Moving memorial to an unbelievable horror.
We took the tour from our hotel and the journey took about an hour from our hotel in the centre of Kraków. Had little idea what to expect and agree with previous posts about the volume of people and lack of appropriate facilities although this seems a little insensitive when faced with the horrors we learned about what the prisoners had to face whilst they were there.

The commentary was informative if a little rushed although this was understandable due to the sheer volume of visitors. We first visited Auschwitz 1 and the tour was sensitive but lacked time for reflection to the horrors that were being described. The most moving part I found was the photos displayed of some of the victims, with their haunted looks and their occupations, date of entry to the camp and then their demise sometimes only weeks later.

The second part of the tour moved to Birkenau which was on a larger scale, but again was extremely moving.

It was a moving tour and generally well managed - my criticisms are personal but I would not have missed the opportunity to visit this place and pay my respects to the innocent victims of genocide.

Outstanding
What a very emotional and humbling experience this tour was. Have seen it on TV many times but to be actually be there and experience the size of it was astounding. The displays are beautifully done and exhibits heartbreaking at times.

Overwhelmingly Sad But A Must Do
Feb 2020 • Friends
My friends and I were on the tour in a group of about 20. Before you enter there are boards around giving you an insight to the horrors that happened and also boards with real survivors stories on them, take the time to read them, we were given about 25 mins to do this before going in the camp, take the time to read the real stories. Our guide was Luke, his KNOWLEDGE and his ENGLISH were EXCELLENT. The facts of what actually happened here and the cruelty these evil men inflicted upon these poor innocent people filled me with overwhelming sadness. Seeing the personal belongings is heartbreaking, I will never forget this trip and have taken a lot from it. We all know the horrors of what happened but to actually go and see it brings the reality of it home to you.. I really believe that everyone should go and experience this tour..

No words can describe
Thoroughly enjoyed our time walking around both of these locations, putting a visual aid to the books and documentary's watched about Aushwitz. A very sobering experience. I would recommend aushwitz to everybody, and as much as people feel this is the wrong place to go, it's necessary. Necessary because without seeing what you see it's hard to believe it happened. Without seeing it, which is what all involved want you to see, history could repeat itself and this is a way of preventing it.

My only niggle to this group tour aspect was it felt very rushed. We didn't have the time to really take in, ask questions and wonder the locations properly. The guide was keeping to a schedule which unfortunately meant walking quickly and missing alot. At Birkenau unfortunately a lady chose not to continue with the group purely because she couldn't keep up. Birkenau is a massive site and it was crammed into 40 mins.

This tour is great if you want a taste. But my recommendation for anyone looking to spend a full day at both locations, get a personal guide!

Remember.
Went on a day tour. Bus collected us in Krakow city centre. Journey time 1 and a half hours each way.

Auschwitz is very touristy. Lots of queues in each building which does detract from the poignancy of it.

Our guide was knowledgeable and polite. However I was expecting more in the way of life stories about the history and life in Auschwitz.

It's hard to describe but I did find Dacau more sombre and quiet with time to reflect and read.

That said it is a vital part of history and one we should pass on to each generation.

Everyone should go!

I have been before years ago. The organization and the tour is much improved. We all need to be reminded so maybe we can stop it from ever happening again although as I write this the world seems to be in an uproar again. Man’s cruelly to man is on full display in these places.
Our driver Bartek was fantastic!!! Extremely informative to and from Krakow.
Only complaint: no one should ever have to pay to go to the bathroom especially since there are no alternatives and you are paying to go inside otherwise you wouldn’t be there.

This is a hard review to write.
It is a longish day out with the trip being 3 hours there and back.
Picked up from our hotel at 8:50. On time. After a couple of other pick ups there were 8 of us in the van and off we went.
First stop was Auschwitz. When you get to the car park you see all the coaches and mini vans and get an idea of the number of people visiting. We found out that 7000 people visit every weekday and 10000 every weekend day. That is 55000 people a week!
Off we went to the entrance to join others who will be in the same group. Off we set with another large group in front of us and another large group following closely behind. I know the guides do this for a living and therefore do this day after day but there seemed no passion in the delivery it was full of interesting points but as she had a large group and using a microphone so we could all hear on our head pieces you could not really ask any questions. A few people wanted to read the documents on display and got caught in the following group, the same applied if you wanted to take photographs.
It seemed as if each group had only a very limited time so they could fit in more and more groups.
We went round in slightly less than 2 hours. Then back to the mini van something to eat (you cannot take food into Auschwitz). Then a 5/10 minute drive to Birkenau. We meet up with the same guide. This time you have to stay close by her as no microphone or head pieces just here talking. Birkenau is much larger but we were taken around in 1 hour - then it was all over.
One member of the group asked why she referred to the Russians as the liberators when oppressed the Poles for a much longer period. She said they have no other word for it.
Yes it is a very quite place (except for the thousands of tourist) yes it is shocking to be told what happened there and to be standing on the spot it happened. Yes I truly hope people learn from this and that it never happens again, However I felt I wanted a bit more time to look instead of being made to fell I had to rush or I would hold up the next group. I can imagine there is one long snake of people from the first trip to the end and some thinking if we can cut another 5 minutes off the tour they could perhaps fit another 40 person group in.
