- O8661BDtamarap0 contributionsA Delicious ExperienceWe had a good experience at Kate's Kitchen. Kate was kind and patient, and we appreciated her approach. We will definitely recommend the class to others looking for a fun and educational experience. Our favorite was the bread! She encouraged us to try and bake the spelt bread, which she explained makes diggestion easier, and it was so delicious!Written 9 December 2024

- Twila G0 contributionsCooking, laughing, and eating!Kate made the cooking experience a lot of fun! She has a good sense of humor and all of us laughed a lot. We learned how to cut the lamb pieces, which way to slice carrots, and the proper way to use a potato peeler. Kate provided aprons and we used a cooking weight scale so that our measurements for the scones and bread were precise. After everything was cooked we sat in Kate’s back sunroom and enjoyed the beautiful view of her garden while we ate. It was nice to meet people from other places and converse. What a wonderful to spend an afternoon in a local Irish home to cook, laugh, and eat!Written 14 September 2024

- andrea m0 contributionsAmazing cooking class. Don’t missWow! Kate is an amazing host —and the cooking class was 3 hours and a blast. We even gathered herbs from her garden to make the lamb stew. We did 3 variations of brown bread. And the pear scones were delicious and moist-dry and delicious with Irish butter. No clotted crème in Ireland. These are not Starbucks scones. Just mouthwatering. Kate is a hoot and one of our favorite things we did in Ireland!Written 29 July 2023
- 1Jess990 contributionsDelicious Stew with an Amazing HostKate’s cooking experience was an amazing opportunity for our family. You must book with her if you are near the Galway area! The food, conversation, and laughter was memorable for our family and we appreciate the personal connection that Kate made with each of us. Her food is spectacular and Kate is truly a wonderful person. Thank you for these unforgettable moments on our journey!Written 25 May 2023
- sdence19870 contributionsTry the stew it’s delicious!Kate and Valentina were wonderful and welcoming hosts as well as their pup CoCo. They helped us make the advertised soup and bread and allowed us to join in with the next group doing scones. They allowed us to sit in Kate’s beautiful garden and eat up the stew, bread, and scones we made. Great day! My grandmother was ecstatically happy. Thanks Kate and Valentina.Written 20 May 2023
- angelad5870 contributionsLovely time! What a lovely time with Kate and Valentina. We had a lovely time from beginning to end: it was great to pick herbs from the garden to toss into the stew. It would have been fun if the timing had worked out where we could try our own stew, but we were running a bit late so that was our fault. We got to make 3 kinds of bread, which well made up for it: spelt bread, brown bread, and blueberry scones. Highly recommend the experience!Written 21 April 2023
- Soosie80 contributionsWhat a Fun Cooking Class!Kate is the best!! She really makes it fun to learn how to make Brown Bread and Stew. We also opted for making some scones as well. What a feast and now with recipes in hand, we can recapture all the things we made and remember the fun we had.Written 17 December 2022

- E4957EZmrm0 contributionsBetter stew than what most restaurants makeKate was great at making me relax and not rush through the prep process. She recommended some kitchen gadgets to buy as well, to take guessing out of the cooking and make it simpler for novices. It was an overall pleasant experience, not to mention the stew was incredibly delicious, yum!!!Written 31 July 2020

Three generations of my family all loved Kate’s baking class! The minute you are welcomed into her lovely home you feel like you are visiting a long lost friend. Kate is a wonderful teacher and before long you are eating the best scones you have ever tasted in her garden with a pot of tea. Our brown bread was packed up for us to take home. After traveling back to the US, I opened the package and the brown bread was still delicious. Thank you, Kate. When next in Ireland, I will come back for another class.

Our time with Kate was quite wonderful! She picked me and my friends up at the bus station and was immediately very welcoming and funny. We each got to bake our own scones and bread, making the end results our own personal reward! Afterward, we even got to sit around a table drinking tea and eating the berry scones we each had the honor to make. It was great, I recommend it! I highly recommend anyone, especially young people, purchase this affordable cooking class. It's a great experience, is very well executed, has great hospitality, and immerses students in Irish cuisine.

