    Fabulous farm to Table Experience!
Tiara was an amazing chef and teacher for this great class! We gathered fresh eggs and vegetables, along with flowers for a centerpiece. We learned so much and everything was delicious! Highly recommend!

    Must do Hawaiian Adventure!!!!!!!!!
THIS WAS AMAZING!!!!!! After arriving to the stunning property we were greeted by some of the staff at the inn made it seem like we’ve know each other forever. They and our guides had us sign some wavers. While we were doing that they got our shoe sizes and hooked us up with some rad water shoes to use. Next the guides helped us get into our harnesses getting them fitted to each of us. Last was our helmets. They took us on a short walk from the inn to the start of the course. Clipping into safety lines at the top a walking to our first rappel, there they demonstrated and taught us how to rappel. Once the entire group made it down the first rappel we walked a short distance to another safety line we were clipped into. Once that’s happening the Veiw of this epic green forest and a massive waterfall that as you get closer the view gets better and opens up more to the valley and water below! Smiling from ear to ear the whole time hooting and hollering at the joy of being next to this waterfall getting sprayed as we rappel down in the warm Hawaiian sun!!!! One of our guides took photos of us at the top of the waterfall and also after we all made it he got some really nice pictures of us too. Absolutely thrilling! It’s a must do. Five stars isn’t enough.

Nice Experience, Not Worth the Price
I came with my family of 4 adults. We were the only party, just us and our tour guide. Our tour guide took us up to check out the chickens and the farm. It was kind of sparse of harvestable items, perhaps because of time of year. Our guide was very new to the farm and very new to hawaii. So, she didn’t have a lot of knowledge to offer about the property or the farming processes. We went up to the barn where there are more fruit trees to pick from outside and the kitchen is on the top floor. Some ingredients we used were not actually from the Kulaniapia Farm but from a farmers market the day before. We made salsa, chips, tortillas, roasted vegetables, collard greens, and a limeade. Not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but a good humble kind of meal. This experience was nice but definitely not worth the price.

Initially fun, but serious safety concerns; profit over safety
I have serious concerns about safety for this experience. The actual repelling next to the waterfall was great, but by the time I got to the bottom and finished the experience, I felt that the company valued profit over personal safety. Pro: We did a short 25 foot warm-up repelling that was low stakes and a great way to get practice in with the gear/guide. The guides doublechecked our linkages, and I initially felt safe. Con: As the hike went on, my perception changed. When we started, the waterfall was borderline on dangerous for coming down. As the hike went on, the waterfall levels intensified. For individuals that had finished and were waiting by the banks, the guides did not allow us to swim in the water because it was too strong/dangerous. Yet, people were still rappelling down next to the too intense waterfall. Jeremy, one of the guides at the top, explained at all times I should have had a double belay system. If, for whatever reason, the line slipped from my hands, I would still be caught by the top or bottom belayer. Unfortunately, when I got near the bottom, the guide at the bottom tried to take pics of me and also be the safety belayer. The line was extra slick near the bottom and the rope line slipped from my hand. I dropped 3 feet, before saving myself/guide grabbed it too. I was less than a foot from seriously injuring/breaking my back on hard rocks. The safety belayer should not have been the photographer. The top belayer could not see me by the time I reached the bottom, and his line had too much slack as well. After the experience was done, and all of the individuals had safely repelled, I talked with Eric , the owner of the company, and shared some of my concerns about the lack and judgment with a belayer being also the photographer. Instead of recognizing his lack of judgment in worsening conditions, he doubled-down and blamed me for the almost near catastrophic accident. I am a novice rock climber and belayer; I should’ve been able to depend on the guides to catch me when my hand accidentally slipped.

Accommodate all ages. Training and practice for the Novice and enjoyable for the Experienced.
Three generation family holiday. We (grand parents) were able to take photos from a great vista of the parents and grand children doing the waterfall rappelling. Videos from top to bottom! Guides did a terrific job gearing the family with all the equipment necessary to assure a safe experience.

