Good old girl!
We did a return trip on the Kaitaki. One way the sea was calm and beautiful, the other not so much. Overall we found the ferry and its staff great in both directions.

Nice facilities and decent food at the cafe. Chairs are pretty standard but there was always somewhere to sit, even in Level 2.

One thing that I’d like to see is some seating (if possible) on Deck 7 or some other outside areas. On our return leg, Deck 10 was closed which meant all those feeling sick were directed to Deck 7 which is tiny, with no seating and also an area for those smoking. I spent a good part of the trip with two sick kids and would have really appreciated somewhere to sit or some shelter.

Load on and off times were super slow coming from Pic > Wel but from Wel > Pic they were fine.

Overall a good ferry with great staff.

Awesome people and service
Despite covid level 2 , the staff were awesome, especially Rowena ( she definitely went the extra mile to the end of the trip ) and the captain who made the trip particularly memorable for our 12 yr old son Josh. Thankyou for making it a very special memory for our family. A special Thankyou also to the staff in Picton on thur 9th ( evening shift) who sorted out our rather large booking mistake ! Much appreciated! Lovely people with a common sense approach- top marks will be travelling this way again .

Nice, but why are there screens in the play area
Aug 2021 • Family
Uggghh! The kids were playing so nicely in the playground area and making friends with other kids when a staff member came over and turned on the tv and then all the kids stopped moving and stared at the screen like zombies. Why even is there a tv in a playground???

Kia Ora Chris, Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry to hear you don't like the idea of televisions in the kids area. It's there as an option, especially when it may be too rough for the play area to operate. Hope you had a great sailing none the less. Best Wishes, Karen | The Great Journeys of New Zealand

So disappointed
Jul 2021 • Couples
We just did a trip to the South Island and we’ve just returned using this big ship as my source of transport. Now let me tell you. I have never been fond of this ship and my experiences in the last 2 weeks have confirmed why. We were due to depart Wellington at 3:15pm, this then got pushed to 4pm, then 5pm then 6pm oh and then finally 7pm, we arrived in Picton at 10:30pm and we’re supposed to drive to Christchurch but had to pay for another motel in Picton and stay and waste our air bnb booking (no refund). Then upon our return, same thing again, ferry was supposed to be at 2:15pm, then it became 3:15pm, then we didn’t actually leave until 4:30pm. Smooth sailing however we get to Wellington harbour and now we have to stay in the harbour for 30 minutes due to another boat being at the dock. It’s just been issue after issue on this ferry, it’s so frustrating when you book a family holiday and there’s constantly issues and delays like this, not just one way, but both. So disappointed in the way the Interislander handles this too, we got a punnet of hot chips as compensation. We don’t want hot chips, we want to be on time so our future plans fit in and it doesn’t cost us even more
Money. Never sailing on this ferry again. Fly and hire a car instead, will probably cost you less with the amount of delays you get on this thing.

Kia Ora Morgan, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on your recent sailings – we do appreciate the time it takes to write them. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused to you as a result of your sailings being delayed. I can’t see what dates you’ve travelled so unable to give you an exact reason for your delayed sailing, but we do apologise for this. Delays are not a normal occurrence for us but sometimes they can occur and we do our best to communicate with passengers regarding these delays. Depending on our timetable if we do have a delayed sailing it may take some time for us to get back on schedule. I hope the rest of your family holiday was a more positive experience. A great trip
May 2021
It was pretty rough in Cook Strait - something that happens sometimes. I was fine and the staff were great with the others who weren't. We were delayed when they decided we could not berth without a tug so we were 30 minutes late but we were kept informed. The staff were well organised and helpful.

Kia Ora Angewills, Thank you for taking the time provide us with your feedback - it is much appreciated! We are sorry to hear of your experience with the cabins. Cabins should be available for the majority of the sailing. Our crew will call you 30 minutes before arriving to vacate the Cabin – this is listed on our website. This allows the crew to clean the cabin thoroughly before the next sailing. I will feedback your comments to the team regarding having to leave 1-hour prior.
