Overview
Spend your time in port in Akaroa on a small-group shore excursion, sea kayaking around the harbor. Bask in the scenery of remote bays and inlets, and catch a glimpse of local marine life, including penguins, orcas, and endangered Hector’s dolphins. You’ll paddle for three hours with a guide through the basin of an extinct volcano and stop for a snack and swim at a coastal beach. This tour departs within walking distance of the cruise port.
What to Expect
When your cruise ship docks in the beautiful french village of Akaroa, stroll through town to the kayak base and meet your guide to begin your 3-hour tour. Following an informative safety briefing, your guides will prepare your kayak for launch then take to Akaroa’s volcanic basin waters.
Small group numbers are key as we are visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, enjoy exploring this marine reserve in a low-impact and environmentally responsible way. Close encounters. No noise, No engines, No crowds, No pollution.

During your tour, paddle quietly along through the blue waters of the extinct volcanic crater and listen as your guide points out places of interest and any wildlife that you come across. After approximately one hour, stop for a 15-minute break on a remote beach and enjoy free time to swim or rest your arms!

Replenish lost energy with a light snack, then paddle onward as your guide shares stories from the region’s colorful past. As you explore, admire panoramic views and your guide will be taking on water photos for you If you wish to take home a memory of your day.
When your kayak adventure comes to an end, paddle your kayak back to base — an easy 10-minute walk from the wharf through he boutique shops and cafes leads you back to the main wharf. Safe and dry!

Sounds just like the conditions we had about 2 weeks ago. We were fine - plenty of layers on and yes, the kayaks have skirts so we didn't get wet. I would still go for it!
