About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Rriemen0 contributionsGreat Kenya ExperienceI only had a few days to visit Kenya and Across Africa Tours was able to design my trip the way I wanted it. They did so with ease. The lodging was fantastic, the shuttle person was wonderful, and the safari guides were also very good. The company was quick to respond to questions I had before and during the trip. Their efforts made our Kenya experience an unforgettable one.Written 16 September 2024
- akko790 contributionsBe careful !!I booked a tour. But the tour content turned out to be different from what I expected,so I canceled the next day. Unfortunately most of the money was not refunded. They hadn't even made any arrangements for hotels or tickets yet. This is an unreliable company.Written 6 July 2024
- patriciaoW3566YE0 contributionsLet the Buyer BewareWe ( 2 Canadian seniors) recently did a trip to the Horn of Africa with Across Travel Tours. There were some major planning issues with this travel agency. They responded to my concerns in a patronizing tone blaming us for the issues. We spent almost $10.000 and expected better service. I do take responsibility for the following: 1. I should have used a travel agency based in Africa that had knowledge of how things work . 2. I did buy a second visa to Ethiopia as they suggested, but it turns out I needed 3. I should have listened to my consulate and not them. 3. I was informed by my consulate and Ethiopian airlines that if all our airline tickets had been booked on one reference number- I would not have needed any visas $80 usd pp x 3). The airlines would have provided hotel rooms with dinner x 3 and saved us considerable cost. When I informed Across Africa about this I received no sympathy, concern, or help. I was told I was trying to break the rules of the country. Upon entry, on all 3 occasion we were asked why our flights/plans were booked this way. I do take responsibility for choosing a travel agency that is uninformed. 4. We were required to take another 2 hotel rooms in Addis Abba even though we already had one booked through the agency and we did have a visa. This was our problem of course because we did not book with a travel agency that is aware of all the requirements and nuances of booking in Ethiopia. 5.,the trip cost us $1000 usd more because of these issues which could have been avoided if booked properly, On each of the 3 entries to Addis Abba we spent 90 min. Just trying to get in with the hotels and visas we had. This was all our fault of course. 6. No refund for the extra expenses was offered. Let the buyer beware- choose an agent situated in the country you are going to. Another issue, we booked this trip with a quotation of approximately $4500 . Then we booked our overseas flight. The travel agency then doubled the price saying they made a mistake. We tried and could not refund our flights so we went forward. Yes, again our mistake for not recognizing the ‘bait and switch’. Use Across Africa at your own risk.Written 8 June 2024
- becscie0 contributionsGEAT DAYS IN THE WILDBack from a safari organized by Africa Tours. What a memorable experience! We stayed at Thula Thula Game Reserve for four days during which we not only visited the reserve itself but also had tours at a neighbouring game reserve and an aquatic reserve. All our displacements were synchronized perfectly and went without an itch. We saw an abondance of animals, the lodging was very comfortable in a rustic decor and the food was excellent. It goes whiteout saying that we will again retain Africa Tours for our futur projects. Jean & Loraine R.Written 7 June 2024
- carolinekP5355LC0 contributionsAwful experience on shore excursion in Dakar and Goree IslandWe had a shore excursion booked that was a nightmare. The traffic was crazy due to the new prime minister being sworn in on the same day as our visit. The tour guide should have changed the order of our tour so we didn't spend half the time stuck in traffic and waiting for a ferry to Goree Island. The Ferry was not on schedule and we missed parts of the morning tour to get on the 12:30 ferry. The ferry didn't leave until 1:40 pm. Some people left the tour and went back to the ship themselves. The highlight of this trip was to see the Slave House. We got to Goree Island at 2 pm. We had to be back on the cruise ship at 5:30. Many of us suggested skipping lunch and going to see the slave house OR order lunch and go see the slave house and come back and eat. We sat for an hour at the restaurant. They wanted us to pay for beers and drinks. After an hour some of us never got our lunch. The