Highlights
Full-day excursion for outdoor adventurers in Picton
Explore Queen Charlotte Sound plus the Queen Charlotte Track
Paddle out and ride a convenient water taxi back
Hike independently from Anakiwa to Mistletoe Bay
What to expect
Upon arrival at your departure location on the Picton Waterfront you will receive a detailed safety briefing before setting off on your full day kayak and walking tour.  Your combo begins with a guided sea kayak tour in what is truly some of the best paddling in the Marlborough Sounds in the western arm of Queen Charlotte Sound. Within a short time you are exploring the shoreline, spotting wildlife and sea birds and learning about your surroundings. Your kayak tour concludes a few hours later at the small settlement of Anakiwa. Here you can don your tramping boots and backpack, get some instructions for the walk ahead and depart on your independent hike of the Queen Charlotte Track from Anakiwa to Mistletoe Bay. This section of the track passes through some of the nicest bush of the entire 70km track. The walk is around 3-4 hours (11km) of a moderate level. On your walk you can expect to see incredible Views, bush and beautiful beaches. At the conclusion of the Queen Charlotte Track, you walk down to Mistletoe Bay in time for collection by a water taxi at 4pm to return to Picton. An enjoyable boat ride with fantastic views back towards where you have spent your day.

My husband and I booked a 2 day tramp and 1 day kayak. The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone who has a sense of adventure. Very well organized and the pack lunches were great.

Highlight of the trip!
Nov 2019
We spent three weeks in New Zealand and the kayak and hike of Queen Charlotte was one of our favorite activities. Jack, our guide on the kayak, was a great instructor and a knowledgeable guide. The walk was absolutely stunning, with a stop for a delicious packed lunch at the overlook. WOW!

An Amazing Day
Feb 2019 • Couples
We did the full-day Kayak and walking tour from Picton in early February. It was a fantastic day. Jake, our guide on the Kayak portion of the day was terrific. He knew a lot about the wild life, giving us a close up view of a number of birds and some very large stingrays. The kayaking was very pleasant and laid back
The hiking portion of the day was beautiful. The lunch that was provided was very good. Even though there was ample time to get to Mistletow bay, the pick-up point, at the end of the day, we spent too much time eating our lunch, saying goodbye to Jake, taking pictures and just taking our sweet time. Because of our slow pace we had to run the last kilometer, getting to the boat with 3 minutes to spare. The trail is not well marked so it was difficult to judge where you are in relation to the pickup point. My overall review was that it was a perfect day and I would do it again in a heartbeat

Magnificent walking in Queen Charlotte Sounds
Nov 2018 • Friends
Four of us 60+ women did the five day QCS walk (with day 4 a rest day) and loved it! Wilderness Guides staff were wonderful - they responded be to every inquiry from the beginning, giving clear information and reassurance. They sorted all the complex dietary needs of our group. I recommend them as a well organised local company. (Mary)

Nice walk, very good arranged
Oct 2018 • Friends
Unfortunately, we had a very windy day with huge waves. Still we had a slight chance to do the kayaking part, so we dressed up, listened to our safety briefing, got into our kayak and started to paddle. We struggled with the waves and with the wind, but we very hoping as we get closer to the other side it will be calmer. But finally our guide decided it was too dangerous, so we returned. :( He behaved very professional and we felt safe all the time.
To use extra time we took a longer walk and on the beginning of the walk our kayak guide gave us a guided tour and he explained a lot about the nature, the history, so it was pretty interesting. When we arrived to our planned landing beach he returned and we finished the walk on our own. We were given a small bag with some good food for the rest of the day.
It is a really beautiful walk, and it is fairly easy, so we enjoyed it very much. At the end of the walk the boat was waiting for us. It is also a nice boat ride to get back to Picton.
We also received a fair refund for the kayak parts.
In general it was a very nice day. Really enjoyed it, so I would recommend it to everybody.

Professional guides, worth every penny
Apr 2018 • Couples
We actually did the full Queen Charlotte Track tour over 4 days where Wilderness Guides booked our stays, taxis and provided a full briefing before we set off self-guided. The water taxi out includes some entertaining commentary from the skipper on a large comfortable cruiser which dropped us at Ship Cove.

Nothing is too much trouble for these guys, we had to modify our trip and they sorted things out seamlessly.

Highly recommended.
