Take the Hawaii Forest and Trail tour to the top of Mauna Kea. You will not be disappointed. The sunset was unforgettable and seeing the shooting stars afterwards, along with the glow from Kilauea which was a bonus. Do what they say in the notes, however; dress warmly as it is cold at the top and while watching the stars. I had tights and warm pants, a t-shirt, a sweater and a hoodie on, with socks and hiking shoes. I also took my own mitts (although they provide them along with a jacket). I was perfectly warm but others were shivering as they had incorrect footwear and thin pants. The experience is much better when you are warm. The meal provided was adequate, but a little small for my husband who is a big eater. We had taken extra snacks and that worked for him. The hot chocolate provided at the star gazing site was a great idea.

Jason is a great guide. He is professional, punctual, knowledgeable and fun to be around. We appreciated Jason’s enthusiasm for his job and his astronomy knowledge. It was a stunning sunset and a fun night with a bright beautiful moon and the stars

Guide Adam is worth “billions and billions of stars” rating (nod to Carl Sagan) for the excellent Mauna Kea visit. His focus on customer safety and comfort was exceptional. Adam has a friendly and engaging manner where his knowledge and passion shines through. He has the perfect instinct for knowing when to narrate/provide information, and when to be quiet, thus not falling into the trap of constant chattering. His skills and expertise made for a wonderful outing.

Amazing experience! Jason was extremely knowledgeable and fun. Would highly recommend this excursion. Standing on top of the world, above the clouds and watching the sun set (and finally witnessing the "green" flash) followed by stargazing truly was a unique adventure.

Our guide Jason gave us a lot of information on this tour and navigated the road to the top with ease. Not a road for the inexperienced. We especially liked the star gazing and learned a lot about astronomy. Highly recommend this tour to a totally atypical Hawaiian site.

We enjoyed out trip with Jeff. Although Mother Nature changed our plans for us and we were to able to get to the summit Jeff made our night by finding a remote spot and allowing for some amazing stargazing. He was both knowledgeable and accommodating to us. Fun night.

Fantastic tour! Our guide Adam was attuned to everyone's comfort and safety. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the island's history, geography, and ecology in addition to its night skies. It was too bad that we couldn't see the sunset from the summit, but the experience of getting snowed on in Hawaii made up for it.

I don't usually take tours because I generally prefer the flexibility of visiting sites on my own but I'm glad I took this one. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable and made the trip more fun. Jeff took very good care of us. He got us safely up the mountain and shared great knowledge about the star and the planets we saw up close in the telescope and even fed us hot soup, hot cocoa and cookies. It was a great adventure to stand on the summit, get close to the observatories, see the stars and planets and feel snow on my face in Hawaii. We made lots of good memories on this tour.

Adam is amazing! We booked our tour at the very last minute. Grabbed the last two seats for Saturday 18 December 2021. Adam is our tour guide. He is so knowledgeable. The picnic beef stew is very tasty. Adam looked after us through out the whole journey. We had the one of the best times in our life. Sun set and moon rise happening at the same time. Moonbow and shooting star is out of this world! Highly recommended and it is must do on the big island!
