Excellent Addis Ababa Day Tour for Day Layover
We just completed a private day city tour of Addis Ababa with Go Further and highly recommend this for anyone visiting the city. We were taking advantage of a day in the city as part of the Ethiopian Airlines layover programme. This is a great option if you want to break up your travel or just experience something different. We flew from Hong Kong to ADD and then on to Toronto with 17 hours in ADD. After arriving at around 5am we found the Ethiopian Airlines customer service desk near the transfer area and were issued a voucher for the Skylight Hotel. This voucher also acts as a visa so you can go through normal immigration lanes and then find the hotel transfer desk after customs. From there it is a short complementary bus ride to the hotel when they take your voucher and give you room for the day. All of this is included in your airfare with Ethiopian Airlines. As we had the day in Addis Ababa we decided to do a private tour and found Go Further. We met Joseph our driver at a coffee shop near to the hotel and then met up with Birhanu our guide for the day. Prior to this the booking with Go Further had been super easy and they were able to come up with an option that met our needs perfectly. Birhanu had been in touch on WhatApp prior to our visit so we knew we could get in contact should anything happen with our flights or plans. The tour itself was super interesting and gave a good feeling for the city. We started at Shola Market and then did a visit to the national museum. Birhanu was extremely knowledgeable about both and really brought them to life compared an unguided visit. After the museum was a delicious lunch, coffee shop visit and then more city sights including a drive up to one of the highest points in the city. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate for views but the visit was extremely interesting. We were eventually dropped back at the hotel in the afternoon in time for a quick nap and chance to freshen up before our onward journey to Toronto at 11pm. Luggage was checked through all the way from Hong Kong so made the day nice and easy (just remember to pack a change of clothes and toiletries in your carry-on). We plan to do the food tour with Go Further on our way back to HKG and are really looking forward to that. I would highly recommend both the layover with Ethiopian Airlines and of course the tour with Go Further. The private option worked well for us as it gave a bit more flexibility should anything in our inwards travel be delayed (thankfully it was all on time - early even).

Excellent Tour with lots of interesting information
I was stopping over at Addis Ababa for a couple of days and decided to book a city tour with Go Further. It was formerly known as Go Addis and it was highly recommended by Lonely Planet. My guide's name was Mulugeta. Go Further had been very responsive to my queries. I even received clear instructions and reminders before the tour. I also like the fact that Mulugeta sent me an email beforehand introducing himself. We met up at Barista's Coffee early in the morning, with the driver Yousef. It was a very enjoyable day. We spent some time at Shola Market. Mulugeta gave me detailed explanation of items (spice, coffee beans, coffee pots etc) that were sold at the market, which provided some insight into the way people live in Ethiopia. We also went to the National Museum to see the famous Lucy, and the St Mary Church Memorial Museum and Palace. For a traditional Ethiopian lunch we went to Addis Ababa Restaurant, which was formerly a residence of Emporer Menelik II's daughter. It was a beautiful building and we had lovely injera with beef stew. After that we went to Tomoa for the best coffee in town. Lastly upon my request, we went to Red Terror Martyrs Memorial Museum and it turned out to be a deeply moving and thought provoking experience. It displays horrifying details about the tragic time in the country during the Derg regime. This place is a must-visit. It is an important lesson for everyone and I think it should be included in the city tour. Mulugeta did a marvelous job with the explanation. Overall I highly recommend Go Further the Addis City Tour if you wish to get a glimpse of life in Addis Ababa.

      Great intro to Addis
As an introduction to Addis this is probably one of the best trips . The meet up location was easy to find and my guide did the day was Mulugeta - who is a local to the city and between the sites we visited I got a pretty good idea of what makes this place tick from him. As it was on a Sunday with Merkato closed we went to Shola market first This was followed with a visit to the National Museum where we checked out Lucy - it’s a great museum for anyone keen on archeology and the rich geography of this country. We visited Entoto Hill as well as the church of St Mary on the mountain. Despite the rain - could see views of the city from above Lunch at one of the city’s famous traditional restaurant followed - highly recommended and ended with coffee from Tomaco another Addis institution. Had a really great day and couldn’t fault anything really - thanks to the Go Further team. Highly recommended

