About
Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489–1490 and one of Poland's national treasures. The subject of the portrait is Cecilia Gallerani, painted at a time when she was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, and Leonardo was in the service of the duke. The painting is one of only four portraits of women painted by Leonardo considered by many to be the most beautiful. • Please print a voucher that has been sent to you by the Local Supplier via Viator panel or visit 6/9 Józefa Piłsudskiego Street where you will receive a voucher from the Local Supplier. The portrait embodies the Renaissance idea of an image as an illusion of natural vitality. The artist managed to achieve this thanks to his knowledge of anatomy and his skill with light features, which enabled him to create a three- dimensional human figure on the image plane. The original background, which was over-painted with black in the 19th century, was also modeled with light just like the figure, which must have given the impression of the model emerging from the shadows. The painting was purchased ca. 1800 in Italy, by Adam Jerzy, the son of Princess Izabela Czartoryska, and donated to the Museum in Puławy. The portrait became the property of the Republic of Poland in 2016.

Thank you for the review! I agree that there are very few paintings that can match the sublime beauty of Leonardo's masterwork.

Ultimate Exhibit!
Sep 2019
It's the 3rd da Vinci painting I've observed and I my mind it is the Best! Unlike the Mona Lisa where a protective shield has been placed in front of the painting thus difficult to see, the Lady with Ermine is displayed in a way the viewer can be very close with out crowds around. My husband and felt very privileged to view the masterpiece at a close range and linger for what felt like a long time! This was an ultimate experience in Krakow!

The masterpiece is devine
Apr 2019 • Solo
I got to the museum a little late, so I couldn't do most of it. But I went for Da Vinci's masterpiece, so , although sorry, not much was wasted. I found it funny (?) that you can't take a picture. whilst Mona Lisa's Louvre if winking for so many tourists' flashes. Polish are smarter. The keep a copy outside where you can take your picture beside it.
What is to say about the painting? Who am I to add my judgement? Like everything else that is wortswhile, just go.

Lady with an hermine
This is a must see for art lovers and visitors that appreciate the work of Leonardo da Vinci. It's a masterpiece on a solo exhibition with some background information about the painting itself...what more do you need?
We visited on the 31st in the afternoon and it was quiet, just a small group of people were passing through. The museum offers other exhibitions, cafe and toilets on site as you would expect.

The Mistress
Sep 2018 • Couples
Found in the National (Narodowe,to ease your finding it) Museum, Krakow,is (Cecilia Gallerani) Lady with an Ermine, a mistress of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, 15th Century. At the time, Leonardo da Vinci was working on creative projects for him, this being one of them.Google for a historical back catalogue of background, composition, analysis etc.
My response to seeing this painting, one of the oh so few LdV portraits, was one of joy. I was already in love, but in the 'oil' flesh, she did not disappoint. For fear of sounding like an art historian, there is a gentleness, softness, sweetness in her gaze, but little of the intelligence ascribed to her by the one contemporary source. Again, see Google for interpretation.
Whilst I was in attendance, there were at most 6 visitors to the darkened room she is displayed in. For me, how can this be? Krakow is a deservedly popular tourist destination, but this LdV doesn't seem to be on the Things to Do'.map, Why? Lack of awareness/marketing/interest? In my opinion, compared with the (heavily attended) Mona Lisa, Cecilia is more moving, more intriguing, more seductive (in terms of her charm). Perhaps 'Lady with an Ermine' is not a good title for this work? not appealing enough? (Perhaps a title of 'The Mistress' would do it)? Do go and see her, perhaps fall in love with her too.
P.S.,The Fine Arts Gallery included in your ticket access, is well worth a visit..Play my favourite game of selecting one item from each cabinet you'd make houseroom for. OK, that means a very big house.

One painting only
Oct 2018 • Couples
This special exhibition consists of one painting only. With a couple of posters with some descriptions. The painting itself is a masterpiece, but all together the experience is not marvelous. Especially when it's packed with tons of tourists' groups.

Lady with Ermine
Jul 2018 • Couples
This was the 1st time that I have seen a original DeVinci. " Lady with Ermine" is a beautiful painting and the gallery have done a great job in the way they have displayed it. Plenty of room and in a nice dark spot. I would highly recommend you take the time to visit this piece of art.