Had a day to myself in the Galway area while waiting for friends to arrive, and booked this experience with Kate. She welcomed us into her home, taught us her recipes, and then we enjoyed our delicious baked goods over coffee and tea around her table.
The other guest had a gluten allergy and Kate very thoughtfully reworked both the scone and bread recipes so that she could bake more for herself at home. Kate's vast experience owning her own cafes and meeting the needs of all baked-good lovers is so evident. Highly, highly recommend. Thank you, Kate!

Kate’s cooking class was absolutely perfect! My husband and I did the scones and brown bread class with my 70+ year old parents while visiting Galway. We thought it would be a nice change of pace from the hectic day tours and the non-stop sight seeing. It ended up being exactly what we needed. Kate’s home is warm and welcoming and her gardens are beautiful and relaxing. We spent time learning how to make a variety of scones as well as traditional brown bread. The best part was getting to enjoy all of these traditional Irish baked goods fresh out of the oven with a cup of tea and amazing conversation. I highly recommend Kate’s classes if you want to get off the beaten path and experience a piece of authentic Irish life.

My daughter and I very much enjoyed the experience of learning to make scones and bread with Kate at her home in April. Let me tell you, the scones we made there were the best that we found throughout our visit to Ireland. Another thing that was really fun was making friends with the other family that was there- a mom and her two grown children from Switzerland. It was just good fun and a wonderful memory. :)
Kate, if you read this, we didn't get the recipes. I'm not sure how to contact you to get them but I would LOVE to have the scone recipe! Please reach out to me if you read this review!

My friend and I booked a scone and soda bread class with Kate, and it was great! Her home is lovely with a nice garden and friendly mellow dog. We ended up being joined by three other travelers as well.
Preparing and baking scones and bread was easy and fun, and Kate gave us good directions and tips on how to know we’re on the right track at each step. Once the scones were done we all got to sit and enjoy them with some coffee and chat.
I would definitely do again, and recommend to friends looking for a nice laid back experience with a local pro that also gets you tasty souvenirs :)

Booked this experience as a "different" thing to do when my daughter and I visited Ireland (castles are great, but you can only see so many!) and it was amazing! Kate was a welcoming and gracious host with endless energy, and invited us into her home as if we were old friends. She was incredibly knowledgeable and excited to teach us about making scones and bread and then even set up a little table for us in her beautiful back garden to have tea and try our treats. We got to take home the recipes and even some of Kate's homemade jam with the scones and bread which were better than any we had tried! Would highly recommend to anyone traveling near the Galway city area. Thanks so much to Kate and Valentina, and the pets, Coco and Millie! :)

I would contact Kate directly and check her availability during your visit. Message her on FaceBook (Galway Cookery Classes) or call her at 00353 86 606 6494. (I tried to link her email address in this answer, but TripAdvisor wouldn't let me.) Good luck. Enjoy!! :)

Dear Kate - I am in Galway and would love to join your morning class this Friday, March 11 - if there is availability for one. I do not have a car. I could take the bus. I will need a little assistance/guidance on which bus to take (still learning about the bus) to and from your lovely home. Many thanks Kate!

Hello, I am very interested in this opportunity! My family will be travelling from Canada for my Mom’s 60th Birthday. Her Dad is from Ireland and she has never been before, so this is a very special trip for all of us. There will be 6 of us total (my parents and 4 of us in our 20s). I was wondering if there is any way you could make an exception as to the max number of travellers that can participate? I completely understand if you cannot, but just thought I would ask as this sounds like too good a chance to pass up!
Thanks very much,
Kate

Hi we are staying in Galway for a few days next week I wonder if you could just give me a few more details about the cookery class. My friend and I would like to come on Tuesday morning. What time would we need to be at the shop for? When would we return? It’s just that our husbands would drop us off and I would need to find something to occupy them!
Kind regards
Maureen

Hello, the class is advertised as 2 hours. However, my 3pm class was finished easily by a little after 4pm.
I think this was because I was the only attendee and therefore Kate only had me to pay attention to.
The actual prep and cooking time isn't long.
So max 2 hours is how long the men need to occupy themselves.
I caught the 404 bus out to Oranmore and we did the class in Kate's cafe.
I think the experience will be better at her home, which is where the classes are usually held.
Cheers Trish