6 days in Addis Ababa & Lalibela
We spent 6 days in Ethiopia and used Go Further the entire time we were there. We would call it a real once-in-a-lifetime experience, but that wouldn't be true, because we already want to go back! The country, culture, food, and people were amazing. And our guides, Brihanu and Memekia, at Go Further did a phenomenal job showcasing it all! We did the city tour, food tour and a custom tour in Addis and a custom 2-day tour of Lalibela. The guides went above and beyond to make sure we got rich and varied experiences. They were extremely knowledgeable and easy-going. Go further also helped book our accommodations and took care of transportation to and from the airport. In addition to having guides we had someone in each city driving us and our guides to the various locations/activities. The tour company also helped us exchange currency. And they offered SIM cards if we wanted one. But we didn’t need it because Go further thought of everything and took care of every detail! If you are considering a trip to Ethiopia, go ahead and book the flight. And then contact Go Further to book tours! You won’t regret it. *Please know we had explicit permission from the individuals and/or guides to take pictures of people.

      Simien mountains walking tour
My husband and I recently completed a four-day trip with GoAddis to the Simien mountains that included two nights at Limalimo Lodge and three days' walking, plus half a day tour of the Palaces at Gonder. Exceptional service throughout, with the team constantly communicating via a What'sApp group, and smooth and professional transitions throughout. Lovely, knowledgeable guides and good company. Not cheap but good value for all the excellent memories laid down...

      Excellent and professional services
My husband and I had a long layover in Addis Ababa and we decided to organize a private tour with Go Addis. We are so glad we did. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport. Our guide Mulugeta and driver Emush were excellent. They took as to all the sites we wanted, providing a lot of history, information and stopping for photos when we wanted. It was a great way to see the city. All the reservation process with Xavi and his team was so smooth and they were extremely responsive to all my questions and COVID concerns. I would recommend this agency!

A treat for the spirit; Ethiopia claims you.
Throughout, Go Addis were helpful, well informed, patient, professional and speedy. Frankly, we changed our plans more than once and Go Addis responded without delay. The result was an utterly memorable visit to some unique sites - Gondar, Lalibella, and Addis itself. Punctual, efficient flights, smooth transfers, wonderful guides. The landscapes are unforgettable, the people generous and welcoming. Ethiopia lingers in the eyes, the heart, the mind. GO Addis made it possible. we will never forget it or them. Thank you.

      1/2 Day Tour
My wife and I arranged a 1/2 day tour with Go Addis Tours the day before we arrived in Addis. They were quick to write back and arrange the tour with only 12 hours notice. Mulugeta was our assigned guide and he was absolutely fantastic. We learned so much from him about Addis and Ethiopia. He had a tremendous amount of historical and cultural information to provide. As well he knew his way around the city, tailoring the tour to our preferences. He even extended the 1/2 day into a tour that lasted from 9:30 - 4:30 - which was really unexpected and greatly appreciated! I'd recommend Go Addis Tours, and especially a tour with Mulugeta! Thanks for the awesome memories and experience!

      Amazing experience in Addis
Addis Ababa is a large, vibrant and bustling city that is certainly worth a more in-depth guided tour, especially if you have little time to know the main attractions. We did the half day tour with Go Addis, and our guide Mulugeta brilliantly led our group of 6 people.  We didn't even see the time go by. It was an immersion in the culture not only of the city but of the country as a whole, as we had a class about Addis Ababa as well as Ethiopia. The tour with Go Addis is certainly worth the investment of time and money!

      Addis Full Day Tour
My friend and I had a 27 hour layover in Addis so decided to get out and about and experience the city. We did the full day tour, and so glad we did! We had Mulugeta in the morning who took us to the markets, lunch, coffee, and then the museum and Church of the Holy Trinity. He was an excellent guide and so knowledgeable! In the afternoon we did the food tour with Genet and that was just as good as the morning part of the tour. Everything for the day was covered by the tour fees and we did not have to buy anything extra. Would highly recommend this company and their guides, who for the short time you are with them make you feel at home. The tour just made us want to come back to Ethiopia with more time and explore the rest of the country - if we do will be using Go Addis Tours.

