About
Many of Krakow's most famous communist artefacts are alive and well. Hop in your Trabant with your guide and travel back in time as you cruise through the city in a car manufactured by the Eastern Bloc. Head to the Nowa Huta district, famously known as the city's communist enclave. Learn the history behind the neighbourhood that was Stalin's 'gift' to Krakow. Hop out to wander the labyrinth of tenements, designed to be a model communist city. Hear the stories of life behind the Iron Curtain as you explore the epicentre of Poland's resistance movement. This revolution led to the eventual overthrow of the communist government. The 'Communism Tour' was featured in BBC's 'Palin's New Europe' series and covered by many international TVs and newspapers. To upgrade your tour, select the 4,5-hour Deluxe option. It includes a visit to the original Cold War bunker at the former Lenin Steelworks and a lunch in an old-school 'Milk Bar' canteen.

Excellent way to spend 2.5 hours
We saw this tour recently on an episode of a British travel programme, and thought we'd quite like to do it for ourselves.

Contacted Crazy Guides at pretty short notice as we weren't sure which day we would have free. "Crazy Mike" responded quickly and they very kindly fitted us in for later that day.

Our guide, Kornelia, was a little late picking us up owing to the unreliable nature of the old Trabants. But she kept us informed, which we really appreciated.

The little car was great, and managed to stay running for the duration of the tour. Kornelia was fantastic; so friendly, interesting, extremely knowledgeable, and her English was exceptional. She obviously loves her job, and she described it as like going out for a drive with friends.

We're so glad we were able to book this tour, it was the highlight of our Kraków trip.

Fun Cars, Fascinating History
Aug 2021
We loved the Communism Tour! The Trabant was ok but the Polski "baby" Fiat even better for that pre-1989 feel. Nowa Huta was not what I expected from a planned communist city, it was actually really nice. Our guides were VERY knowledgeable of Polish history and fun to talk to. Highly recommended!

OK tour, but other major were much better
Jun 2021 • Friends
The car was fun and it got a lot of stares as we drove around, but it should not have been the focus of the tour. While I did see a bit of how communists lived outside of Krakow, far too much of the information presented was about engine sizes and fuel gauges and Fiats made here and there and Skodas and Russian engines vs. Polish engines… We did 4 excursion tours and 2 walking tours while in Krakow and this was my 6th favorite activity. Still gave it 3 stars, because it was interesting to see a bit of a planned community and it was fun, just didn’t expect it to be so focused on the car itself.

Also, we paid extra for the deluxe option and the bunker was the highlight of the tour, but I wouldn’t recommend the deluxe. The meal costs virtually nothing, so you’re better off taking a cab to a milkbar of your own and we were not offered the Polish vodka, even though we paid for it.

Thx for the review :) Vintage cars are an important part of the tour, some people book it just because of the cars. As you had a chance to be driven in 2 different cars on the tour, maybe you just got more info about cars than usual. Nowa Huta district is a post industrial area, rarely visited by tourists, that is why we organize tours there, as we show alternative sights in Krakow. In our opinion this history is fascinating, but it's totally incomparable to regular tours you did in Krakow (Old Town, Auschwitz, Salt Mine). We try to be alternative, a lot of people book our tours from the reason, that we are alternative and we do not guide in popular spots packed with tourists, as we want to show some real vibe of the city. I understand you might not be fascinated with Nowa Huta, but we cannot help for that :) As for the Deluxe option, it's more expensive as it includes entrance to bunkers (museum) and a lunch. Regarding the price of the Deluxe option, please note it's a private tour, with vintage car that is more expensive in maintaining than new ones, and also 50% of the price goes directly to Viator and Polish tax office, so our mark-up is really minimal. All the best Mike Ostrowski - owner

Brilliant overall experience
Having been to Krakow many times I looked for something different to do. My step son has come to live here with his Polish girlfriend and the 4 of us took the Communist tour.
We were met outside our apartment by our 2 guides in a Lada and a Trabant. We kept switching cars to exlerience both.
Our guides were very knowledgable and added their and their families own experiences.
We saw a great deal which included the purpose built town, a shop which had changed very little, a cafe, outside the factory and a typical flat from the soviet era.
This combined with vodka and good laughs made up an ideal afternoon.
Highly recommended.

Highly recommend- Excellent Tour
Jan 2020
We were a group of 10 ladies who were transported in 3 vintage vehicles, stopping at several spots of interest throughout the communist tour, enabling us to swap and enjoy each vehicle.

We were picked up at the agreed location and perfectly on time.

Our drivers were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable and made the tour lighthearted and fun.

Every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend (in fact for me it was the second time I have taken the tour).

Thank you to Crazy Guides and all your team for allowing us to experience apart of Kraków which is not on the "typical" tourist map and learn a little more of what life was like after the war and under the communist regime.

Excellent 👏

My daughter suggested doing this instead of the more routine tourist stuff in Krakow. I’m so glad I did. What a hoot and our guide was very thorough in giving us the whole communist experience while being highly entertaining.

Amazing Tour!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Our guide was amazing, took us round in an awesome old car and was so knowledgeable. The whole place and where we were taken showed us what things were like, and the milk bar was a definite highlight, with the atmosphere feeling like we had just stepped back in time.
