- ayoalysha0 contributionsAmazing experience! We had an absolutely amazing time. We saw three very large sharks and we were so close to them! I’d suggest the GoPro rental if you do not have your own. Well worth the cost.Written 4 December 2024
- jmew220 contributionsAmazing ExperienceThis experience was amazing! I took my sons ages 10 and 17 and they had a blast. Hunter and Caleb were awesome. They were fun, informative, and very attentive. At first I was worried that my kids would be too cold in the water since it’s November but they said the water was warm. I half expected my 10 year old to chicken out but he didn’t have an issue with it at all. Definitely something you should do if you have the chance.Written 24 November 2024
- Cg C0 contributionsLoved itI love that you can either bring your own camera or rent their GoPro. Most companies have someone take pics and you have to pay for them and you can’t bring your own and there is no guarantee they get good pics of you. They were cool people and made the whole experience great. Highly recommend.Written 8 November 2024
- luggernutty0 contributionsSharks, Cages, and Boats!I enjoyed the trip. It was a great and wonderful experience. Both the weather and the atmosphere was wonderful. If I could do again soon, I will. If I visit again, I will bring some refreshments for myself while on the boat.Written 5 November 2024
- supamans10 contributionsAwesome ExperienceWe went on this shark tour as a work bonding trip from Iolani Palace and out of the 10 of us that made it only one of us had been on a shark tour so it was first time for a lot of us. This was truly a most unforgettable and awesome experience for all of us that we will never forget. The staff on the boat was just as awesome as seeing the the sharks because of how friendly and knowledgeable about the ocean and the sharks. I highly recommend doing this shark tour at least once. Our group is talking about going again and other staff want to go now. Thanks again for this awesome experience.Written 5 November 2024
- Angie M0 contributionsBucket listI was finally able to cross this off my list- the encounter was absolutely amazing. Guides were very educational and ensured everyone’s safety was number one priority. Over 10 sharks spotted! The most incredible experience 10/10 recommended.Written 19 October 2024
- R-3Norman0 contributionsExciting and SafeThe crew was very helpful and safety conscious. It only took 10 to 15 minutes to get out to the floating shark cage. There were very large sharks there the entire time, inches from us. I highly recommend this encounter.Written 6 October 2024
- 901cindyj0 contributionsGreat fun trip, and no one was eaten by sharks!!!!We went out on the 9AM trip on September 22, 2024. Our Captains were David and Ephraim. We took a short ride out to the shark cage, and our group of four went in the cage first (12 total on our boat). All four of us immediately saw Galapagos sharks swimming around the cage. We brought our own snorkel gear, but masks and snorkels were available. GoPros were available to rent. We had our own so I don’t know the cost. The trip was wonderful, we got fabulous pictures, and our Captains took great care of us and had lots of information about sharks in the region. Highly recommend!! 10/10 . GoPros were also available to rent, but we had our own cameras. Each group had approximately 30 minutes in the water.Written 24 September 2024
- sabrinauy20240 contributionsSuper fun experience!I was a little nervous when booking this experience but my husband was super excited! He had recommended this company after doing research and seeing all the good feedback. It was easy to book and the boat ride was good. I’m someone who gets motion sickness easily so I took a Dramamine and had no issues on the boat ride. Being in the cage is not as scary as it seems and the crew were very educated and made me feel much more relaxed. Towards the end I got a little nauseous after the waves started picking up but once I got back on the boat, drank some water, and we headed back I was totally fine. We would definitely recommend this experience and would do it again!Written 22 September 2024
- Sandra A0 contributionsShark SwimmingWe had an amazing experience. I am actually terrified of the sea but he the kids wanted to go so we wanted them to enjoy the experience. After seeing the sharks from the back of the boat and talking to the guide I decided to join them. Well I must say I thoroughly loved it and would highly recommend the tour, the guys (Hunter and the experienced Shark expert - sorry forgot your name) made us feel relaxed, and I would of missed out on a life experience if you had not made me feel at ease. So from all of us Mahalo (Thank you)Written 5 September 2024
- JayExploring0 contributionsLife changingIf you've never been shark cage diving, it is life changing. I cannot recommend it enough through Hawaii Shark Encounters. As awesome as the experience is in itself, the chill, knowledgeable, and reassuring boat captains made the trip successful for my family (two adults, a 12, and a 10-year old). We felt calm and safe the entire time because of their lead while having a kind blowing time watching these serene beauties.Written 4 September 2024
- jdelakai0 contributionsAmazing! We did this with our kids (9 and 11), and had an amazing experience. Not only was everything as promised but more. The crew lend us a GoPro stick and made sure our family went in together in the cage. Everyone was super friendly and helpful in any way. Don’t have one bad thing to say, definitely would book this company again!Written 4 September 2024

