Definitely the worst experience that we have had
THIS IS NOT A HOP ON HOP OF BUS AS WE KNOW IT I would like bring to your attention that the hop on hop of Bus tour in Budapest City was very disappointing. We, my Wife and I managed to board the on and of bus in the morning when the Bus was absolutely packed. Standing was very packed also, you could not move. We love exploring City’s in the World, discover their history and viewing the Structures. On the Bus we have seen nothing of that. We could not plug in for commentary. Every stop we had the officials pushed more people on the bus. The lady announcer even cried with the pressure that was put on her. She told the officials no more people and still more came aboard. It was very unpleasant, it seems the people selling the tickets want to make as much as possible, must be a bonus system. If it was not for the tourism coming to Budapest, you would not have that business. Instead of looking after the people that come to visit this city it seems the money is more important. We disembarked of the bus at number 1 station to discuss the inconvenience that we witnessed on the bus, with either the Owner or Manager also asked for a refund. The answer was a firm no. Why not get on the Bus again was the answer. We have other plans, we have wasted all morning. He also advised that there is no guarantee that you will get a seat. I then asked where does it say that. After him looking to find where that was. He pointed it out to me in a brochure. I mentioned that we did not receive the brochure until we got on the bus and secondly the print was so small and getting pushed around with other guests it was impossible to even look at the brochure. We actually did hop on the bus mid next morning as we did not want to waste the expense for the ticket purchased. The issue was exactly the same on that day with people standing and getting pushed around. Pictures enclosed for both days. I also pointed out that to the person I spoke with that our stay was very short. We have been on many ON and OFF buses in the past, once the seats were taken no more passengers were allowed on the bus and that was always great. I would certainly NOT recommend to visit your Hop on Red Bus in Budapest. My recommendation to this revue is a big Zero. I have discussed that with my Friends and Family that are traveling in the same area, they will certainly not be boarding your busses. I look forward to your comments. Best quickie tour
This bus tour is well worth the money. Would have rated a five but experience with one of the employees is reflected in rating. but overall this bus tour is great. You get to see all the top attractions in a short period of time. I had one day to knock out all of the must sees in Budapest. And this tour allowed me to do so. Don’t think twice do it.

    Poor communication
We visited Budapest during the COVID pandemic. There was no communication from the bus company regarding cancellation of service etc. The day we did go- bus was clean and pleasant but communication was a real let down

Interesting way to see the city at night
A bit crowded, even in the off season, so I don't dare to imagine what it must be like in the peak of the high season. It's a nice way to see the city at night, especially if you get a seat on the upper deck.

We had a ball, travelling around on the Big Bus. The staff were very friendly. On the bus you were spoilt by personal headsets with great commentary

    Disappointing
We did the full package with the hop on/off bus during the day, a Danube cruise, Buda Castle, and a night bus tour. The daytime bus was good and we were able to see pretty much all of the sights. The Danube cruise was disappointing because the boat did not turn so everyone could get pictures of the Chain bridge and Parliament building, so we all had to run around if we wanted pictures. The night bus tour had the same recordings as the day tour and there was only a brief photo stop at Fisherman's bastion area. We would have been better off walking to get nighttime photos. Also, the castle bus that is part of Big Bus does not operate as many buses as the official castle tour bus, so we spent a lot of time waiting for a bus because the buses were always full.

Nice Bus Tour Recommended to Everyone
We didn’t plan much before our trip, so we just book a bus tour! It was better than what I expected. We bought a package of Budapest and Vienna. We were happy we did that. Traveling in winter could make you sick if you stayed outdoor for too long. Staying on Big Tour buses can let you stay in a warm place while seeing different places! The narratives are great too, we learned a lot from listening to them.

One of the better HOHO tours
I've tried many hop on hop off tours in many cities around the world. Some are not value for money, and some are even a waste of time, but this one in Budapest was OK. The Deluxe Ticket gets you three days, plus a walking tour, boat tour and night tour. The red route was best, but the castle route (using much smaller buses) was full meaning that you had to wait for several buses to pass before you could get on one. We even ended up walking part of the tour so that we didn't waste any time.

    Over-subscribed and poorly organised
Bought the tickets on line and downloaded the ap (which is fantastic providing live updates of next bus and navigation to stops as well as info on sites / attractions). Sadly, the number of people trying to use the buses was so great that it was often not possible to get on the first bus (even if you were first at the stop) and the staff at the stops did nothing to organise a queue / regulate who got on - preferring to sell yet more tickets (probably chasing sales commission?). Ended up walking most of the time as unable to use the bus. The night tour was even worse! Got there early as advised - no organisation until 20 mins before - at which point the person on duty organised a queue, but kept putting pretty girls and friends at the front. Ended up in a poor seat, despite being the 3rd person there 45 minutes early. Wouldn’t have mattered, the bus quickly steamed up so no one could see anything anyway. They really need to organise better (or hire staff with less testosterone!). Not worth the wait.

