Wicked Trabi Tour!
Nov 2019
What a fantastic experience, sitting in the back of a Trabi being driven around by a guide who clearly loves his job, is so knowledgeable of both past and recent Krakow history mixed with personal insights of what it was like to be brought up in Nowa Huta. Our thanks to our guide Maciek who was a star! We now have photos of the two of us sitting in the front of a Trabi outside the Lenin Steelworks. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

Great experience
Despite rainy weather, we enjoyed a great tour in a yellow Trabant with Maciek. Passionate about history, he taught us so much about communism after WWII and the development of Nowa Huta.
The whole experience was a blast, including the communist apartment. Would highly recommend this tour if you want to know more about the history of Krakow in the 20th century. 5 stars.

Great fun & very informative
Mar 2019 • Friends
The three of us had a fabulous fun-filled few hours in a Trabant with our fantastic guide, Maciek, He was very friendly and well-informed about Krakow, Poland and all its history. He brought great personal insight to the tour and Maciek entertained us with a few stories about his family's history. He was very passionate about the history of his country and was able to answer any question we fired at him on the tour. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Krakow & would do it again when we return. Thank you, Maciek & all at Crazy Guides !

Super Trabant tours
Sep 2018
In September we did two Trabant tours with Crazy Guides in Krakow. We opted for Communism Deluxe and the Real Krakow. We spent a whole day bouncing around in a Trabant and enjoyed every minute. Our guide was Maciek, and we could not have had a better guide. He was warm, friendly, kind , and caring. He was also extremely well-informed about Poland and its history. He was intelligent, engaging, and humourous. He brought great personal insight to the tour helping us to understand the richness and complexity of life in Poland. His many personal anecdotes of his and his family's experiences brought history to life. All in all, it was a wonderful day, and when I go back to Poland, I will most certainly use Crazy Guides again. And, I would be happy to take any tour given by Maciek. Bravo Maciek!

Great fun and great insight
We had a fun time with Klaudia as we jumped into her bright green head turning Trabant from the eighties.
The tour of Nowa Huta gave us a really interesting insight into post war Poland and the rise of communism with all of it's ideals hopes and promises.
We had a wonderful and authentic lunch at Milky Bar which included zurek (sausage and boiled egg soup) with Russian pierogi.
Claudia had fabulous knowledge and her enthusiasm and fun made for a highly recommended tour for anyone visiting Krakow.

A great learning experience - Catholicism and Resistance in a communist ideological town.
Sep 2017 • Family
On our last day in Krakow me an my mum took a tour of Noa Huta in a vintage Trabant. this new town on the edge of Krakow was a social experiment designed to be the perfect Communist town complete with steel works and accommodation to house 40,000. An aspect of this communist place was to be without religion so designed to shake off Polish Catholic roots.
We learned a lot about what was life for people living in Nova Huta and visited places such as a Milk Bar, a flat and the Steele works. The guide and tour was a truly educational experience and enjoyable.
As we had been to see the family home of John Paul II in Wadowice see my earlier review and also places associated with JPII in Krakow we wanted to see how he had become involved in Nova Huta as the Archbishop and also Cardinal. Every year since 1959 he celebrated midnight mass in a field for the workers at a christmas as the place was without a church. He spoke about one day there would be a church built here despite the authorities restrictions on Religious freedom. In 1960 the workers erected a cross to which the authorities wanted to knock it down leading to riots. He was asked to intervene and spoke of peace and the need for no further rioting as the cross woukd not be removed! He then told the Government the only way to maintain peace was to build a church - dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland not only was the church a place of worship. We were able to have some of these conversations with our guide, whilst also cisiting the church and further conversations about the movement Solidarity and the role of Lech Walesa. It was a fascinating, informative and very enjoyable trip.

Guide did not turn up!
Oct 2017 • Couples
I was in Krakow with all of my family to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. I booked a tour more than two months up front and I took the trouble to reconfirm the booking 5 days ahead. We were deeply disappointed to left stranded with no advance warning. These people are unreliable, do not book a tour with them!

Nowa Huta tour
Oct 2017 • Couples
We went on this tour today and we loved it. We're interested in history so wanted to see a different side to the Krakow we'd be seeing in the main square and Jewish quarter etc. Our guide Goshka picked us up from our hotel in a blue trabant (which was more comfortable than I expected for my 6ft3) and took us around the Nowa Huta area. It was fascinating to see an area built up using so many deliberately subliminal patterns, i.e. street names, positions and widths etc. Goshka was very knowledgable on Nowa Huta and the communist era across Eastern Europe overall, and was very friendly and funny too. As she had no other bookings for the day, our tour was extended to include a visit to a fairly typical apartment of the area and era to give us a better idea of how people lived at the time. I loved it,
and we'd like to do this tour again in the future to see what else has changed.

1966 and all that in a Trabant
Sep 2017 • Couples
Pottering around the streets of Krakow and Nowa Huta in a 1966 Trabant with original 2 stroke engine at speeds approaching 50mph/80 kmh as long as going downhill with a following wind, nevertheless great fun. Joanna our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, very chatty, seemed to be enjoying it as much as we did. We were taken to several places that you would never have found yourself, left you wanting to
do some more. Nowa Huta, the Workers Paradise was actually quite pleasant as new towns go, many similarities to English Garden cities if you forget the steel mill.Joanna gave you an impression of what is was like in the communist era though lots of things
have changed recently ,it still gives you an idea of what it was like. Anyway I can thoroughly recommend this trip, best tour I've been on in a long while. Joanna certainly knows her stuff, Trabants up to 1991 and where to get cheap handmade chocs at half the price of the city centre.(that wasn't an official part of the tour!) but much appreciated. Did you know you could get a Trabant in at least 5 colours, only
10-15 yrs waiting list. Real social history, just bear in mind Trabants aren't very big
think original mini!!! But definitely fun!!

'An Amazing Drive Back In Time!'
May 2017 • Friends
My trip to Nowa Huta in a 1970's era East German Trabant was the highlight of my recent visit to Krakow. I had booked the tour online previous to my visit & everything worked out perfectly. We were met at the hotel bang on time by our friendly, funny & intelligent guide Cornelia. We were then driven through the streets of Krakow to Nowa Huta. It was an amazing experience to be sat in the front seat of an old Trabant after becoming so used to the luxury of modern day cars but I was really impressed with Cornelia's handling of the vehicle & felt very safe. Our first stop at Nowa Huta was the central square where we visited a traditional Polish Milk Bar then had drinks at the oldest restaurant in Nowa Huta the 'Restaurant Stylowa', After that it was to the steel works for some great photo opportunities with our luminous green Trabant! Our tour then included a drive through the town to see the communist style architecture, the new church & the Polish Tank!! After 2.5 hours we were finally dropped back at our hotel at the end of an amazing trip. Cornelia was a nonstop mind of interesting information, amusing stories & she really made the tour so enjoyable! Thank you :)