    Wonderful time on the farm
Absolutely wonderful morning touring the farm and making a delicious meal with the Kulaniapia Community! Going through the process of taking ingredients strait from the ground and following the entire process makes you appreciate a meal so much more. Aiden and David also do a great job and really help add to the experience

    Who should be rappelling?
We had.a good time over all. However the company/hotel was not very accurate in the information before hand. It was painfully obvious they did not want to take myself and husband out. We are in our early 60s and not in good shape. They made us feel very inadequate and guilty for not being thinner and more fit. It was pouring rain and the conditions were difficult. The information about the rappelling indicates no experience necessary, you just have to be over 10. There is no weight requirement given. Considering what they say the requirements are, virtually none, and the weather conditions they should not have taken us out. The rain had caused a ton of mud and I believe it was quite dangerous. All being said we did have a good experience and felt a sense of accomplishment when we had finished the event.

Hard Pass. One star just for the waterfall.
Wouldn’t recommend spending the nite- perhaps a day trip, but call before you go to make sure the waterfall isn’t raging, otherwise you cannot swim. The place was disorganized, breakfast served on a filthy covered patio, cobwebs and bugs covering light fixtures hanging over the tables…felt like a summer kids camp that no one has cleaned in months, the area down by the waterfall was worse…trash for days. Room was musty, torn screens and we had just two rusty lawn chairs for a unit that slept 4. We originally booked a room that slept 3 and requested the $50 extra twin. They called us 72 hours prior to check in and informed that the website was an Error and we would have to be moved to the ‘Pagoda House’ for $850 for one nite…not realizing that this was the final weekend for the Merrie Monarch, lodging elsewhere was not readily available. It was the one and only ‘bad’ experience we had during our 10 day trip to visit family.

    Dinner by the falls
Sitting by the falls, eating locally grown foods prepared by chef Rachel was the highlight of our visit. She has a knack for combining spices to make the most of each course. I especially enjoyed the soup course and the salad which was unlike any beet salad I ever had. And, she has a friend who is a gourmet baker. Save room and if you are lucky, she might be serving flourless chocolate cake when you visit.

    Enjoyable unique experience
The farm tour was very interesting and informative. It was fun getting to select fresh items from the farm to cook in the cooking class. Our guide Ayden was enthusiastic about all of it which made it enjoyable. We were able to participate in the cooking at each step and enjoyed the lunch we prepared. The small size of the group was also appreciated. Would definitely recommend this if you are looking for something different to experience.

The 4 hour round trip from Kona is worth the $69.00 fee. The first 25 miles is a scenic view where you can see where lava once flowed. Once you hang a right, it’s 50 miles of boredom. Up the mountain, down the mountain until you come into Hilo.

As you maneuver through town, you’ll come upon 4+ miles of a tight single road back up into the mountain, albeit at 15mph.

Eventually, you’ll come to a gate, punch in the code given to you and pleasantly greeted by (Rachel).

There are 2 ways down to the waterfall. The rocky way or the longer way through the beautiful grounds (which I recommend, as it’s so much easier)

Pictures don’t do the waterfall justice. It is GORGEOUS. Space is limited so they don’t allow just anyone. There were 3 other couples there at 1:00 on a Sunday

There’s kayak rentals (if you want to get closer to the waterfall) It can be a bit rocky getting into the water so I recommend beach shoes.

It is paradise. Tranquil, clean. The water is a bit chillier than the ocean but you get used to it.

If you’re going to ask somebody to marry you, this would be a great place to do it.

Please make sure to fill out all the necessary paperwork ahead of time so you’re not wasting your time once you get there, as the timeslots are limited

Bring your own cooler for drinks and snacks. They have exceptionally clean bathrooms there.

Take the time to walk the grounds. There are two additional waterfalls below, great for taking pictures, complete with Buddha and amazing bamboo and landscapes for fantastic photographs

Kulaniapia Falls was an awesome experience! The hosts were knowledgeable and very friendly. They even let us eat our picnic lunch at their tables while it was raining. So kind.

Bring water shoes or something you can wash off as you’ll likely get them muddy. The water is cold so be prepared for that. It’s not unbearably cold but it’s cold. I highly recommend getting a kayak or paddle board. We rented a 2 person kayak for an hour for 4 people. Totally worth it.

This was the most Beautiful, Amazing Place we visited while on the Bug Island!! The innkeeper was so pleasant and the whole property was so inviting. We rented a 2 person Kayak for an hour but felt that we would have just needed a half hour but everything was so perfect! I would definitely recommend going to these falls if you are visiting on the big island, it is life changing😍😍😍oh and I have an ankle replacement and have a handicap and it was an easy enough walk down that I could do it if just fine.