We now choose them over city sight seeing
The real bottom line has been anyone big bus is there, their operation is just more squared away. With city sight seeing you feel like cattle at the cheap farm. Go big bus, you well be glad you did.

    Good. Value
December must be quiet as I bought a day ticket and was upgraded to two days. These tours are my go to in every city and this one was good. Buses were regular and staff friendly. The absolute highlight was the walking tour with Koop. Very knowledgeable and friendly. That said I am always disappointed with prerecorded commentary and this was no exception. There is so much more that a guide would give you. Boat trip with silver line was ok. This time the tape was misaligned with where we were and there was more music than commentary. Why? I can get all the music I want at home. Still overall it was a success

    Big bus night time cruise
This is a very pleasant way of seeing Budapest at night all lit up. Last just over an hour with basic commentary but gives you a great idea of where everything is. We just did the basic cruise that was included in the ticket which was perfect for our tired legs after a hard days sight seeing. It’s also a great thing to do if you arrive in the afternoon and don’t really have time for much else. Good value for the ticket price.

Currently enjoying a 4 day break in Budapest. At the start of the first day we booked the Hop on Hop off 3 day tickets.

With the weather being really sunny we were looking forward to a few days of open top sight seeing only to find that all the bus’s operates by the Big Bus company have the roofs closed and all the heaters turned on????

Lots of other parties on the buses were also confused and disappointed so I spoke to 2 drivers on 2 separate buses only to receive a very rude and abrupt “No!” When asking if the roof could be opened?

What’s the point of operating buses that can have the roofs open and show so on the website when you don’t actually do this? If we had known we would have chosen the other main operator. Very disappointing and prevents you from seeing the sights fully when you have a Red rubber roof above your head?

The Hop on Hop off bus tour is a definite must in Budapest. It was recommended by local host in Budapest and I can only agree. It is not that expensive and the tour covers all the necessary tourist attractions. It is best to do the full day tour as there is much to be seen in this beautiful city. I would also recommend the added boat trip the company has to offer. The best way to get value for your money is to start as early as possible in order to get in most of the trip's sights. For me the highlight was the additional boat trip that lasted an hour as you get to see the city from the river.
I opted to do the Hop on - Hop off tour on my second last day of my stay and it worked out perfectly. As I had already roamed around the city and got myself familiar with the surroundings, it was an awesome round up for me. I could appreciate the information given by the company as you drive along because I have taken the time to get to know the place at my own pace.

Depends how long you are in the city for but we bought the Deluxe ticket and it worked a treat and was great value too (36 euros - 3days)

in this price you got...

1. Night tour (1hr & different perspective of city).
2. River cruise 1.5hr?
3. Buda Castle return suttle (we only used one way)
4. Hop on & off for 3 days
5. Free wifi (good)
6. Walking tour (we didn't get a chance to use this one)

fantastic way to see the city. It was busy when we were there in sept but plenty of buses available and they cover all the key city centre stops/highlights.

Dear Kate, Thank you for letting know your thoughts. We apologize for any inconvenience. According to our actual time schedule buses run in every 25 minutes, During the high season we are running with a better frequency. Hopefully you had a lovely visit and next time we will have the chance to show that the best sightseeing tour of Budapest is provided by Big Bus. Best, The Big Bus Team

I went with my girlfriend to the NewYork Palace on February 12th.

I knew a bit about Bigbus tours. So i choosed Bigbus tours, on the stop i found a Customer Service Agent 'Ahmad H' maybe from Pakistan, his english was fluent, dressed well and he made me understand all the stops for the hop on/off, river cruise, castle shuttle and the blue route for Citadel.

Our trip was amazing.
Driver was not good in English and he did not help me in any information.
So 5 stars from us to the Buses and the nice and supportive Customer Agent.

We took this tour when our walking guide failed to turn up due to illness. Having taken one of these in London a few years ago we hoped it would be the same.

We bought tickets online which was a mistake. We turned up at stop 1 (of 20) with our electronic tickets and were told we needed to exchange them for physical tickets at their office (near stop 1). The person there was exceptionally unhelpful and rude but we eventually got our physical tickets. I have no idea how this would work if you were on the other side of the city.

