About
he  Inca Trail is rightly famous for its spectacular Andean scenery, full of snow-capped mountains between June and October, as well as the captivating Inca ruins you could meet along the way. The trail starts at an altitude of about 2,800 masl from Km 82/Piscacucho and traverses the Andes, crossing exciting sites like Dead Woman's Pass which, at 4,200 meters high, is the peak point of the trek. A few other impressive Inca sites are waiting for you such as Wiñayhuayna or "Forever Young" before descending towards the always fascinating Machu Picchu (2,450 m).

Dont pay anything in advance
May 2020
We reserve a trip with them for may, paying half of the trip, including the access to the national park. Once started the pandemy they stopped any kind of communication with us, so we needed to ask our credit card company to make a charge back. Initially they even lied to the bank telling they had provided the service. Even afterwards we notice that they got back our reservation money (for the maccu piccu entrance) from the goverment.
DONT PAY ANY MONEY BEFORE THE TRIP. It will be very hard for you to recover it if anything happens.

My tour guide was excellent, he made sure that we had a great experience! See his photo below and ask to do the tour with him!
I did a one-day Inca trail trekking with this company and everything went smoothly.
We had a group of 5 people and our tour guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

The hotel that was booked as part of the tour was not good, actually it was very bad, so I recommend if you book a 2 /3 day tour ask for a an upgrade to a better hotel, prices are cheap, so extra 10/20 dollars will give you a better hotel with clean sheets, mine were dirty!

Inka Trail 2days
Thanks to Flora from the agency, well done organised, everything like promise, excellent tour guide Alex. The 2 day tour is great to get bigger view about Inkas and the path they was making, it is preparation for longer tour in the future. I think also the best time to visit is November, just if starts raining its not so bed if you take poncho with you, and please not to much worm clothes ( its only one day hike and each gram of weight its to much ), sun hat and sun scrim its moste important. Five Day Inca Trail
Faced with a bewildering number of options and the need to book well in advance, I chose ITEP based on their online service, presuming that there wasn’t much between different operators. Flor in the office was very attentive to emails and helpful at explaining the different options and the price seemed reasonable.

The trek itself was fantastic. We were a small group of five and our guide, Elio, was great. He showed us interesting things throughout without being over-bearing. I particularly enjoyed his tour of Machu Picchu. The equipment (tents etc.) were good quality and the food far exceeded my expectations, thanks to Cirilo, and the rest of the team were friendly.

For the five day trip, I spent the night in Aguascalientes (fairly basic hotel, but you can request somewhere more luxurious) and returned to Machu Picchu the next morning for Huayna Picchu and the Templo de la Luna. I hadn’t realised that this was not guided, but the route was clear (although to do both the summit and the cave involved a bit of a detour because of the one-way system) and it took far less time than the Machu Picchu authorities advertise.

The train back was the standard Peru Rail tourist train - very comfortable, but if you wanted one of the more expensive trains, it would be worth asking ITEP in advance.

Compared with other groups we saw, I am pleased I chose ITEP based on the size of the group (which may have been partly luck), the food and the guide.

Low quality 4-day Inka Trail hike
Aug 2019 • Friends
You get what you pay for. I’d recommend to spend a bit more money elsewhere to get quality service. First, our guide was not good at speaking and understanding English. Second, he was so unprofessional that he was already checked out after the second day of the hike, leaving us hike on our own (we were only 3 people) and catching up later. He also didn’t prioritize what we wanted to do, forcing us only on the popular photo spots and his scripted historical contents. Lastly, the bus driver ditched us at the train station after the hike ended, and we had to grab a taxi. No apology or no refund. In short, find another tour company for the 4-day hike because you will have to endure such low quality experience for several days once you commit to the tour.

Amazing guide
Jun 2019 • Couples
We just returned from hiking the "classic" Inca Trail - 4 days, 3 nights. We had Primo as our guide and he was amazing. We're both university profs - my husband is in history - (so, by definition, we're a bit nerdy - LOL) but we were blown away by Primo's knowledge of Inca and pre-Inca history and archeology and the flora and fauna in the region. PLUS, he is a really nice person to hang out with for 4 days. He works for a number of companies but, if you can possibly arrange it, I recommend him very highly. We really got lucky! Everything else about ITEP was outstanding.

Outstanding team, which constantly adapted to our group's needs
Apr 2019 • Friends
We had 12 people of varying physical abilities and dietary concerns in our group, but all of us were excited to embark on the four-day, three-night Inca Trail (to Machu Picchu) adventure. ITEP was very accommodating and constantly seemed to adapt to our group's needs. One of our hikers aggravated an injury and, unfortunately, was not able to continue beyond the morning of day two. Our adept guides, Santiago and Luis, developed a creative solution to get her to a place of safety while ensuring the remainder of the group could be successful. Luis stayed with her until we were all able to reconnect a few days later at Machu Picchu, which gave us the confidence that she would be in capable hands while we continued our trek. Santiago continually checked in with the rest of us, assessing our speed on the trail, planning meal stops and ensuring he was there to support me during some incredibly challenging parts of the hike. Not only was I grateful for his Inca Trail expertise, but Santiago literally helped me navigate through some portions of the trail that I might not have been able to successfully complete on my own. Sebastian was our head chef and our group was in awe of what he and his crew was able to create without a "real" kitchen. Our group enjoyed the cuisine and appreciated that Sebastian was able to accommodate our dietary needs (e.g., one vegetarian, one person could not eat eggs, etc.). Know that this trek is something that requires training, ability to overcome challenging conditions (e.g., weather, awful bathrooms and few showers, etc.) and perseverance. However, ITEP's team - especially Santiago and Luis - did everything in their power to ensure we were fed with history and we were supported throughout the experience. I'm very grateful!
