Itinerary
- 1One of our favorite spots in the island, Carambola Gardens, is a paradise in itself. Decades of hard work and dedication have gone into these lush botanical gardens filled with exotic plants and beautiful animals like hummingbirds and Agouti rabbits. Carambola Botanical Gardens provide protection for iguanas at the iguana wall and natural breeding grounds for parrots. Have you ever seen the Cacao Tree before? The tree where chocolate comes from? There's hundreds of them at Carambola Botanical Gardens! You can also see the Honduran mahogany tree and the cannonball tree (You gotta check it out!)! At Carambola, bridges connect walkways that lead the visitor through areas of flowering plants, ferns, fruit and nut trees such as cashews, soursop and carambola (star fruit). Hardwoods include Spanish cedar, Ceak, Cordia, and Carreto. Among the natives you will find Hog Plum, Gumbo-limbo (the naked Indian/tourist tree), Trumpet tree, Teta, and Masica to name a few. The palm selection consists of Royal, Fishtail, Areca, Phoenix, Pindo, Fan Date, Chamaedorea, Veitchia and the Majestic Norfolk pine that command the gardens. Magnificent Royal Poincianas await you at the main entrance.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- M3509NJrachelp0 contributions5 stars isn't high enough! We had an awesome time! Patrice was a great guide. First time snorkeling for 3 of our party of 4 and they were super patient with our very nervous 6 year old. Would definitely recommend!!Written 1 December 2024
- 214kyungl0 contributionsA fantastic Experience. Book Now!Our family of 6 had a fantastic time snorkeling and going on a zoo tour with Mario. The whole day was unforgettable. Our family included 7 and 10 year olds, and two grandmas, one of whom has a heart condition. Finding Mario was a breeze once we got off the cruise. He took us to the zoo in a van where we got to hold a bunch of animals, including a sloth, monkeys, toucans, etc. We spent about 60-90 min there. Once we arrived at the beach, the boat ride to the snorkeling spot was only about 5 min. We chose Blue Channel and The Aquarium. Mario was kind and patient with grandmas and kids. The water was calm, it was not crowded with other boats, the coral reefs were abundant, and there was a ton of colorful fish who swam with us. The best part of the experience was, Mario had a Go Pro camera and took pictures of us under the water, which we received a few days later. We haven't stopped looking at those pix. I think for everyone, the day with Mario was the best part of our 8 day cruise. A huge thanks to Dani, the owner of the company, for pretty much everything, including top-notch communication and sending emails/texts to ensure we will have a nice day. At the end the day, the grandma professed her love to Mario and everyone lived happily ever after.Written 11 November 2024
- robertsU172CM0 contributionsAmazing snorkeling in Roatan HondurasHad an awesome day while in port on the Wonder of the Seas. Dani from RTGA reached out to us as soon as we booked to make sure we had all the specifics we needed to make sure we met up with them okay when we got into the port. I’m not sure if it always works out this way but we had a personal tour guide all day from the time we left the port to the time we got back to the ship. Patrice did an amazing job guiding us through the reef at each site and pointing out some cool fish/sea creatures. We have snorkeled in some pretty amazing places before and this was definitely at the top of the list. Reef was beautiful and many colorful fish…some we had not seen before. After a couple hours snorkeling, Patrice showed us around the West End a bit then went over to West Bay beach. He recommended a great restaurant and we then just relaxed in the Paradise Beach Hotel in West Bay until we were ready to go back to the ship. Would 100% do this trip again if in the area. Highly recommend if you like to do some serious snorkeling.Written 10 November 2024
- DirtyJoe10 contributionsFantastic excursion, amazing guidesWe were picked by Mario for our trip. He was just great. We had a great ride over as he told different things about the islands. Our friends did the zip line for the first time and had a blast. For us the best part was the monkeys and sloths. The guides were fantastic, keeping us all engaged and laughing, having an amazing time with them and the animals. I would definitely recommend Mayan Eden for a great excursion you’ll definitely love.Written 7 November 2024
- 959kaylih0 contributionsAmazing, fun, great exploring and relaxingRTGA was amazing! The instructions and communication for meeting/pickup point were clear and easy to follow. We enjoyed our time exploring the city and seeing local spots to enjoy. It was an amazing time and if we find ourselves back in Roatan we’ll be booking with RTGA!Written 7 November 2024
- Meander071810485810 contributionsGreat experience…we were able to hold a sloth!!The tour was awesome, Mario our tour guide was great. He was very informative, and went above to accommodate our requests. Thank you guys for a great time! Will work with them again when we go back to Roatan.Written 24 October 2024
- jackhG5971SN0 contributionsRTGA Spells Integrity and Concern for Your Safety and EnjoymentThis will be a different type of review but one you should take into consideration when choosing a tour in Roatan. My wife and I were picked up by tour guide Mario and we headed for the West End for a couple hours of snorkeling. It was two days after Hurricane Milton had passed the Yucatan Peninsula and the Caribbean was rough and there were heavy currents. Additionally, there was trash and debris in the water on the north side of the island of Roatan that posed a problem for boat propellers and snorkelers. Dani, the owner of Roatan Tour Guide Associate (RTGA) called Mario while we were traveling to the West End and had Mario put him speaker-phone to inform us. He felt the snorkeling trip would be a bad idea, dangerous due to currents, hazardous to navigation to the reef, and not present a worthy day for snorkeling at the world's second largest coral reef. He offered to have Mario take us to an alternate area on the south side of Roatan but we declined and Daniel (Dani) immediately refunded our money and apologized for things that were totally out of his control. In short, it is the integrity of Dani, founder of RTGA, and the enthusiasm of snorkeling guide Mario that will ensure you have a safe and memorable snorkeling tour. We were profoundly impressed with Dani, Mario, and their concern for our safety. When some tours will operate no matter what, our experience showed us that you will be in great and professional hands with RTGA. We will return to Roatan and you can be sure we will re-book with this wonderful tour business.Written 15 October 2024