This was the best trip ever!! We had the pleasure of spending 2 hours with Captain David and Ephraim. Captain David did a great job of calming everyone's fears and making everyone feel comfortable before boarding the ship. He explained that they have a very special relationship with these sharks, and if we go in the water with good vibes, the sharks will return the favor. Everyone felt very relaxed and comfortable. Ephraim knows so much about sharks!! The entire time he taught us so much. He is very knowledgeable, and that made the trip even better. We had 11 people on our boat, so we got to spend about 20 minutes in the water, per group who booked together. Which was plenty of time. The best part, you could hear the whales singing under the water. Thank you for the experience!

This past week we were super excited to go cage diving with sharks and booked it 5 days in advance for the 11am time slot. The day before I checked my email to find out that they rescheduled us for an earlier time without even notifying us. Of course I called to figure out what’s going on and they said there aren’t enough people going out on the 11am so they switched us to earlier time. The staff on the phone reassured me that they do this all the time and reserve the right to reschedule you to whatever time they please. Thankfully I checked my email during my vacation otherwise I wouldn’t have been aware of this change they made.
The next day we rented a car as soon as we could to go up there from Honolulu, but sure enough hit a major accident and were delayed. I tried coordinating with them on waiting for us, but no luck. They mentioned that 2 other couples also didn’t make it for that exact reason and I guess they also came to the same fate we did. Instead they suggested putting me on the wait list for the 11am which I was originally scheduled for and prior “didn’t have enough people.” Something seems a little off and no stories aligned between the staff. We ended up showing up in hopes that they will take us for our original scheduled time, but there was no room. After we tried calling management again as they offered to reschedule us for the next day when we had specifically rented a car that day. To top it all off, they said a refund isn’t possible. Maybe it’s because we booked it through them and not a hotel we got such terrible service. Really disappointing experience.

Dixie, I'm not sure where you got your refund policy from but ours it pretty clear, if you book a trip and we cancel you get a 100% refund, no questions asked. Yes we have to change around schedule sometimes, it's not a bus route its a boat tour and things happen, as stated in the confirmation email, we do our best to keep all our guests abreast of what happening with schedule via text and email, if you have access to those then you are informed. whether you chose to respond to those notifications is entirely up to you. We're sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience, we'd like to extend to you a 1/2 off price for your next trip here to come out and experience the 5 star service all of your direct booking guests receive. Again we apologise for you were not able to get our with us this time around. Mahalo!

This was hands down the best activity we did while on Oahu & this will remain one of our greatest family vacation memories ever! We range from mid 50's to teens & all of us could easily get in & out of the cage. We highly recommend doing the cage dive vs an open ocean swim. All of us are good swimmers, but the open water current was quite strong. Having the cage to use to steady ourselves while videoing & photographing the sharks was incredibly helpful. I can't imagine trying to stay swimming in the same area or holding onto a rope in the current, while trying to view the sharks under the surface. The cage seriously is the way to go, so you can focus on the sharks.
They came right up by the cage, curious but not aggressive & we all felt quite safe. They were beautiful to see up close, in their natural habitat. The boat was on time & the captain & staff were very polite & knowledgeable. We got to spend a great deal of time in the water, as each guest preferred, and were not rushed in/out of the cage. It was an incredibly fun & magical experience and well worth the time & cost. It was easy to book with Hawaii Shark Adventures & the drive from Waikiki to the harbor was easy. We will definitely book this adventure again, if we return to Oahu. It was a wonderful way to end 2021 & usher in the new year-it inspired us to add more adventure in our lives for 2022!