      Full day tour
My husband and I did the full day tour, incorporating the highlights tour and food tour. We had a fantastic day and thoroughly recommend doing the full day tour to anyone visiting Addis. Mulugeta was our guide for the highlights tour and he was excellent- a really friendly guy and an impressive level of knowledge which he happily shared with shared with us. It was a great way to see some of the main attractions of Addis whilst learning so much about everything and not having the hassle of coordinating it all on your own. Genet was our guide for the food tour and she was excellent, friendly and informative as well. There was so much food- everything was delicious and a few things we never would have tried on our own. We had a great driver and good quality vehicle for the whole day to ensure we go everywhere safely. I'm confused that people would say this experience is overpriced- you get all your transport, meals, excellent guides, admission to various sights. We thought it was good value. Keep in mind that the people taking you around also need to earn a reasonable amount of money!

      Overpriced for what you get
I booked the full day tour. It’s divided in: the half day city tour with a guide + the food tour with another guide. They say they offer another activity in addition in between the two, which is not the case. You do not see anything you wouldn’t see on your own with a driver. And you would pay less! The guide do not explain anything, he’s just taking your around. Food tour was kind of okay, the guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Food was good. But it’s still too much money for what you get. No particular added value in paying for this! Hire a driver and do it on your own.

I booked the full day tour which combines the half day tour with the food tour, and my wife and I had a wonderful time. Mulegeta our tour guide was well informed about the history of Ethiopia and an all around good guy. The driver (sorry I forgot your name bro) totally handled the traffic and terrain assertively, but with none of those “oh sh**!” moments you often find when driving in the big city AND on winding mountain roads; both of which were on our journey. I was impressed.

Being that my wife is Ethiopian, and an amazing cook I can tell you that the restaurant choices were on point. We took the private tour and they pretty much catered the tour to us. If you’re not familiar with Ethiopian cuisine, I highly recommend the food tour. If you’re not familiar with Addis, you could probably find the sights for less money, but this tour will save you some time, and point you in the right direction for the rest of your stay. I guarantee you’ll also find some hidden treasures you wouldn’t find otherwise. Totally worth it.

Birhanu is a true professional and a good man. Even though the price may seem higher compared to local providers at a first glance, you truly pay for the quality here. And that is, in my opinion, worth it while travelling to this special country.

During the one single day we've spent together I got to know so much about Ethiopian culture, history (& taste of the food).

I would totally recommend having a tour with Birhanu, especially for the beginning of your stay in Ethiopia so you get a crash-course of a local life early on. Birhanu also connected me with other guide friends in different cities, which made my travels so much more easy and smooth.

I really like Ethiopian food so on my long layover I knew I wanted to do a food tour. Go Addis was the most established one and it worked w/ my layover timing so I booked it. The guide, Mule, was very nice and easy to talk to. We talked about a lot of different subjects throughout the afternoon, and he taught me many things about Ethiopia that I didn't know before. It ended up being a private tour because I guess nobody else booked. We started by going on a tour of Shola Market, which is supposed to be more traditional than Merkato. Mule pointed out all the different spices, the different items they made out of the false banana plant, the traditional covers for injera and traditional tables, the different coffee beans being sold (from green for those who want to roast it themselves, through different roasts), and the equipment they use to roast coffee. We then went into the women's traditional clothing section and he explained about when women where which dresses. After walking around Shola market, we took a taxi to our first food stop, a vegan restaurant where they served shiro wot. I really like shiro, and the flavor they got out of this one was amazing. The injera was made fresh in house too. This was probably my favorite food stop of the three, because it was probably the best shiro wot I've ever had. Next was on to a seafood house that specialized in fried fish. That was good as well. The last food stop was a special beef restaurant where Mule ordered traditional beef tibs for me. It was well seasoned and overall very nice. Finally we finished with a stop at a traditional coffee house, where I saw how coffee is traditionally prepared and drank. He ordered a cinnamon tea for himself. I had never seen cinnamon tea before so he got me a second cup so I could try some. Completely full of yummy food and happy, he walked me back to my layover hotel to finish the tour. Mule was great to have as a guide and Go Addis put together a nice mix of restaurants to take their guests to on this tour.

We visited the southern villages in Ethiopia (as well as the food tour).
The tour was well organized, our tour guide Dessu was simply the best (kind, patient, knowledgeable, passionate, doing the best for us to have a great memory) and our driver, Joseph was excellent and knew his job very well.

