was lovely.
Morning and afternoon tea was just a few pieces of fresh fruit bring snacks if you're hungry but lunch was great lots of cold meats, salads, prawns, and sides, more than enough!
The staff were lovely and helpful happy to answer any questions or concerns, and to support you on any anxious feelings or nerves about diving or snorkelling.

If you get any kind of motion sickness at all this trip is probably not worth it. Even if you don't really consider other snorkelling options.

Firstly if you leave from Airlie Beach you first must go to Hamilton Island to drop off and pick up others. That's 50 minutes out of the way.

You then will experience seriously rough waves for a good hour on the way to reef. I don't normally get seasick at all. Somehow I wanted to throw up almost the whole way. I do not exaggerate in saying about about one third of the passengers were either throwing up in the (luckily provided) spew bags or at least dry heaving into them. There was overflow all round and the smell of spew was ingrained in the carpet.

I asked if this was a particularly rough day. Nope, normal conditions apparently! I can't imagine bad weather.

When you finally arrive at reef world you shouldn't waste your time in snorkelling straight away. They even tell you the snorkelling conditions don't get good until the afternoon. That leaves you with either looking a fish through a small underwater window for hours or climbing aboard another boat to again look at fish through a glass bottom. On our tour the boat had broken aircon and we saw no fish through the glass bottom.

Eventually we got to snorkel and it is good although I've definitely done better. Probably about 2 hours of quality snorkelling for about 4 and a half hours of miserable travel and another couple of hours of not doing much.

If you feel you must snorkel the great barrier reef and don't mind spending a day travelling on rough waves then maybe consider it. Just take your own photos, their photos they take of you throughout the day cost 20 bucks a pop...

During mid-late March the Whitsundays endured a string of days where winds were in excess of 20 knots, whilst some of our team may not gauge these conditions as 'rough' each person responds to conditions differently especially once out from the protection of the island. Our check in team recommend guests take travel calm in these conditions and this is also reiterated on the vessel. Our Reef Crew will always advise on when the best time to snorkel the reef is dependent on tides, swells and currents. On some days it may be great snorkelling throughout the whole trip, on others later in the tour time. As per our confirmation email we do strongly suggest checking conditions 48 hours in advance.

We were really looking forward to this experience but found value for money just wasn’t there. The tour involved a great amount of the day travelling to and from the reef with only minimal time for swimming and snorkelling. Apart from this and the submarine & underwater observatory there was nothing else to do unless you paid extra on top of your already expensive tour for diving, a helicopter ride or guided snorkelling.
The tour boat had hundreds of people on it so the tour guides did not even bother trying to get to know anyone personally. The tour guides also provided little information about the reef itself. I feel like I came back from the experience knowing nothing more than what I already knew.
The food for lunch was delicious as was the morning and afternoon tea but no drinks like water and soft drink were included. This was the most expensive of all tours we did in the Whitsundays and believe drinks should have been included with the price we paid.
For those wanting to see the reef consider booking a smaller company which perhaps charges less!

I am sorry that you felt that this tour was overpriced and overrated. The tour is advertised exactly as you described, scenic cruising through the Whitsundays with up to 4 hour at the pontoon. Whilst at the pontoon you can do unlimited snorkelling, use the semi submersible and visit the underwater viewing chamber. All meals are included and water, tea & coffee are available complimentary. Our representatives are all available should you have any requests or like any extra information, however as you stated there is a lot of guest travelling with us unfortunately making it unachievable to sit down with each party individually.

The only part of this trip worth the money is the Guided snorkelling for which you have to fork out extra cash. Unless you can’t swim or have very young children this was a waste of a day and money. From Daydream Island, you need to be ready to go at 7:30am and we didn’t even get out to the reef until after 11am. The permitted snorkelling area was packed even with reduced COVID numbers. ReefWorld is a dump. Although the Guided Snorkelling was much improved, it started 25 minutes late so we got the scraps for lunch. Find a smaller operator.

