About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- bugmonster0 contributionsUnique experience in BudapestUnique experience to see the "other" side of Budapest. Guide was very accommodating of our group, including one member with claustrophobia. There are often several routes to advance to the next space, so the more adventurous can go one way and others have a different option. It is very warm in the cave compared to outside during the winter, so a Tshirt is fine as thick coveralls are provided. At one point we sat in a large room in the cave and turned off all our headlamps and kept silent for a while - very cool experience with no light or sound. Highly recommended for families.Written 11 January 2025
- Asma A0 contributionsAdventurousThe experience is amazing and our guide was amazing.. he’s a geologist and he is just great!! Can be risky and scary at certain points. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes u don’t mind getting super dirty.Written 2 December 2024
- lauradW5904LQ0 contributionsFavorite experience in BudapestWe did this cave tour with Melinda as our guide. Phenomenal adventure. Would do it again tomorrow if we could. That said… there’s a few nice-to-knows. It’s a very physical activity, really only appropriate for fairly fit people. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t go; you spend the majority of the time sliding, scooting, or belly crawling through narrow tunnels. Bring gloves if you can - even hardware store cheapo latex and mesh ones. Someone in our group got stuck, literally stuck (it’s possible it may have been my husband who wears a 34” waist pant). Had to be pushed from one side and pulled from the other to get unwedged. There was an alternative route around this squeeze, so if it feels too tight, tell your guide before you keep trying to squash yourself through. Wear rugged sneakers or hiking boots that you don’t mind getting very dirty. It’s easy to get to on public transportation. Book it.Written 4 November 2024
- TheWorldIsMyOyster190 contributionsA great time adventure caving!I went on the English Adventure Caving Tour with Peter. It was super safe, challenging and a unique/cool experience. Peter is very knowledgeable about the cave system and full of fun facts about the treasures in the cave.Written 31 October 2024
- 954jaye0 contributionsAn exciting hidden gem just 15 mins from the cityIt is an amazing experience, just a short bus journey outside the city. Our guide was insightful and very experienced, tailoring the course according to the physical ability of the group. His quirky sense of humour will help anyone who is a little nervous. The three hours go quickly, and it's a great activity to do before a visit to the thermal baths or to get away from any undesirable weather conditions outside (the caves are a fairly consistent temperature both in winter and summer). A must-do for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.Written 5 October 2024
- Relax457721833700 contributionsChallenging and fun.Challenging and fun. Way more adventurous than I expected, in a good way. Some really small crevices to pull yourself through! Not for anyone who tends toward claustrophobia. My kids ages 16 and 11 loved it.Written 4 October 2024
- EmmaR40220 contributionsBest Caving Trip EverCould not have been a cooler experience!! This is hands down the best caving experience I've ever had. Went as a solo traveller and had a super friendly guide - Andrew and an awesome cave system with heaps of nooks and crannies to squeeze through and have some fun.Written 3 October 2024
- F9947YYsarahm0 contributionsgreat experienceGreat experience! Szilard, our guide took us down into the caves for an almost 3 hour trip. we had to pass through some very narrow openings and it was physically challenging, in a good way. 11 & 16 year olds loved it. wear cool clothes, bc they kit you out in full coveralls.Written 2 October 2024
- Worlds_of_Wonder0 contributionsSuch a joy! Unique tour in Budapest!OMG. This was absolutely fantastic and a well run tour. Don't come to Budapest for this, but if you are in Budapest, want to do something different, and are in good shape DO THIS. Absolutely got moneys worth with expert guidance by "Leslie." Activity was a good workout. Pro tips: Don't bring things you aren't willing to put in a locker; don't wear your best shoes (!!!); and don't drink things before the tour that increase your need to go to the bathtoom!Written 8 September 2024
- Oivavoioriginal0 contributionsBrilliantAmazing experience. Great guide, great value for money. Be aware this isn't a fun tourist activity it is actually caving underground that last for nearly three hours. You need to be fit, mobile and not too large.Written 10 July 2024
- 497mall0 contributionsFun, exciting and not to be missedDefinitely worth doing if you have a sense of adventure and like to experience new situations. Your hands and long hair will get dirty. You will get bruises. Wear shoes with good grip that you don’t mind getting dirty and wear clothes that do not restrict movement as you will be climbing and clambering through some tight spots. The tour is very well put together and make sure you listen to your guide. An amazing experience not to be missed if you have the chance.Written 12 June 2024
- Road246429572370 contributionsAmazing experience!Great experience and highlight of my time in Budapest! Immersive from start to finish and difficult sections offer alternate routes and the instructor is very helpful when necessary. Definitely worth it and recommend! - kelspels0 contributionsSuperb Spelunking ExperienceI had an amazing time during this caving tour!! The guide was great about accommodating to the group as well as giving individuals different options to ensure everyone was having a good time. Not only was it super cool to crawl around the caves, but along the way you also got to learn a little bit about the caves themselves which was very interesting. It is definitely a bit of a workout, so be prepared, but it is nothing too strenuous. I highly recommend this experience while in Budapest (unless you are claustrophobic)!!Written 22 April 2024
- JRiceHut0 contributionsCaving...you gotta try 🤣It was such an awesome experience, never know what you're capable of... 3 hours of that xD you will get a good idea... we had quite a lovely little group as well so very thankful for that! special shout out to our host Solit (sorry misspelling) he was so enthusiastic with awesome humour, he made it a one of a kind tour! I hope I get to be as fast and agile as you some day, thank you for looking after us and entertaining us allWritten 22 April 2024
- 545annelin0 contributionsFirst time cavingHad a lot of fun in the caves! Initially was worried a bit as I had never been in these type of caves before but this was completely unnecessary. Our guide Szilard made us feel relaxed and during the whole experience he checked with the group how do we feel and if we should go more complicated route or easier route. When evert we get back to Budapest, I would def do this again and even go for the extreme tour.Written 14 April 2024

