Our tour went beyond our expectations. The tour guide(Bullash) is experienced and very knowledgable, and his explanations of Hungarian history and the culture made a significant impact on our appreciation of the Buda part of Budapest. I strongly recommend the tour and him to anyone who visits Budapest. It is so worth it to familiarize yourself with the city prior to appreciating it even further.

    Great guided tour
Our guide Odea was amazing! Her knowledge was huge, her storytelling was exiting, including, and humoristic. Everything was perfect. The weather was super cold. 2 hours with 10-15 mins standing still and listening requires warm clothing.

We say "free" but nothing in this world is free. You can go on this walking tour for free but why would you when you can be shown the history of Budapest in two hours? Our guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly. Easy walking throughout Budapest and plenty of stops at interesting sites across the Pest side of Budapest. Book on the website to avoid disappointment but during our walk there were lots of walk ups who were welcomed onto the walk. I always choose "free" walking tours when on city breaks and this was one of the best. Highly recommended.

Great walking tour with Lily in Budapest.

We covered a lot of ground on the 2 1/2 hour tour but we had regular stops on the free walking tour led by Lily who was really good at describing the landmarks that we visited and historical events of the city.

There were lots of opportunities for taking photos and soaking up the atmosphere at the landmarks and areas that we visited.
Lily engaged really well with all of the group and adapted her talk to respond to any queries raised.

I completed the tour with 4 friends and we all enjoyed it.
There were around 20 other people on the tour from a variety of countries.

Although the tour was free there was a minimum suggested donation to cover the local tax charges.
We were happy to pay much more than the minimum suggested rate due to our consideration of the high quality of the tour.

I would recommend the tour in order to get a good feel for the city and for information on the history, areas and practical things to consider while visiting Budapest.

Dear Colette, Thank you for your review. I have contacted TripAdvisor to remove it from our account as it does not pertain to our tours. We do not have a guide named Lily or anything similar. Additionally, our tours are clearly stated to take up to 2 hours in the tour description. Furthermore, we want to address the issue of tipping. Our guides are trained to adhere to professional standards and do not suggest specific tip amounts to guests. We prioritize transparency, and all information regarding tipping customs is readily available on our website for guests' reference. The guidance offered is to assist guests who may be unfamiliar with local tipping customs, but it is by no means an obligation. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Kind regards, Triptobudapest.hu - Free Budapest Walking Tours Team

First of all, thank you to my new favorite guide Rrrrrita <3 who made the walking tour very enjoyable and educational. She speaks English fluently and knows how to amplify her voice so that people at the back can also hear clearly. The tour consist of visiting the most famous places on the Buda side but what I liked the most was the fun facts Rita included in between her historical monologues. And she interacts a lot with her public. I know, I keep on praising her but that’s truly what made the tour fun to me : her good and positive energy. It’s like an old friend showing you around their hometown and their fav places to go to. Anyway if you’re not into a tour that’s similar to what you used to do in middle school I 100% recommend going on a walking tour which I found more casual. One downside I might add is that the tour lasted shorter than the time indicated.
Thank you once again Rita !

Andy was our guide. He was friendly and informative. His English was very good and he included relevant history into his tour, without overloading us. He managed to present the tour with great sense of humour.
Certainly recommend this tour early in a visit to Budapest and as others have said booking directly on the website avoids fees.

We did the free walking city tour Chris and the Jewish quarter city tour with Petra. Both were amazing guides, informative with clear voices and pronunciation, spoke English well and explained the history in a simple easy to understand manner.
It's the best way to see the city, understand its history and absorb the vibes through a local knowledgeable guide.
We loved it and i highly recommend this tour. It's better than paying 50 dollars for a hop on hop off tour. Instead pay the guides that so they can serve more people... And give the tourists a real insight of their city.

Dear NeedyB, Thank you so much for your glowing review. We were pleased to read that your tour guides were very knowledgeable with powerful and clear voice and excellent commercial free recommendations on going out and eating out. Hop on buses are expensive in Budapest. Majority is overcrowded and stuck in traffic during the rush hours. Bus/metro /tram ticket cost £0.80 per single ride ( or £11 for group day card with unlimited travel for up to 5 people travelling together) ...and the city buses/trams/metro can get you everywhere you want. Again, thank you for recommending our tours. Have a wonderful day! Kind regards, Triptobudapest.hu - Free Budapest Walking Tours Team

Did the standard tour with Petra which was very informative, we got to see and learn a fair bit in the short time, would highly recommend as one of the first things you do when getting to Budapest, to give yourself a good sense of the city. Was so good we also did the Castle tour, braving the freezing cold, and to her credit our guide kept us all moving and interested. Highly recommend doing both, the guides are great and also provide plenty of tips for travel, things to do, restaurants, public transport, etc.

Our tour guide Petra was incredibly knowledgable and provided us with a detailed yet concise account as to the origin of both Budapest and Hungary. Very good if you’re after a general timeline overview of the history of the country. The views over the entire city were incredible from the top of Buda Hill - I’d recommend to anyone paying a visit.