The bus we were on was an open top bus but with the plastic roof on. This meant our views through the clear plastic, dirty and scuffed windows was limited. The english audio guide was also extremely poor. The commentator had a strong eastern european accent making them difficult to understand but over and above that the actual content was weak. It felt to me like a list of squares and buildings on the left/right but with little historical content. I felt as though I'd learned nothing at the end of the tour. The ticket price also includes a boat ride up and down the Danube - this was better than the bus but still not great.

Half way through the trip it started raining. The poor people in front of us got soaked when water gushed in through the roof.

The tickets were around €25 each. I feel like I got a €1 bus ride and tour, €8 boat ride and paid €16 for some plastic headphones. Do yourself a favour and buy a 24 hour Metro ticket (around ~€4) and tour the city yourself as it's not difficult. The walking tours are also a great option and much better value than this company.

After using hop on hop off tours in other cities thought this would be a good way of getting our bearings of Budapest, however we were quite disappointed. After reading mixed reviews I checked with online chat before booking that if we booked online, vouchers could be redeemed on the bus and was advised that wouldnt be a problem either with a member of staff or the driver. We were weighing up the option of using big bus or city sightseeing but again asking online chat with both companies we were advised big bus only ran every hour but were able to track when the next bus was due, whereas city sightseeing was every 30 mins but had no tracker or timetable, therefore we opted for big bus. We booked online and received the voucher which then advised we would have to redeem at the shop stop 1 at the Basilica (We were boarding over the other side of the city) Again i went online chat and was again advised we could redeem on the bus. We then went to catch the bus due at 10:14 getting there in plenty of time. At 10.14 the city sightseeing bus came and went, but we continued to wait for the big bus which eventually turned up at 10.44. We were told we couldn't redeem our tickets on the bus but could ride the bus to the Basilica, get off and redeem our voucher at the shop, this meant not only were we half an hour late catching the bus but also due to having to get off to redeem voucher then had to wait for the next bus. So lost at least an hour due to this which when you're on a tight schedule to get everything in isnt ideal. However, when we got on the big bus the interior was decked out as City Seeing and their uniforms were mismatched so when we redeemed our voucher we asked and were informed that the companies had merged so could catch either bus. It would have been helpful if we were told this on the 3 occasions i used the online chat. I feel the buses provided a use to get your bearings and were fairly useful however a lot of time was spent working out timings to get to various landmarks only to find on a few occassions that the bus had left our stop early so missed out on doing some things. We would like to go back to Budapest but now we know where everything is we would use public transport.
(I have left this review on both companies page due to them being one and the same)

Great experience. Buses came frequently and commentary was interesting and helpful. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable. After the first full circuit we used the bus as a taxi service and hopped on and off at will. Great value for money. Staff were not overly pushy in a city peopled by hard sell merchants which was refreshing.

We have use Big Bus as a company for many year from London to Sydney to Paris and Singapore and have never been so disappointed!

The bus stop locations were hard to find- not visible signage, the buses took forever to come and the voice over tour guide was never in time with what we were seeing in real time.

To find where the bus stopped near my hotel I needed to ask a member from another tour company who was extremely helpful and made me wish I had booked with them.

In -2° weather we seemed to stand around waiting for buses a lot, that’s when we could locate a stop. Even using the big bus map!

We were pretty disappointed with the running of the BUDAPEST big bus.

This is a long story but I will to stick to the key points. In lockdown we changed our big bus 2 day ticket due to our flights obviously being cancelled. I was delighted we could amend our tickets as long as we notified within 48 hours of arrival. After 2 years of trying to get to Budapest we were finally on our way. I emailed BB 3 months before the travel date and it was confirmed that the tickets would be available for our trip. As requested I emailed 48 hours before our arrival, however no response was received. This is when it all went wrong. Having had no email response I visited the BB shop in Budapest at 9:30am on the first day of our holiday to be told they are now a franchise and only the London office could provide our tickets (I just travelled from London). The BB gentleman was very helpful and took my booking number, email history etc. and offered to call BB London. At 5pm (he contacted me to say that all sorted and to attend the BB live chat for my ticket code. By this point we had already had 1 day of our 3 day mini break. I contacted live chat and after over an hours of back and forth I was told that my 2 day ticket will be email over shortly. Needless to say this never happened. After sending an email chasing my tickets I actually got an email response 5 days after returning to London. After complaining about the terrible service I was offered a 12 month extension to my 2 day ticket which is obviously no good as I had left Budapest. T Absolutely appalling service and having been a fan of BB before COVID I am disappointed at their lack of care and customer service. I will book with them ever again.
