Overview
Catch a glimpse of life behind the Iron Curtain with this 2.5-hour tour of Krakow’s communist history. Join your guide in an authentic Trabant car as you explore Nowa Huta, the Socialist Realist suburb designed by the Soviet Union. You’ll learn about this fascinating feat of city planning, where each detail held ideological significance. An optional upgrade provides access to a private museum and a restaurant from the communist-era.
What to Expect

Your 2.5-hour tour begins with convenient pick-up from your hotel in Krakow. You’ll commence your tour in an authentic Trabant vehicle, the iconic car of East Germany.

Travel to Nowa Huta, one of the world’s two fully-planned Socialist Realist cities, known as Stalin’s gift to Krakow. Track history through the architecture here, much of it driven by symbolism and ideology. Thanks in part to a campaign to build a Catholic church in the city, Nowa Huta later became a site of Poland’s resistance movement.

If you wish, you may upgrade to a 4-hour visit which includes a guided tour of a private museum and a memorable trip to a communist-era restaurant. Visit a communist-style apartment, sample pickled cucumbers, and try your hand at driving the Trabant for a truly transporting experience.

Shake, Rattle 'n' Roll

A fascintating glimpse into what was to be a Communist Utopia on the outskirts of Krakow. Kornelia really brought it to life after picking us up at our apartment in an old blue Trabant, which drew some attention as it rattled noisily along the streets...More

A lot of different stops for sightseeing and/or a drink. 90% of the transport is by car. Good fun 😀