- Roving642474661120 contributionsAmazing experience! What an excellent snorkeling experience on this trip! Fantastic operator - we were able to easily book with very short notice, had excellent and instant communication, and received all the necessary details upfront! The crew was absolutely amazing - our guide, Mario, and our captain, Reyes! They were able to pick us up and drop us off directly at the dock at our resort, and they were extremely attentive, passionate and enthusiastic. We did the 3-spot snorkeling trip, and it was absolutely worth it. As an avid and frequent snorkeler in the Caribbean, I can confidently say that this was an amazing experience - absolutely beautiful! I would definitely book again and I highly recommend!Written 8 October 2024
- mollymU6910VM0 contributionsWonderful chocolate making classWe arranged this class with Dani. He made the process easy and even helped us arrange transportation to and from the Factory. There was a nice presentation about the history and process of making chocolate. Then we got to each make our own chocolate bars. He walked us through each step along the way, explaining the purpose of each step. Afterwards, we were able to sample all the varieties of chocolate that they make at the Factory. I would highly recommend this class, especially if you love dark chocolate.Written 25 September 2024

- gabriellabY7617BI0 contributionsMario was the best!Mario was the nicest tour guide! What I loved about this trip, is it felt like we literally rode through town with an actual local, and learned about the island! It felt like hanging out with a friend and not just someone you hired. He was very hospitable, fun and educated about the sea and the island. The tour itself was beautiful. I was excited that we actually got to some deep-ish waters and not just 7 feet snorkeling. The walk from the cruise port to RTGA was about 10 minutes but they gave such detailed instructions, we had no issue. However if you’re coming from a cruise make sure you have WiFi/service or else I wouldn’t have received the instructions the morning of. They also took some awesome pics of us! 100% book with them instead of an excursion with a cruise line, it was the highlight of my trip.Written 9 September 2024
- davidwT6861UJ0 contributionsGreat local feelMe and one friend booked the snorkeling excursion with RTGA(roatan tour guide association) and had a great time. Our tour guide Mario was very friendly and knowledgeable. He sent us very detailed instructions on how to get out of the port to the pickup area. He then picked us up right outside of the port and took us to West End. Along the way he told us quite a bit about the island and his time there. Once we arrived at west end we had our own boat ready to take us out to snorkel. Mario made sure all of our gear was functional and safe before hitting the water. He then lead us around the beautiful snorkeling locations all while taking photos to send to us afterwards. When we were done he was more than happy to show us the shops and food that the West End had to offer. We were not rushed whatsoever and got a locals perspective on everything they had to offer. Once we were done checking out shops he also returned us to the port. The entire experience was amazing. Definitely better than anything I have booked through a cruise/all inclusive in the past. He made us feel like we were the number one priority and was such a great guy. I cannot recommend Mario and RTGA enough. If you are in Roatan, definitely check out their snorkeling package or one of their many other packages.Written 7 September 2024
- A9992JZsamanthaa0 contributionsAmazingThis tour is definitely worth it! Dani and Mario made our time in Roatan amazing and definitely made me want to go back. They were punctual with their timing and made sure we were comfortable all day.Written 5 September 2024
- L4748ZJlexis0 contributionsBest Snorkeling in the WORLD!!RTGA and Dani took our family on the best snorkeling trip we’ve ever had, even better than the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. He is so knowledgeable and nice, it is absolutely worth your time and money to book with RTGA. They exceeded our expectations!Written 24 August 2024
- carmenbZ412KE0 contributionsAmazing Snorkeling Adventure - Puts Others to ShameMy family and I recently went on an incredible snorkeling tour with Mario in the West End of Roatan, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip! Mario took us to two amazing spots: the Blue Channel and the Aquarium. Both locations were stunning, with vibrant coral reefs and an abundance of colorful fish that put other snorkeling tours we'd done to shame. The underwater scenery was breathtaking, showcasing the beauty of the second-largest barrier reef in the world. What made this tour even more special was that it was completely private. This meant we could explore at our own pace without worrying about keeping up with a group. Mario was an excellent guide, and his knowledge of the local marine life made the experience even more enriching. Don't let the fact that you're not a strong swimmer, prevent you from doing this tour! I used a life jacket and snorkeling equipment provided by Mario, which made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the experience. You don't need to be an expert swimmer to enjoy the beauty of Roatan’s underwater world. If you're planning a trip to Roatan, I highly recommend spending part of your vacation exploring the island's vibrant marine life with Mario. You won't regret it!Written 23 August 2024
