About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LHS1234560 contributionsTanzania Safariwe spend 6 days in total - 1 day in Arusha and 5 days on Safari - Tarangire National Park, Central & Southern Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area (crater). Though this is my second safari trip, I was not disappointed in terms of coverage and most important of all the excellent level of service provided by Mathew and his team. In particular the driver/guides of Mike, Ally and Ayubu were exemplary - friendly, knowledgable and fun people doing their job. Will I travel again with Mathew & company - a definite and resounding YES! You will not be disappointed but be amazed by the trip.Written 24 February 2025
- lana2travel0 contributionsUnforgettable experienceWe had unforgettable trip from start to finish. I did many quotes and spoke to many providers before connecting with Wild Root Safaris. Mathew was very responsive, was happy yo provide many quotes as we had few accomodation options in mind. The quote was very reasonable compared to others for the same itinerary. Our guide Hamisi, was very fun and knowledgeable and a good driver. He had very sharp eyes and managed to spot many animals for us and we noticed that many cars stoped and ask him, which tells a lot in safari! Tanzania in general was amazing in December, barely any rain , but the scenery was stunning with deep green nature. We managed to see Big 5! Highly recommend Tanzania and Wild Root Safari!Written 22 February 2025
- pfloresd0 contributionsGreat safari with small children! We took a 7 day Safari with Wild Root across Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with our five year old twins. We had a fantastic time and our driver Salim made the trip even better as he not only made sure we had great sightings but carefully planned the drives (which are by nature quite long) in a way that made the drives quite smooth for our kids; always making sure they had fun even while on the road. Very good planning from Mathew from the get go and really good service overall. We can certainly recommend them for a Safari adventure!!Written 8 December 2024
- paulnR9532QQ0 contributionsA fabulous safari with our Wild Root guide, Hamisi. We went on a 7-day Wild Root Safari to Tarangire, Serengeti and Lake Manyara N.Ps. We saw so much! The animals, birds, trees and flowers were astounding. We went so many places! To the copjes, the plains, and the river bottoms. Sitting quietly to view the endless landscape of the Serengeti or watch wildlife was very special and not something that is easily done with a large group. All would have been nearly impossible to see and do without the help of a guide. Our guide was Hamisi and we had a wonderful time with him on the safari. He is energetic, very knowledgeable and lots of fun. He was engaged with us nearly all the time and his love of the Serengeti is obvious. We watched other people with other guides and saw how lucky we were. Mathew arranged all of it perfectly and was so helpful in the planning stages. He responded immediately to our emails and was available all through the safari. We really appreciate everything he did. It was everything we hoped for. We wouldn't change a thing.Written 11 November 2024
- A6154FQtomr0 contributionsExcellent Safari with LengaiMy wife and I did a fantastic, six-day safari with Wild Root for our honeymoon in September 2024! Our guide, Lengai, was excellent! He had a deep knowledge of the parks we visited (Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro) as well as the many, many animals we saw there. He was friendly, thoughtful, easy to talk to, and tried really hard to (successfully) make our safari very special. He knew all the spots to visit, talked with other guides on the radio to see where the action was, and created an unforgettable experience for us -- we saw lions (females, males, and babies), leopards, rhinos, elephants, hyenas, cheetahs, ostriches, water buffalo, wildebeests, crocodiles, hippos, a python, and so many other things. It was so cool, and Lengai was just an awesome guide. The lodging on the mid-range safari option was very comfortable, and the trip was planned out and executed very well. We got in late the first day (flight delayed), and Mathew (the owner of Wild Root) coordinated a stay at a very comfortable, clean, and safe hotel closer to the airport so we wouldn't have to drive far after landing late. We stayed at the Maramboi Tented Lodge outside Tarangire for the next two nights -- the pool there is absolutely gorgeous, and the food was excellent. Then we stayed at the Heritage Luxury Tented Camp in Serengeti. Our patio looked out over the Serengeti, and we sipped wine while watching the giraffes stroll by. Then we did one night at Lions Paw in Ngorongoro, which was exquisite -- great food and service, beautiful sunset, and remarkable attention to detail (it was chilly, so they put hot water bottles in our bed while we were at dinner). All in all, an awesome trip with a great company. We would highly recommend Wild Root.Written 17 October 2024
- Marco V0 contributionsAn Unforgettable 9-Day Safari: Perfectly Organised and Beyond Expectations! We recently returned from a 9-day safari, exploring the Northern Serengeti for the Great Migration, with stops in Tarangire, Central Serengeti, and Ngorongoro — and it was truly the trip of a lifetime! A massive thank you to Mathew for flawlessly organizing every detail and ensuring our journey went smoothly from start to finish. Special recognition goes to our amazing guide, Hamis, who went above and beyond to provide us with an exceptional experience. Thanks to him, we not only spotted elusive leopards and cheetahs but also witnessed the breathtaking migration crossing — moments we had only dreamed about! This trip exceeded all of our expectations, leaving us with memories we’ll cherish forever. The company was incredibly professional, reliable, and made us feel safe and well taken care of throughout the entire adventure. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again and highly recommend their services. Thank you for an unforgettable adventure!Written 26 September 2024