Had an amazing tour of the caves with a wonderful guide, Peter. A lot of walking involved so wear comfortable shoes! Beautiful rock formations and our guide gave a good commentary about the caves and was also friendly and humorous! A pleasant temperature underground. Would thoroughly recommend a visit here.

We had Victor as our guide, who told us a lot of interesting things about the formation of the two cave systems we explored. We particularly liked his humorous manner and the pleasant pace. You should have a certain level of basic fitness, as you will start to get out of breath after just one or two places.

Great trip. The guide was very good and informative, however I could have avoided all the times he showed us e.g. Snow White and the 7 dwarfs or a crocodile etc. but otherwise a really good trip, can be highly recommended.

We did the adventure caving program in January and had a lot of fun. The guide was very knowledgeable about caving in Hungary and around the world, and taught us a lot about the country, culture and caving as a hobby. He told us a lot about the fossils and minerals that we saw in the cave as well.
His English was very good and he had a great sense of humour that made the experience even more enjoyable. He took the effort into talking with each person in our tour group and to learn their names which was very kind. He also seemed very flexible to tailor the experience to the desires of the group, e.g. if you showed interest in experiencing as much as possible and weren't apprehensive he would encourage the group to try more challenging parts of the trail. He was very fast going through the spaces in the cave, which the rest of the group thought was quite funny as he manoeuvred through them like a worm. The air quality in the caves is very good so you don't have to worry about getting sick or feeling faint.
There are about 10 particularly tightish spots on the walk, with 2 or 3 being more narrow. For the more narrow parts, there was an option to go via an easier route if you felt too claustrophobic. Our guide told us that a 6 foot 5 tall, 300 pound (2m, 130kg) american football player was able to finish the adventure caving experience so most people shouldn't feel as if they won't fit! On the more difficult parts of the walk, the guide watched each individual go through those areas and gave them assistance if they didn't know where to place their arm/hand/whether to watch their heads on the ceiling, etc, so at not point did it feel unsafe.
If you have particularly soft/fragile skin, it may be a good idea to ask for knee pads as there is a fair bit of walking on your knees. If you want to be extra careful you can even bring gloves. I wore neither, and whilst my knees were a bit sore and bruised the next day, I would still go without knee pads if I did it again as it was part of the experience.
The lockers are locked by the guide before you leave, and he holds the key to all of them to prevent anyone losing their key in the cave. It is unlocked when you get back in the changing room. The changing room also has 2 toilets that you can use, which I recommend using before the walk.
I wore leggings and a tank top under my overalls, and I was still quite sweaty as it is very humid in the cave all year. If you are a girl with long hair, definitely bring a hair tie and tuck your hair into your overalls to prevent it from getting dirty/in your face, especially when crawling through tight spaces. The overalls have a pocket where you can fit your phone or something, however you may not want to risk getting it scratched or something so you can leave it in the locker.
Overalls and hamlet are provided, but you bring and wear your own shoe. Your shoes will get dirty, however it is not difficult to clean them afterwards. Most enclosed footwear such as sneakers will be adequate.
The guide mentioned that they tend to keep groups under 11 people or so, so they can pay attention to everyone on the tour.
Our guide mentioned they are working on an adventure caving program for disabled people which allows them to experience the caves, even if they are in a wheelchair, blind, etc. We thought this was a really cool idea and for a small part of the route he asked us if we wanted to experience what the tour is like for blind people. As our group was willing, we were instructed to turn all of our helmet lights off and manoeuvre through a small part of the cave only relying on the touch of other people in the group, and their instructions. We thought this was a really interesting experience, especially since the cave is pure black without your lights on. The guide informed us that if anyone was uncomfortable with doing this that that was fine and they didn't have to so you will never have to be forced into doing something that makes you too scared, however I do highly recommend trying that experience as its very special.
The building is quite easy to find as there is a bus stop right outside. If you are coming by bus from the city, once you get off you will have to cross the road. Once the road is crossed, if you look down you will see a cabin style house with some outdoor seating. There are stairs opposite the bus stop that will take you down there. Downstairs there is a bar area where you can get a drink before you start, as well as a friendly cat that walks around. The locker rooms and check in area of the caving adventure are upstairs.
Additionally, when we had booked the session it stated that the price was 10,000 HUF per person. When we got there to the pay, the guide informed us the price had been lowered to about 7,700 HUF per person. Instead of taking the full price we thought we had to pay, he made sure we paid the new, reduced price which we thought was very nice.
They do not take card, however one individual said they didn't bring cash and they offered him the option to pay via PayPal.
One tip, since some parts are a bit slippery, leave a bit of space, about 1.5 feet or 40-50cm between the person in front of you's shoes and your face, as they may slip a bit or kick their feet around a little to pull themselves up through some spaces. This way you can prevent your face getting hit by someone's foot when you're crawling through small spaces/upwards. No one got hit in the face on my tour, but its something to keep in mind.