I went on the combined Addis overview tour and evening food tour. It makes for a long but very rewarding day. The food tour in particular should not be missed and featured a vegetarian Ethiopian meal, a fish restaurant, a beef restaurant and coffee service. The morning overview tour featured the National Museum, market, park overlooking the city and traditional lunch. My guide Mulugeta was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with

During a long layover in Addis this October, I decided to try out their market and food tour to discover the city a bit more instead of staying at the hotel. The guide was very interesting and had lots of great stories and knowledge to share, the market was a place full of discoveries, and I regretted not having a bigger stomach for the food tour. It ended with a coffee ceremony, served by a lovely lady. I can only recommend this company, and hope they will open in more countries very soon!

We had lived in Addis for five years before returning in March, so we were not strangers to the city or the food. What was so great about Birhanu's tour of four restaurants in the "Chechnya" neighbourhood, well-known for its nightlife, was his optimism, enthusiasm and knowledge. After we met up we walked about 15 minutes to the first restaurant where we learned a little about Ethiopian cooking, how local restaurants are organized, and where we shared a gebeta of vegan "fasting food". Next we braved Friday afternoon traffic crossing Mickey Leland street towards a fish restaurant, which was a completely new experience for us. Next stop: tibs! My personal favourite. Last but not least was a traditional coffee ceremony where I learned that the second "tona" pouring of coffee is my preferred one (the first, "abol" is too strong, especially into the evening).

Please, please patronize Go Addis. The Covid year 2020 was very hard on them and 2021 has not been easy either. Even if you have a few hours during a stop-over in Addis, their tour is a must-do!

We did the food tour with the Shola market add on. Our guide, Birhanu, told us a lot about Ethiopian food and tradition and I'd recommend doing the Shola market too. It's fascinating to see (and taste) the spices before trying the food. Definitely worth taking a guide to the market.

The food tour was essentially three separate meals; vegetarian; fish; and meat! All great though our highlight was the fried fish. We ended with a coffee ceremony which I've done before but this really explained the importance and different elements.

I'd definitely recommend this tour and Birhanu is a great guide.

A great introduction to Addis Ababa and Ethiopian food!

We did the afternoon food tour + the Shola market extension tour.

Go Addis was great to deal with, right from the start when we made inquiries before leaving Australia. Other tour we looked at were slow and/or difficult to make arrangements with.

Our guide, Mulugeta contacted us prior to the tour with clear information. He was very relaxed and interesting as he led us through the Shola market.
We then met up with one other for our afternoon food tour. THIS WAS GREAT! A great introduction to Ethiopian food that set good groundwork for our next month’s touring.

We started with an injera restaurant where we enjoyed samples of a range of local cuisine. We then went to a fish restaurant – the fish looked a little dry but was very juicy and tasty, especially when eaten with the local chilli salsa.

We next went to a meat restaurant for tibs – very tasty BUT also tough, as we were to learn was how this dish often was.

We didn’t get the promised coffee ceremony – the other tour member had had one elsewhere and our guide commented that we would get other opportunities in Ethiopia. We were a bit disappointed (and felt short-changed) but didn’t want to complain at the time.

One negative - our taxi driver was hesitant to convey us to the meeting place from our hotel for the 200 birr recommended on the website, and the same for our return trip - and our guide said that it really wasn’t enough, so this information needs updating.

I took part in the local food tour with Genet my first afternoon in Addis. It was a fantastic introduction not only to Ethiopian food, but to the culture and country itself. I have since been in Addis for almost two weeks now and can confidently say that I enjoyed some of the best food I've had here while on this tour.

Genet was such a pleasure to have as a guide. Her enthusiasm for Ethiopia and introducing visitors to the local cuisine was really refreshing. In just a short time I felt like I had learned so much from our conversations.

Genet also so sweetly made a list of how to say various words and phrases in Amharic so I could successfully order vegan food for myself. In addition to basic words (hello/ thank you/etc). She's actually the reason why I can properly say thank you in Amharic properly! Towards the end of our tour there was a power cut, which interfered with our visits to the last two stops as they has closed. Despite that Genet confidently guided us to another location so we could enjoy a coffee ceremony and finally organized a taxi for us back to our hotel for 100 birr- so great!

I personally received some unwanted attention while walking at night during the power cut, and Genet handled the situation so well. I really applaud the care she took. Walking through dark streets on a rowdy Friday night with tourists wasn't easy.

Lastly my experience of booking with GoAddis was a pleasant and enjoyable one. Their online payment option also really simplified booking. I always prefer to pay securely online. I appreciated their efforts to organize a vegan tour for me. In addition to their enthusiasm. I would absolutely book another tour with them.

    Thanks guys! :)
