- 1Enjoy an unforgettable night in the dunes of Merzouga! You will be picked up in your accommodation in Merzouga and the villages around in the late afternoon and we will bring you with a private transfer to the meeting point of the camels. Get on your friendly camel and walk through the dunes at a desert pace. The camel ride takes around 1 h and it is possible to make a stop at a big dune to take pictures and marvel at the sunset (depending on the season). After arrival at your luxury desert camp, you'll be greeted with an original Berber mint tea. Welcome to enjoy and relax! Enjoy your evening dining in a berber tent, look for shooting stars at the camp fire and sleep in a luxury nomad tent with bathroom! The next morning, wake up by the first strays of light to watch the sunrise over the Sahara before you enjoy your typical breakfast in the camp. We've visited different parts of the desert, gorgeous sand dunes, places with fossils and excavation of minerals, the Beduins nomad camp where we ate delicious local food and drank tea. We've also seen how the gardens are grown in the desert, which is quite amazing. African music and food at the local restaurant were also great. Our guide Said was very welcoming and knowledgible. We had a wonderful time with Mohammed and his friends on the outskirts of the Sahara desert! From the warm greeting given to us at the hotel to the 5 star accommodations at the luxurious tent camp our entire experience couldn’t have been better!
I go every year on a road trip with my two boys (now 16 & 18) and this year we chose to drive around Morocco. We had read about Erg Chebbi being at the edge of the Sahara and wanted to experience a desert night under the stars. We took a 75 minute camel ride from the edge of the desert outcropping to the tent camp; we must have traversed 25 or 30 sand dunes to get there. After dinner our guests regaled us with a traditional Moroccan drum and dance skit; both my boys took turns joining in on the drum set!
In the morning we had a solid breakfast before sand boarding for an hour and then heading off to our next city destination (Midelt). If we ever came back again we wouldn’t change a thing!