Hated this place they tell after you pay that there are no refunds and if it rains you can't do anything. Basically a scam, which consists of promising you a fun time and then not telling you half the time it's unusuable. Go somewhere else this place was awful in every possible way!!

We had a lot of fun! We had the place to ourselves, so that was pretty awesome. The rain made the trail back a little muddy and slippery, so that was a little rough. But overall, we enjoyed the trail, we enjoyed the kayak and the paddle boards, and felt it was worth the money. From hiking down, to hiking back up with some fun in between, we were done in a little over an hour and a half. We probably could’ve spent more time in the water if it wasn’t for the rain.

This was such a great experience! We brought our 3 kids and they had so much fun kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming. Complimentary life jackets are given so that everyone can swim around the 50 ft waters easily. The waterfall was beautiful. The whole area felt like we were in a movie. The best part is that it wasn’t crowded at all… only 27 of us at one point, and then the crowd dwindled down to just two families. Overall we had a blast! I definitely recommend this excursion.

This was an awesome experience! It was just my daughter and I and we had a really great time! Booking was easy and the communication was awesome! We chose the 10 o’clock start time for our time-slot, which was also a benefit to us because they offered a discount for the early start so that was really helpful and saving some money. Even if we had chosen a different time slot, it was still worth paying to come to this private waterfall. They offer time slots to limit the number of people that are there at one time, which is nice because there’s no overcrowding or fighting for parking. Also, the drive up to the facility was a really nice drive. It was basically a road only big enough for one car so it’s good that they create time-slots like they do, very smart on their part. Even when there was someone coming towards us while we were driving up or driving down, we both either drove a little off to the side off the road so we could pass or one of us would pull over let the other pass and then continue on our way so it was a non-issue. The lady who greeted us and checked us in, was so very kind and helpful. We were able to bring our own food, and our own float devices. You are allotted a five hour time-slot and we use three of our five hours and really enjoyed our time there. We took the longer path down to the waterfalls because we like to walk and see the scenery and read the little placards with plant information, That’s our jam! They have plenty of seating along the path. They have a cute little lanai with couches and chairs for resting and looking over the beautiful scenery. They also have paddle boards and kayaks for rent, We brought our own little floats and just decided to swim, and that was great for us! And I was so impressed that they had lovely restroom facilities, equipped with showers for anyone to rinse off or clean off after they’ve been swimming and walking around and stuff! It was all just a lovely non-stressful experience! I highly recommend this!

Beautiful falls (we visited the main one; did realize or find the other 3)! This was our first trip to Hawaii and we only allocated one day to visit the Eastern side of the island - so we did quick "research" and found this waterfall recommendation. We did not visit any public access waterfalls, so I don't have a comparison to those.

We purchased the 5 hour day pass (family of 4), which ended up costing $195 (our 10 year old counts as an adult, which is weird). I would not pay that much again as it's overpriced in my opinion, but given our time constraint, it was nice to just have a place booked to visit. There were a few other families/groups visiting the falls when we there (maybe 9 other people) so it didn't feel crowded. We were able to swim out to the falls and my wife thoroughly enjoyed it. We did not rent the kayak or paddle boards, but they were available right on the water's edge.

The brief hike (10 minutes) to the falls was pleasant enough, but riddled with mosquitoes. The mosquitoes were pleasantly not around the waterfall at all! There was also fresh guava trees all along the trail so we tried fresh guava - which the kids loved.

Overall, we visited about 2.5 hours as we ate our lunch after the falls. The waterfall was beautiful and the experience was nice, but I wouldn't pay that much again. I'd pay around $80-100 for a family of four.

This was a really cool experience. The falls and the pond are beautiful but the walking traisl aroudn the proporty and near the falls were enjoyable as well and it was a very reasonable rate. As a Travel agency owner I really recommend inclouding an overnight stay at one of the properties cottages.

Wonderful! Our kids loved watching us rappel while they swam and kayaked. The waterfall was gorgeous and huge. It wasn’t a super steep vertical rappel though- so it was fun for those who have rappelled before and also would be fun for kids or anyone nervous. The best part was getting to swim under the waterfall! Gorgeous