I am sincerely sorry to read that you did not enjoy your Great Barrier Reef. Reefworld is a recently rebuilt multi-million dollar facility that was opened in December 2019. The pontoon is stationed 39 nautical miles from the mainland, taking approximately 2 hours from Hamilton Island to reach, unfortunately our large vessel Seaflight cannot dock at Daydream Island requiring an earlier transfer vessel to Hamilton Island. The listed inclusions for this tour are unlimited snorkelling with all equipment supplied, use of the semi-submersible submarine and underwater observatory and all meals. I am sorry that you did not feel the lunch was ample enough and I am sure if this was addressed with the Cruise Director on duty, she would have been more than happy to provide you with more options. This tour regularly receives accolades from a variety of guests. Once again I can only apologise that the tour was not to your liking.

We were on a semi sub and it hit the coral and broke parts of it. I understand everything about understaffing, post covid tourism, new staff etc. But damaging the reef is absolutely shocking! There wasn’t any accountability, no apologies to the people onboard or even a ‘sorry this never happens, and we will retrain staff’. The lady in blue shirt ran upstairs the first time halfway through her commentary then returned a few minutes later and started her commentary back again like nothing happened. Everyone saw parts of corals breaking off. Please retrain your staff not to go too close.

Start by correctly informing passengers that the start time is not 7.30 but 8 a.m. The food was poor; a very light morning tea followed by buffet lunch which comprised only mains and no deserts. Afternoon tea was biscuits and cheese and/or a few fruit slices and grapes.

The real disasters occurred after picking up a group of rowdy and drunk people At Hamilton island on the return trip which everyone else had to endure for a whole hour. Finally on arrival back at Airlie bedlam erupted since few taxis were available and staff refused to request taxis on customers’ behalf.

No commentary on board the submersible. Tides were very strong making snorkelling difficult if not dangerous.

The quality of the reef here cannot justify the cost and effort involved in such a protracted journey.

Never again.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your recent Great Barrier Reef Tour. Our confirmation emails advise guests to check in at 7:30am for an 8:00am departure. We ask guest to arrive at 7:30am as this is the around the time boarding process commences. I have escalated your disappointment regarding dessert not being included in our buffet offerings to our Executive Chef, however I must be honest this is not something we get many requests for. I apologise that the unruly guests were not dealt with in the appropriate manner and this has been escalated to our Operations team. I have also escalated to the Operations Team your feedback regarding no commentary on the semi-submersible. Unfortunately the local taxi company will not accept taxi orders to taxi ranks. The taxi team are very aware of our peak arrivals and on most occasion there is a quick turn around.

The weather was really bad with no good conditions for snorkelling. It takes around 3 hours to get to the great reef so we spent 6h inside the cruise to don't see anything. It was a wastage of money and time. The company should notify tourists about the weather before they be on board.

Sorry to read that the weather was less than ideal for your recent visit to the Great Barrier Reef. As part of our confirmation emails we do advise that guest check the weather conditions prior to their travel date and our cancellation policy is extremely flexible up to 48 hours prior to departure. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to contact all guests prior to departure to advise of weather conditions.

We went to Reef World to see Hardy Reef in September 2020 and we had a wonderful time and from my observations, this view was shared by others on our day trip. We did snorkeling, a scuba dive and the submarine tour. We started with the submarine tour and it was my husbands first experience seeing the Great Barrier Reef and it was amazing! The colours of the marine life and the corals were so vibrant, everyone got a chance to see everything on show and the host was very informative and educational. Then we did some snorkeling which was super fun and I felt safe and we also got a photo with a Maori Wrass from the photographer. The high light was out scuba dive, the dive team were really friendly and fun and made the diving experience so wonderful, they tickled giant clams for me, showed us where the big gropers like to hang out which you can’t see whilst scuba diving. It really was the most fund and memorable days of my life!

The Great Barrier Reef is a must do in Australia and a day out at Reef World is an excellent and safe way to experience it! I really appreciated the diversity of activities on board and would recommend this for people who just want to experience the reef without getting in the water up to those looking for a scuba dive adventure!
