What a great app! From the beginning to the end. We spent about 13 hours driving/walking and we listened to the guide all the time without getting bored. It’s like the guide was anticipating the questions we would ask and answering them at the perfect time. Suggestions on timing, what is must see and what can be skipped, planning tips, and relaxing music in between. Great overall experience. Thank you!

First let me start by saying that I gave Shaka Guide a mediocre rating because I've had good service in the past. Recently however, in November 2024 my husband and I planned what was to be a very exciting trip...we were going to explore the national parks of Utah. I started buying the tour downloads early, so I'd have it all done by the date we arrived. We flew into Las Vegas and headed toward Utah; we'd wanted to do this for years. I had been talking it up, bragging if you will, that I had Shaka Guide tours for the parks just like we'd done in other national parks around the US. I opened the app in our room, the night before we were to arrive in Zion National Park. The app opened, I saw my tours, then the app closed automatically, and I had to reopen it. When I signed in, my tours were gone. No worries, right? Just reload the tours, there is a button for it after all. Nope, it wouldn't even consider it. The website showed all the tours I'd purchased...too bad I couldn't listen on the website I suppose. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. Nope, the app opened my account, but tours weren't there. But still I figured I'd just contact customer service, and they would save the day. I explained what happened and asked that they contact me ASAP as I needed one of the tours the following day. Well, let me tell you what the great Shaka suggestion was to get my tours back. "When you open the app, you'll need to log in with the same user ID that you used to buy the tours." UUUmmmm, you don't say! You'd assume that might have said, be sure you are logged in correctly, then try this or that. No, that was the entire bit of help I received. I replied that I really needed help, not an insult to my intelligence. I'm logged in, I cannot reload my apps...they show on the web, can you help? Help never came. We completed our tours of the Utah National Parks and had a wonderful time. We didn't allow this to ruin the trip. So, for those of you out there who use this app, as I did before, check and recheck. Be sure your stuff is there well in advance. My money is spent, the website still shows my purchases, but the app, well it isn't interested in me at all. I uninstalled the app; I understand that Trip Advisor has guided audio tours too!

Wow! I couldn’t recommend this guide more! People get weird sometimes about paying for apps, but if you’ve come all the way to Maui and want to do the Road to Hāna, $20 is a very small price to exponentially improve your trip. I love that it follows you along your trip and directs you to things that you otherwise wouldn’t do. The stories were interesting and informative and the music set a great vibe for the trip. Don’t do the Road to Hāna without this app. You’ll be missing out if you do.

We spent a week on Kauai and did three of the four Shaka driving tours. We’ve used the app in Maui before and really enjoyed the tours, narration and secret spots. We would have never stopped at some of these hidden gems without the guide. It was and continues to continues to be our go to travel app when available.

What an outstanding guide! We were so fortunate to find this online just before we began our drive. It is easy to use and follow at your own pace. This entertaining audio also eliminated the need to use a guide book in a moving car on a very winding road. We appreciated the advice on where to stop and what to avoid. Thank you Shaka guide - you made our drive memorable. Five stars all the way!!!!!!

This app is a joke. App didn't work so we connected with support who told us to uninstall and reinstall app promising we wouldn't have to pay again. Guess what? We are being asked to pay again. Will never use or recommend Shaka.

My husband and I downloaded this for the Road to Hana during our Honeymoon, and we highly recommend it! There are so many twists/turns/stops to make. I don't know what we would have done without it. We couldn't make all the stops, so we loved how it would say it was a "must-see" or an "if you have extra time" stop.

We did the Shaka Guide of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and it was fantastic!! I can’t even count the number of times we commented during the day about how much we loved the stories, the tips, the advice. As a travel blogger, I use a lot of guides and I have almost never been this excited about something - I want to tell everyone I know. We would never have known the legend & lore, the fun stories that we heard from just exploring on our own or from NPS literature. It made the road trip through the park so enjoyable. Plus, the advice on which stops to skip, which to save for the reverse drive, etc. So incredibly helpful. I will use this on all future road trips where available.

We were so thankful that our car rental service (White Glove Car Rental) recommended this app for us to use on our drive on the road to Hana. It was our own personal tour guide while playing great music, telling great history and legends and letting us know all the great stops. We had to purchase the other trips it had as well and missed it when we weren't using it. Make sure you download the app and the tour your taking before heading out so that you don't have any problems when you lose service. I can't wait to use this app on the mainland as we used it multiple times in Hawaii on different islands.

Trip there - excellent. Return trip would not work. And there really wasn’t a good way to have checked that before going. And the suggestions to fix it within the app are not helpful when you are on the side of a mountain with no signal in Hawaii. That’s why I looked for a tour app that could be pre-downloaded. So I only got half the trip and was very frustrated to keep listening to the same song over and over trying to get it to work. And some info is outdated and stops suggested are now no parking allowed or no parking due to changes in the road. Needs to be more respectful and recognize native Hawaii culture.

We first fell in love with Shaka Guide in Hawaii! We were very excited to find they now had tours in the Smokey Mountains. Before purchasing I read the long list of other tours out west so I bought the entire collection. I haven’t been out west yet but plan to do so. The guide is very intuitive and knows exactly where you are at all times using gps, so gives instructions in real time, like turning in to outlooks or parking areas. Tips and stories about what you will see and about the area you’re visiting make the experience more personal. The narrator is personable and entertaining too! Personally I would plan my next vacation based on whether they have an audio tour available. Love Shaka Guide! More than worth every penny!

The Shaka Guide is very good and informative. I appreciate that it’s GPS sensitive so that it knows where you are on the trip. I also enjoyed the Hawaiian music that accompanies the trip!

I had heard many things about these audio tours so I wanted to order it for the road to Hana for my 9 and 11 year old. This was really a tour that was enjoyed but the whole family, which included stops of interest, great music and historical facts. We learned so much on the trip and even stopped at areas of interest that we wouldn't have known if we didn't get this audio tour (like the free lava tube at the side of the road, or the very first part of the tour where the whole beach was full of sunbathing turtles (we had thought they were rocks)). I liked that that tour followed you by GPS so you didn't have to worry about if you missed something or let you know what was coming up on the next stop if you were looking for something in particular (like a bathroom or a smoothie). It was great learning about the history of Hana and the royal clashes, something we would have not known just by driving through. We loved that we could also do the tour backwards on the way back out. We highly recommend this tour for your road to Hana!

Great tour and guides you, yes all the way!! Start as early as you can, to do as much as you can in a day or take it slow and stop to rest and stay a night some where, there’s much to see. You could go toward the end of the tour and come back and see all the stops. Take the advice from Shaka Guy and enjoy the most of this trip depending on where or when you start the tour. Make sure you first investigate every stop to see if you going to need a reservation for a park entrance or know in advance every stop to chose the ones got your attention.

We wanted to do the road to Hana, but in the comfort of our own car and to pick and choose what we wanted to see. My son finds typical tours boring, and I really don't like to be around strangers. Not to mention I get car sick very easily and I can only imagine being in some tour bus would have not been enjoyable. Shaka Guide to Maui was perfect for us!!! It gave us all the information that a cheesy tour guide would have given us and let us skip what we did not want to stop for. The narrator was genuinely funny and very informative! The stories very interesting that he told. My son was intrigues and so was I. The back ground Hawaiian music was very relaxing and great to listen to. The guide was right on point with my GPS so it knew how far a point of interest was and warned us of the more dangerous turns. The Shaka Guide is perfect for those that don't feel like socializing, those that have limited time, or those that just want to do a tour at their own pace! My only complaint was a couple of times when we paused it do explore, it started at the beginning when we returned. But that was such a minor issue.
