About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jill_Misso0 contributionsWonderful ExperienceI wish we had done this trip earlier because it has been totally overwhelming and splendid beyond what we had imagined it to be. Mikumi and Selous are really beautiful, pristine and away from the crowds. We got to experience the wildlife and sceneries in their natural state without much interference from man. Otto is a seasoned guide who is great company and knowledgeable about the parks. He often knew where we would find the wildlife and being the rainy season the animals have migrated further from the rivers and water points. A boat ride along River Rufiji was awesome! We loved the accommodations, especially Rufiji River Lodge was special! Kudos to Ramadhan and Otto for the wonderful timeWritten 30 November 2024
- Quest463848921660 contributionsThis is a scammer agency they scammed us $3000. Avoid this agency.Gecko Adventure Tanzania has been flagged by some as a scam operation due to reports of poor service and unfulfilled promises. Customers have complained about misleading itineraries, unprofessional guides, and hidden charges. Allegedly, the company fails to deliver on advertised experiences, leaving travelers disappointed and frustrated. It’s advised to verify reviews and consult trusted sources before booking. Researching thoroughly can help avoid unreliable operators and ensure a safe, enjoyable trip in Tanzania.Written 28 November 2024
- Leevi_Koskinen0 contributionsA Beautiful and Memorable VacationThis trip to Tanzania has been an adventure of epic proportions and we have created wonderful memories that will last for a very long time. I will start with the outstanding quality of service from the moment we land in Julius Nyerere Airport in Dar. Our pcikup was timely and we were whisked to our hotel to rejuvenate after the long flight with 2 lay overs. Our guide Otto is a special one! So experienced as a safari guide and a wonderful person to be around. We instantly took to his warm personality and so knowledgeable on a diverse range of topic from wildlife, nature, history, culture, politics and life in general. He is a great driver who comfortably maneuvered the 4x4 Landcruiser through the roads and the parks. He went over and beyond to ensure that we were safe, comfortable and enjoying the trip. Wildlife encounters with Otto were much more than seeing them, he took his time to teach us about their habits, lifespan and so much about them. Otto's knowledge of the parks made the game drives interesting and fun as we could not run out nice things see. We appreciate the excellent lodges which made the experience awesome. We were particularly wowed by the Rufiji River Camp in Selous for its postcard beauty and top class service. We would definitely get used to this royalty treatWritten 15 November 2024
- 49michalt0 contributionsAnother Fantastic Vacation with Gecko! It was good to be back to Tanzania with our old friends from Gecko Adventure Tanzania. This is our second trip with them and we are overly impressed by their excellent hospitality and attention to detail. We were lucky to reconnect with Musa who had been our guide in Selous to also take us through Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The parks were just as we like them; quiet with little traffic. Rama also helped us get amazing discounts at the top of the line lodges. The lodges are pretty fantastic and actually deserve individual reviews. We will definitely keep returning to Gecko Adventure Tanzania for their excellent handling of guests.Written 8 November 2024
- Shania_Fricks0 contributionsIncredible Selous AdventureWe spent an amazing three days in Selous with guide Otto of Gecko Adventure Tanzania. This trip was just perfect and we definitely could have wished for a longer stay if it were possible. Otto was fantastic, he knew Selous well and he took us to many lovely spots where we could enjoy the wildlife without any other traffic. We took a boating safari along the Rufiji and its definitely one of the most interesting and wonderful things that we did on this trip. We enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife from the water particularly elephants, giraffes, many water birds, hippos, antelopes and many other animals. The campsite was fun and we had a great atmosphere that excited us, particularly the story time after dinner by the open campfire under the open skies. Sleeping under canvas with wild animals roaming in the nearby was so thrilling! I strongly recommend this trip and this operator they are amazing. If you are lucky to get guide Otto on this trip, you will create memories that will last you forever!!Written 3 November 2024