- 604sanjaya0 contributionsUnforgettable Kenya & Tanzania Safari. We were a family group of 12 people from the USA planned our Kenya and Tanzania safari with Mathew from Wild Root safaris. From the start to the end Mathew planned an itinerary that was customized to our needs; he was quick to answer all our questions and took care of everything from our domestic flights to providing assistance with Visas. Our safari was incredible and so much of that was due to our tour leader Hamisi who is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the wildlife around us. The hotels/lodges they picked were spectacular - all the safari staff was incredibly attentive to our needs. Wild Root Safaris made our lifelong dream of an African safari a reality. It was beyond our expectations. We never imagined our trip being as truly amazing as it was. If you are considering a safari to Tanzania, we highly recommend Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. You will not be disappointed!Written 16 September 2024
- Safari334432171260 contributionsTen Day African Safari in TanzaniaWe recently completed a ten day safari with Wild Roots Safari Adventure, a local Arusha company. Mathew from Wild Root was instrumental in putting our customized safari package together. He customized a ten day safari for us with additional days added on in Zanzibar. We were extremely satisfied with our trip. Mathew was able to customize our package while maintaining a reasonable cost. He also met us in person in Arusha to introduce himself before we left on our safari. Our safari was incredible and so much of that was due to our driver and guide Hamisi. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the wildlife around us. We saw and photographed the Big Five thanks to Hamisi’s abilities. Wild Root Safaris made my lifelong dream of an African safari a reality. It was beyond my expectations. I never imagined our trip being as truly amazing as it was. If you are considering a safari to Tanzania, look no further than Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. You will not be disappointed! - jdandpg0 contributionsSupported in so many waysWe were so happy with our Wild Root Kilimanjaro Trekking Adventure! Our guides were stellar- Kennedy and Noel were knowledgeable and very honest, encouraging and supportive. They work very well together as a team. Both of them were very observant, and good at balancing safety and success. They were really helpful in preparing us day-by-day for each leg of the trek. They got to know us quite quickly, and were able to tailor their guidance accordingly . The support staff were also incredible! A HUGE KUDOS goes to Robert, the camp manager, for keeping everything in perfect order and for making sure all our needs were met. He also joined us to the summit, sharing the duties of holding our packs, along with the guides. Without him, I wouldn’t have made it to the top! I also wouldn’t have made it down, unless he had called on some of our porters to help me out! A special thanks to Michael, Damien, and Richard! The food was great, and Idris, our stomach engineer, catered to our favourites, and to my partner’s multiple food allergies! WOW! Not easy! Everything was always ready for us for our arrival, including the toilet, which was always kept clean! There were no issues with the tent or sleeping mats/bags. Would highly recommend! Especially because they’re a LOCAL company, run by locals versus an American or European outfitter. I like my money going to those who live there and support you!Written 22 August 2024

We had the most fantastic four day safari with Mdee, our guide, and couldn't have been better looked after from beginning to end. - 22rhondam0 contributionsWild Root Safaris and Adventures -- A Trip of a Lifetime! My husband suggested a safari to celebrate my 60th birthday knowing it was my lifelong dream to go. An Internet search to begin my planning left me completely overwhelmed, so I turned to Trip Advisor where I always get great travel advice. After reading through the forums, I began limiting my search to some recommended tours in Tanzania and found Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. I am beyond grateful for the recommendation because Wild Root absolutely made our trip the adventure of a lifetime! After emailing the owner, Mathew, with an initial inquiry, I got a very quick response. I explained to Mathew what we were interested in and he customized a seven day safari for us with additional days added on in Arusha. The planning was beyond easy and Mathew was amazingly responsive to all of my questions. Mathew provided us with multiple options for our safari and we finally decided on a private, budget safari for our trip. It was the perfect trip for us and fit well within our budget. Once we arrived in Arusha, we were picked up at the Kilimanjaro Airport and brought to Outpost Lodge where we stayed while in Arusha. Mathew showed up the morning after our arrival to talk through the details and see if there was anything we needed. The lodge was perfect for us--clean and comfortable with a great staff. The night before our safari Mathew stopped by to introduce