Full-Day Guided Sea Kayak Trip from Picton

Overview
Spend your day sea kayaking around Queen Charlotte Sound on a guided excursion from Picton. Paddle across the harbor and stop for morning tea at a remote beach, then continue into the Grove Arm of the sound and enjoy lunch in a tranquil bay. Keep an eye out for cormorants and other wildlife as you listen to expert commentary about the Marlborough Sounds from the guide.
What to Expect
Meet your guide at our base on the Picton waterfront at 8.45am. After a quick safety briefing and form filling exercise, you launch from the Picton foreshore.
Paddling up the eastern foreshore of the harbour, you will quickly become familiar with the rhythm of sea kayaking. As you make your way into the Grove Arm of the Queen Charlotte Sound, you will pass bush clad shorelines that dominate the area.

After an hour or so of relaxed paddling, it is time for morning tea on a secluded sandy beach.

Feeling refreshed and invigorated, it is time to paddle across the Sound to the pristine shorelines of the western foreshore of the Grove Arm. Your guide enjoys sharing the fascinating history, wildlife and Maori legends of the area. We stop for lunch at one of the local bays, enjoying the peace and tranquility of this remote location.

After lunch head down towards Anakiwa and home to the Outward Bound school, paddling past nesting cormorants and maybe a seal or two.

Your day ends at Ngakuta Bay where you board a van for a 15 minute ride back to Picton.

guides were a blast!

zillions of non-stinging jellyfish and seeing all kinds of fish and birds- this 1/2 day tour with Ralph and Eric was so fun and amazing! Go! Easy peasy, too, for these middle aged friends.

Sun, fun and a kayak (Picton)

Never having kayaked before and the prospect of a half day outing before us, well I wondered if I'd be bailing out at the first bay ... But, our guide was very confident (Ralph) and the magic of the Sounds was all that was needed...More

These guys really looked after us. Safety was paramount. We rented the kayaks for half a day and when we arrived the weather was looking a little shaky so they sent us to a secluded bay where we were completely sheltered then picked us up...More

We did a half-day kayak trip on the sound, guided by Lars. He did an excellent job of leading the excursion, from explaining the proper kayaking techniques, to introducing us to the native wildlife, to having great answers to all of our questions. He also...More
