What to expect
Make your way to the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Capitol Hill for a late-morning departure time of 11am. No need to plan logistics or map routes yourself: After a pleasant 30-minute bus ride out of the city, arrive at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s former estate that overlooks the Potomac River. Tour the mansion and museum with your guide, who regales the group with little-known facts and stories about Washington’s life and legacy. After lunch in Mount Vernon (own expense), hop back on the bus for a guided tour of Old Town Alexandria. The guide points out landmarks you may have missed on your own, including a tavern where the Founding Fathers used to meet and the infamous 7-foot-wide Spite House. Convieniant to get there, but take the earlier time.
My sister and I chose this company by TA recommendation. Dr. Ali was our driver. It took some time to load and leave. The short bus we used was filthy with empty soda bottles rolling around.

I don't know if it was the roads or the lack of good shocks, but the ride was extremely rough. Several of us called out going over particularly large bumps.

He narrated along the drive but it was very difficult to hear him with the loud AC and his accent.

We did not get on the grounds until 3:30 with our tour of the main house at 4. This left us 30 minutes to wander about by ourselves. However, the docent would not allow us to enter until our full party was there and let other groups in before us. I don't think we got into the house until 4:15. One of the docents in there was extremely rude to a member of our party who did not speak English.

We did not realize they closed at 5, so we missed seeing the remainder of the grounds as they directed is to exit the area.

He was nice enough to drop some off us off in old town Alexandria to grab dinner. He was very expressive that this meant we find our own way back, which we were aware of.

Not a bad way of getting there, but choose the earlier tour.

Get house tour tickets, even it online it says they are sold out-it is not true!
Apr 2021
Make sure you ask for house tour tickets before you go in...We bought everything online ahead of time. At the time, it said all the house tour tickets were sold out. When we approached the house, we were told that there were plenty of tickets-we just needed to go back to the entry. WIth 7 people in our group, this was not possible. We were sad to miss the house tour when it was available, even though the site said it was sold out.

Regardless, it was a FABULOUS day and visit.

The grounds are beautiful. But I was very disappointed in the tour of the house. Due to Covid you could only tour bottom floor of the house which was 4 rooms. But still charged full price for tour.

Great Day in the Morning (and afternoon)!
Oct 2020 • Friends
From the moment we were picked up by our driver / guide Bobby D of City Tours by Loba, we knew we were in for a great tour. As we passed through DC, Bobby described the sights all around us. At our request, he even detoured to give ya the opportunity to see the BLM sign painted on the street. It was a #1 wish of mine to take some photos there so thanks Bobby! En route to Mt Vernon, we passed through Alexandria and learned about its history and architecture. Once at Mt Vernon, he guided us into onto the historic site and prepped us for that experience. We had ‘a 3 hr tour’ which was amazing. Bobby returned ya to our hotel as another sign of his great service. Great Day !!

Good way to get to and from Mount Vernon.
Oct 2020
Joe and Bobby were my drivers and they were informative and friendly. Note that the Mount Vernon tour is self-guided, the drivers won't accompany you after you are dropped off. They pick you up in the same spot 3 hours later. To go into the house, your timed ticket does include a guided portion from the venue's staff. Ticket is provided by Loba Tours.
If you don't have a car, this is a cost effective option.

Surprised at Tour
Feb 2020
While we were expecting a totally guided tour & we did not get it, it was a nice experience. Our driver gave background conversation on the wat, very good, dropped us at the entrance and picked us up 3 hours later. I wondered what we could do for 3 hours, but that was no problem. There is plenty to do.
The tour of Old Alexandria was similar, background and dropped us at Christ Church where we walked in & caught a guide so was very good.
Overall, a good experience.

Disappointed!
Feb 2020
Mount Vernon and Old Alexandria are fantastic places. Unfortunately , the tour started approximately 30 minutes late, the mansion was closed due to annual maintenance as well as the food court, the visit to Old Alexandria was from the van and the driver was not receptive at the moment of our complaints.
The tour guide/driver," resolved the situation" giving us back $7.00 per person from a ticket that cost $80, because of the inconvenience!
Again, the places are beautiful but the tour operator sold us something that obviously we didn't get!

Charles was an amazing tour guide on my trip to Mount Vernon. Right from the moment I boarded the bus I felt welcome and Charles told us about the history of George Washington and Mount Vernon. The trip to Alexandria was very informative as well. I highly recommend this tour.