us to our guide, Hamisi. Our trip was amazing and so much of that was due to Hamisi. He was incredibly knowledge, friendly, and passionate about his country and his culture. We call Hamisi the "animal whisperer" because he had an uncanny ability to find animals. He knew their behavior and this knowledge allowed us to see so much during the safari. But seeing a lot of animals was not enough for Hamisi, he wanted to make certain we saw ALL of the animals including leopards which are more difficult to find. Finding the animals was not enough, however, Hamisi made certain we had the opportunity for great photos, gave us great information on each animal we saw, and allowed us time to truly enjoy every animal we saw. I could write pages about Wild Root Safaris and Adventures and how they made my lifelong dream of an African safari a reality. Wild Root went beyond my expectations. I never imagined our trip being as truly amazing as it was. If you are considering a safari to Tanzania, look no further than Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. You will not be disappointed and you WILL have the adventure of a lifetime!Written 19 March 2024
- 792meemeeh0 contributions6 days climbing Kilimanjaro using Marangu routeI did a lot of studies pertaining to my trip to Africa, particularly in Safari & Mt Kilimanjaro. After a serious consideration, we made up our decision of engaging Wildroot Safaris and adventure as our tour operator based on our friend strong recommendations. I chose this company for a few reasons, but the foremost still come to the pricing. The price is reasonable for both the destination. We will greeted by their representative upon our arrival in Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to hotel by their luxury SUV , is in middle of the sunny day ( I am puzzle with the driver of turning on & off the air conditioning and wind down the window, perhaps they rather prefer to enjoy the nature air as most of the vehicle do. For Mt Kilimanjaro, we were greeted by Chief guide John and assisted by 2nd guide Kennedy. They were extremely experience and professional with a multiple times of guiding mountaineer to the summit, they are easy to deal with, knowledgeable and informative about their country and anything concerning with Mt Kilimanjaro. This really makes the trekking more fun and some small jokes for spontaneous laugh along the trail. this really makes the long hour flies. My friend and i managed to make it to the summit with the support of the guides, another buddy failed to make it due to personal health issue. He was advised to make the descent as the best option based on the current situation. They are medical well trained and are good in observation when you weren't do well, even if you thought you were. Kennedy and Robert keep motivated me and my friend so that we keep moving till the summit. They even offer to carry our bag just to make us not so burden and can walk easily. Another good point of them is they really very helpful which took few videos of me during the journey to the mountain. I m really appreciate it. I bring back lot of good memories to my country. If you are looking for a tour company for your Mt Kilimanjaro, without any hesitation, look no others way but to Wildroot Safaris. Choosing the right company for your hike with either make it or break it. I can assure you will have a great adventures for you to sign up with Wildroot Safaris.Written 10 March 2024
- N6829XIrenet0 contributionsWildroot safari and Serengeti perfect combination. We recently completed a seven day safari with Wild Roots a local Arusha company. Hamish the guide was outstanding, we saw the big 5 thanks to the persistence and knowledge and acute awareness of the surroundings. One day he starred driving for half a kilometer because he saw a tail of a lion up, there were 4 lions in that place. He knew the name of all animals and birds and their habits. We saw so many animals and beautiful birds. The accommodations were fantastic. The owner Mathew is a man of his word and he sees you personally before and after the safari. He answers all e-mails quickly and tries to adjust itinerary to your taste. I recommend this company without any reservations. Rene and JuanitaWritten 25 February 2024
- rafaelw9300 contributions7 day/6 night safariMy wife and I booked with Wild Root for our honeymoon and had a fabulous experience! Our guide was Hamisi, he is very genuine, funny, looked after us well, and is knowledgeable. We did a 7 days 6 nights experience through Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and central + northern serengeti. We saw every major animal we were hoping for except the rhino, which we understand is very rare. We even saw a river crossing in Northern serengeti! Thank you Wild Root! We will see you again soon.Written 26 December 2023

Our guide, Hussein, picked us from Arusha and drove to Ngorongoro conservation area. Along the way, he pointed out the Great Rift Valley which runs from Lebanon to Mozambique. We started very early on 2nd day and our guide chose best spotting location to watch lions, zebras, giraffes and we came across the migration of the wildebeest. What a wonderful sight! We could only spot the leopard and cheetah from a distance using the binoculars. On 3rd day, we descended 600m into Ngorongoro crater floor exploring more animals. As we have a flight to catch, Hussein is very mindful ensuring the we are on time for our flight. Though we only have 2N3D for the safari, it's very good experience with a knowledgeable and patience guide who is helpful with his information. Thank you to our guide Hussein and Wild Root for the amazing safari tour!
