About
Having arrived at the former camp, we'll remember the tragic events which took place here from 1943 onwards, when Płaszów began to receive thousands of Jews from the Krakow ghetto. You will get to learn about the remarkable history of Krakow city during the holocaust.
The camp and life in it are shown in the Schindler's List movie (1993) about the life of Oskar Schindler. The area which held the camp now consists of sparsely wooded hills and fields, with one large memorial to all the victims, erected in 1964 and few smaller. As the Plaszow area is now a nature preserve, so the director Steven Spielberg built a camp replica in the Liban Quarry, some hundred meters away.
We will visit all these points during our tour and you will enjoy this tour and learn a lot from it.

- 1Our guided visit will start and your guide will be more than happy to show you around and give all the information you need to know. While thousands of tourists use Krakow as the starting point for visiting Auschwitz, few are aware that Krakow actually has a former concentration camp in its own backyard. On the other side of the river, in the depths of Podgórze, the vast area is almost undeveloped, despite the fact that it is located in one of the most desirable commercial and residential districts of the city - on the main communication artery (Wielicka Street), opposite a large shopping center (Bonarka) and not far from main tourist attraction (Krakus Mound). It is the former seat of the "Konzentrationslager Plaszow bei Krakau'' - the German Nazi concentration camp in Płaszów, today a wild, uneven space of land, which until recently did not indicate its own existence, let alone its wartime history.Pass byGhetto Wall Fragment

- 1956stuart0 contributionsThe History of Krakow.Great place for history and what the feeling must have felt like at the time in WW2. You see the former housing districts where the Jewish people lived, the getto areas and of course the synagogues. The Schindler factory tour was amazing and the displays for those to learn. The one thing which was also nice to do was visiting the Plastow camp nearby, just green grass with history info now, but still as lots there to take in and seeWritten 30 September 2024
- 631js6310 contributionsSo much to see and do on one tour!We met our guide Ava at St. Mary Magdalene Square and walked about 6 minutes to the Castle gate. The tour of the royal cathedral and then the apartments and the history she taught us was fascinating. (Our ticket included the Royal Treasury which we did on our own another day).Johanna met us there and walked with us to our lunch destination Kuchnia u Doroty, which was so delicious and authentic. My advice is to split 2 different entrees! Then she came back for us and walked us to the Cloth Hall where we entered the underground story and remains of the city of Krakow. Wonderful day!!Written 10 September 2024