- sannih9660 contributionsIdeal Private VacationThis was our second vacation in Tanzania with Gecko Adventure Tanzania. We were back to Gecko because of their personalized service and attention to detail. We got Basili as our guide and he did an amazing job of guiding us. He has done this tour countless times and knew all the nice spots, which only comes with experience. There were hardly any other vehicles in the parks which made it very exclusive and enhanced the experience as we could take as long as we wanted. We saw so much wildlife and amazing sights with Basili on this tour that I did not think was possible. We enjoyed staying at the lovely cozy lodges that Rama booked us in. They had excellent service and memorable places to stay in.Written 16 October 2024
- emmabannikova0 contributionsA really excellent tripThe overall trip to Ngorongoro and Serengeti could not have been more perfect! The game drives were action filled and we had Musa our guide taking us to all the excellent wildlife viewing spots. Musa was truly outstanding as both as a driver and guide. He kept the vehicle clean, well stocked with water and ensured that we were comfortable. There was so much to see in the 2 days that I feel we needed more time to soak up more of what Tanzania has to offer. We enjoyed staring in the tented camps as ghey offered a closer connection with nature as we felt like we were part of the bush, only that we had excellent food and fantastic rooms to rest in.Written 16 October 2024
- claussY7725GL0 contributionsWe Will Definitely Return To TanzaniaOur trip could not have been better. Rama had put everything together nicely into an amazing itinerary that took us Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Every aspect came together nicely from the timely transfers, excellent vehicle, amazing lodgings and Otto our guide was an amazing guide. He took us to the far flung corners of the parks where there few other vehicles, allowing us to enjoy the views without any commotion. We enjoyed seeing the elephants, lions, hyenas, jackals following the wildebeest in Northern Tanzania. We stayed in some amazing places like andBeyond Grumeti and Chem Chem in Manyara. They enhanced the overall safari experience and we loved is a lot.Written 14 October 2024
- 38juliusw0 contributionsCamping In SelousWhat a romantic trip to Tanzania. Rama spoiled us silly with absolute perfection and excellence of service. We had three fantastic days with Otto exploring the massive park and then camping in the bush. Moses the assistant and cook was help was invaluable. He was responsible for the meals, and camp duty. The overall experience exceeds the 5 stars possible. It was so exciting sleeping under canvas with wildlife roaming not so far off. The constant hoove sounds as the animals went for a drink, the occasional roar and hyenas laughter was the night music. We had such an outstanding experience and it was all possible because of the great team from Gecko Adventure Tanzania.Written 3 October 2024
- GarrySincl0 contributionsGreat Experience & Value For MoneyThis is truly the best holiday vacation of our lives. We are truly grateful to Rama for planning and hosting us on such a perfect trip. Everything about it was well planned with timely transfers, all the hotels and camps were booked as we expected. Thanks for the upgrade in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We really enjoyed the deluxe comfort level. Osman was amazing as a guide and driver. He took excellent care and made sure that we were comfortable. He always consulted us while and was flexible to allow us leave out or include an activity that we spontenously wanted, like the stops for curios, meeting friends over dinner at George's in Arusha on our last evening. The game drives were spectacular and we always found that Rama had made all the required arrangements to ensure that we got in the parks smoothly. Similar preparedness and attention was repeated at the lodges and every other juncture in the trip. Overall this trip was great value for money for the level of comfort and luxury through out the trip.Written 26 September 2024
- Khanonthego0 contributionsUnforgettable and EnchantingWe had the pleasure of being hosted by Gecko Adventure Tanzania for a magical three days in Selous. We flew directly to Selous from Zanzibar and were met by Zacharia who was our guide. His extensive knowledge of the park, its animals and beautiful locations enriched the trip very much, as he knew exactly where to take us. With him there was never a dull moment, he also made great conversation as he told his stories, some so funny that we could not help laughing. We saw numerous animals, including all the big 5 if you replace seeing the rhino with hippos, lots of zebras, giraffes, huge buffalo herds, a rare sighting of wild dogs, elands and gnus. I was struck by the size of the elephant herds in Selous. There was one herd that had over a seventy elephants!! Zacharia was quite flexible took our needs seriously. Every morning he made sure that we he understood what we wanted and did not stop until we got it. His passion and dedication made our experience special.Written 18 September 2024