TAKE DRAMAMINE! Aside from seasickness - which was on me - this was my favorite adventure! The crew was prompt, have cool facts on sharks, and helpful! We got plenty of time in the cage (20+ min), and when my go pro wasn’t working for my turn they offered to get some video for me with it, since I couldn’t get back in.
I recommend going in the morning, when the water is a bit more calm, and you can’t wear swim shoes in the cage - so just where flip flops to the adventure as you’ll be mostly barefoot.
Overall I felt very safe and it’s a beautiful way to get off the island/shore for a bit.

Can't say enough good about the skipper was. Knowledgeable, friendly, professional. On the way to the dive site we saw Humpback Whales and Dolphins. When I entered the cage there were easily 20 Galapagos Sharks swimming gracefully about the site. It was phenomenal! We had a GREAT time and the experience of a lifetime. Loved it!

My family went on the Hawaii Shark Encounters shark cage adventure. We lucked out with beautiful weather and the approximately 20 minute boat ride was smooth and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They delivered lots of Galápagos sharks to see in the short cage and there was nothing unsafe or scary about the overall experience. I would recommend it to anyone who knows how to swim and use a snorkel and mask, which was provided by the company. Parking was free and it was easy to find and there are some good restaurants within walking distance.

An experience that must be had when in the north shore. From the knowledgeable and funny staff to the bunches of sharks you will see in the cage, Keleo and his crew will almost guarantee you shark sightings. Very informative about the sharks and make you feel safe when you drop into the cage.

This was the most amazing experience I had in Oahu. Being a non-swimmer I was scared but the crew team motivated me to experience it and it was very safe. Not only did my family thoroughly enjoy the experience, but my teenage son, who is a skilled swimmer, was particularly thrilled by this activity. We decided to rent a go pro, and the footage we captured was exceptional. I highly recommend giving it a try, as observing the sharks calmly circling around and the fascinating marine life below is truly awe-inspiring. Initially, we had booked for an afternoon trip, but after reading reviews online that the sea can become rough later in the day, we requested an earlier time, and the team graciously accommodated us at 7 am. The team members were exceptionally polite, kind, and experienced. By 8:40 am, we had finished our adventure, leaving us with the entire day ahead to explore.

Amazing experience that prior to the trip I was nervous for. Fun and funny crew that also educated the guest about sharks and that their personalities are not as made out to be in “the movies”. The sharks were gentle giants and had curious personalities similar to a dog.
Staff explained how the cage vs free swim tours are different with the fact that the sharks are normally willing to get a lot closer to the cage then when free swimming. We saw over a half dozen sharks that would come very close to the cage which created amazing camera footage for our trip and an amazing experience all together!
Would highly recommend to anyone in Hawaii as a must do and would definitely do this again!!

Rough day on the water but the ride is not too long and the sharks immediately appear. We had a bunch of 8' Galapagos Sharks and then a 10' Tiger Shark appeared.
The crew were very professional, including a proper safety briefing for the vessel and entry/exit into the cage. They also talked about the terrible shark fin trade and offered a lot of information about the sharks in general.
It is a well run operation with a great experience in the water. Like everyone has written, it will be a highlight of your trip.

Cannot remember exactly, but pretty sure it was a couple miles offshore. Estimate it was about 30 min boat ride somewhat dependent on how rough the seas are. Took a while to get boat maneuvered into position next to cage. Total trip time is around 2 hours.
