Meet your guide in Tizgui for a 9am departure into the Todra Gorge, whose ochre cliffs soar over 500 feet (152 meters) from the canyon floor. Learn about daily life and culture in the canyons that carve through the High Atlas Mountains, a region that’s been a Berber stronghold for generations.
Cross the Todra Gorge itself, then follow a narrow path to the rim of the canyon, a 3-hour walk through a rugged landscape of stone and sand. After 2 hours on the trail, pause for a cup of tea with a nomad family—this is the perfect time to interact with locals and experience traditional Moroccan hospitality firsthand.
Walk for another hour, then break for a picnic with perfect views. Enjoy the sunshine that warms the gorge in the afternoon on the return hike to Tizgui, where you’ll visit a local family home for afternoon tea. In 5 hours of total walking time, you’ll gain about 2,000 feet (610 meters) of elevation, and finish the day at around 4pm.