- Sheric_Misr0 contributionsBest Vacation in TanzaniaWe have just come back from the best vacation of our lives in Tanzania. Many thanks to Rama for organizing a perfect vacation. The services at the lodges was first class. They food was great too and we enjoyed the pit stops a lot. We saw a huge number of animals with elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeests, bufaloes and antelopes being the most featured. A guide can make or break a safari and we were lucky to have Moses as our guide during the trip. He took care of us and made sure that we had an unforgettable experience with him. He went out of his way to ensure that we were comfortable, teaching us about the animals, their habits.... We also visited some local tribes, we were very happy to meet with the Hadxabe tribe of hunter gatherers. They were so welcoming and charming people. It was a real joy to go on this trip with Moses. He made it perfect.Written 12 September 2024
- puukij0 contributionsThe Week-long Safari Adventure In Selous Was MagicalWe actually spent seven days in Tanzania exploring Selous and we still did not complete exploring all the areas in this huge park. We had one of the best guides ever... Otto. He is simply amazing, a patient individual whose efforts were always geared to keeping us happy and fulfilled. This was our second time in Tanzania and with Gecko Adventure Tanzania. We came back to them because they are committed to excellence, great service and have really good guides in their stable. I wish had that we had done Selous much earlier because it offers exclusivity and privacy unlike the the parks in the Northern circuit. There was so much to see! so much wildlife, amazing landscapes, ethereal sunsets and the aura was just magical. It was like living off a story book. It was amazing as we loved everything about the safari.Written 7 September 2024
- Z584IPethanr0 contributionsThey pressure us to give reviewsIf you are looking for a company with the best guides to be your friend after the safari then look for another tour operator because Gecko Adventures is a terrible service. They are dishonest traders and we made a mistake by succeeding with them.Written 31 August 2024
- 964merled0 contributionsOur unforgettable safari in Tanzania with OttoMy family and friends have just returned home from an excellet trip to Selous and Mikumi National Park. We recommend booking a trip with Gecko Adventure Tanzania 100% and if you are lucky to be partnered with guide Otto, you are bound to enjoy the ride. Otto was amazing, very knowledgeable and passionate about Tanzania and conservation of the ecosystems. The surreal sunset at theend of our boat ride on river Rufiji with hippos in the water, elephants and giraffes on the shores. Game drives were action filled, Otto focused on finding all the animals that were on a wishlist. He also spotted lots of birdlife and being avid birdying enthuthiasts it was so thrilling. Absolutely fantastic experience. I am very impressed with Rama for organizing such a perfect trip. We were picked from Southern Sun Hotel at around 9.30 am, enjoying the views of the Dar city, Nyerere bridge....took a boat to Sinda Island with Omar who was our guide for the day.
The island is stunningly beautiful, white sandy beaches and clear blue waters. We spent the late morning snorkeling with Omar had our packed lunch and had a siesta, explore the island in the afternoon before returning back to our hotel.

Snorkeling was amazing. The water was perfect. Our guides were great, very friendly and accommodating. It was a very memorable experience for me and my 17 year old daughter. In addition to snorkeling, we hiked the entire island which made snorkeling even more amazing. Lunch on the island was fried chicken, fries, salad and cokes. Very enjoyable. The timi g of the trip was a full day which was perdect for my schedule. Highly recommended.

Whilst on a work trip I had the opportunity to do a day excursion. Instead of going to Zanzibar I thought I’d give a snorkeling trip a go.
Positives: The people involved were extremely friendly and I can’t fault them. The use of the traditional dhow made for a fun experience. The actual island was beautiful and it was very quiet, not a single tourist there which was great.
Negatives: The beach picnic lunch was non-existent - simply a pastry, banana and a warm coke. The reef is unfortunately not in amazing condition, like so many reefs.
Overall I enjoyed the experience but it most certainly is not value for money.

I went out snorkeling for the day. When coming to Tanzania I didn’t even know it was an option. The snorkeling was average, due to the reef conditions, but not unlike Punta Cana. However Sinda Island was so beautiful. While I was there, my guide (Omar), the boat driver, and a random fisherman with his son were the only people on the entire island. The weather was gorgeous with a light sea breeze and the white sand beach and torqoius water were the best. After snorkeling with Omar, we swam to the beach and took a tour of the island. No one lives on the island, but people are allowed to camp overnight. The lunch was ok, but that wasn’t the purpose of the trip. I would definitely recommend if you have a day to spend while
In Dar es Salaam. It was also a little bit of an adventure getting there with the ferry ride.