We took the English speaking tour and the guide was an expert caver so had a good deal of knowledge about caves and spoke good English. The caves were user-friendly with good pavement and handrails almost everywhere.
Going from one cave to the next involved a one mile uphill walk. A shuttle bus would be a good idea as it was very hot outside. The first cave had lockers for personal items but the second cave did not.
The easiest way to get there and back is by taxi which is about 11 euros each way.

We decided to go caving underground and weren’t sure what to expect. We loved it! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, experienced and helpful throughout. He shared his personal & professional experiences, gave clear directions and answered any questions that we had. We appreciated this experience, and recommend it! Read up on what to expect before you go so that you are fully prepared. Don’t go if you don’t like dark and small spaces.

The cave trip just blew my mind. Came alone on a Monday, and was the only person on the Adventure tour (they also have non-intense walking tours, but this review is of the physical tour).
Guide was Edith, who has 15 years of caving experience, in addition to being an environmental scientist (I think), and she led me through an epic adventure where we walked, crawled, and climbed through an intricate cave system, which is an absolute natural marvel to behold and navigate through!
Edith speaks absolutely perfect English with an awesome Hungarian accent, and went in detail explaining about rock formations, soil composition, etc. Really an in-depth experience, if I ever had one.
If you're worried about it being a 'touristy' trip, with electric lights, safety railings, etc., rest assured - this is 100% natural, and you will be challenged (if you're not a seasoned cave explorer already)!
It's just you, your guide (and maybe some other tour members) and your helmet (with an attached headlamp).
Be aware that it's absolutely a physical trip. They're not exaggerating when they say that on their website. There are some rather small gaps where you need to fit through, as well as a fair deal of physical exercise where you bend, crawl and climb.
You don't need to be an athlete though - If you're in moderate shape and don't have any disabilities or hampering injuries, you should be fine.
Getting there is easy - I just followed Google Maps with no problems at all.
All in all, I would give 10/5 stars if I could! Probably the best experience of this kind I've ever had!

We opted for the English tour and was guided around both caves by Adam who is very polite, funny and knowlegeable. The caves are very pretty and can be easily walked through on mostly concrete walkways. There are some steps and one steep ladder, but the whole place is well lit with handrails so is perfectly safe. I would suggest this for anyone with no previous cave experience, or who wants an easy, casual look through a well lit, well presented cave. Anyone looking for a proper adventure should seek the adventure caving experience which looks like it would represent a proper challenge (head torches, hands and knees-type stuff!) Chatting with Adam at the bus stop after our tour, we learned he is a volunteer guide. The fact we didn't realise this during the tour just shows how genuinely interested and enthusiastic Adam is in both tour guiding, and the cave geology itself. He made the visit very enjoyable indeed. If I return to Budapest I will without doubt be booking the adventure caving experience with the same organisation!

We chose the Active Climbing Adventure thinking it would be slightly more challenging than the easier walking tour. Be prepared! This is an intense caving adventure where you are climbing through tiny holes, pushing yourself through using your toes! You will climb over, under, and through rocks. You will climb over steeply angled wet, slippery rocks and will likely think, "oh I could easily get hurt/ die in this situation." Now, this is an amazing experience and we are extremely satisfied with the guides and the adventure. Bring extra shoes and advil; you will be muddy and bruised, but it's worth it!