ferry was still off schedule and we had been told we would get a ferry at four. The ferry came at 3:30. We were rushed around the slave house for about 15 minutes. We didn't hear what the tour guide was saying. We ran to the ferry but they wouldn't let us on the 3:30 ferry. One lady did make it from our group. Now we had to wait until 4:50 pm for the next ferry. We were all nervous that we would miss the cruise ship. We got back at 5:25 and no communication to keep the group together or to tell us get on the bus very quickly. Traffic to the ship was horrendous. We arrived at 5:55 and luckily we got on the ship. I know we take a risk not going on tours with the cruise ship but this was a reputable company and I would have expected them to communicate with the group, the restaurant, and the ferry to make sure the day was less stressful. Our tour guide was arguing with another tour guide and it was very unprofessional. They both got meals to take home while some of us never got anything to eat. We easily could have skipped lunch and had a nice visit to the slave house and made the 3:30 ferry and got back on the ship by 4:30. I did complain and ask for some reimbursement but was refused. No accountability for the bad communication, missing parts of our tours and the stress of thinking we were not getting back on that ship. Our cruise ship had left 8 people behind at a previous African port so we all had made it clear to our guide we didn't want to be late. Beware using this company.Written 15 May 2024

- ALien890 contributionsHow do you get in touch with somebody at Across Africa Tours?I try to reach somebody at AAT about an existing reservation. Down payment is done, but some details still need attention. I've called both numbers, emailed, messaged at facebook - as far as I can tell, they don't exist. Some of you wrote that you actually work with somebody at AAT on your reservations. Would somebody be kind enough to share how you accomplished it? Thanks, AlWritten 13 February 2024
- texjapones0 contributionsAsk Megan to Customize Your TripWe read positive reviews about AAT on Cruise Critic Roll Call website. We started to work with Megan over a year before our cruise to arrange customized 4 nights-5 days safari trip. Not knowing the area, she has been helping us to organize port pickup from Maputo, Mozambique, lodge at Umkumbe, transportation from the lodge to Nelspruit Airport, and flight to Cape Town, South Africa. She even organized pre-trip video conference to answer questions for the people who booked on the cruise. I normally plan all of my trips but was nervous about visiting Africa where I am not familiar with any of the travel options. Megan’s plan went well. It was a lovely lodge with great safari guides. We were VERY LUCKY to see Big 5 on the first 2 days, baby hyenas, wild dogs and many more. Contact Megan for any Africa tour!Written 31 January 2024
- wendycE6193TC0 contributionsTour was fine. Dealings with money, not great. This company gave me a refund for an overpayment and didn't confirm the account number they were sending it to. Their mistake ended up costing me $268USD on which I could not get a refund. Also, at the time of purchase, I downloaded the brochure from their website, which included most lunches and had a lower price than I had been charged. They refunded the money (see statement above) but did not honor the lunches.Written 2 January 2024
- Cosmopolitan4201940 contributionsAmazing Namibia experienceFirst Africa visit for our family was a big hit. The combination of spectacular Namibian landscapes and our wonderful guide/driver Shawn Kashima made for a memorable experience. Over a 4-day period we saw so much, from a full day in Etosha where Shawn knew just where and when to go for super wildlife viewing, to Swakopmund and Walvis Bay where sand dunes converge with the Atlantic. Lodging choices were comfortable after long days on the road, especially the charming Etosha Village lodge just outside the national park. There was plenty of room in our modified Landcruiser safari bus and a flat tire was handled with aplomb. We hope to return for a longer visit and were very pleased with our tour.Written 3 December 2023
- melissak2100 contributionsEXCELLENT AND THE BEST COMPANY for MADAGASCAR!!!!My Across Africa Tour was EXCELLENT!! Megan the booking agent did an excellent job with this Madagascar trip! It was FANTASTIC! this is why...the hotels were very good to excellent all very comfortable and CLEAN, with good to very good food all the way. ( all of the swimming pools clean and wonderful to have a dip) The guide Roberto a true professional and the driver Coco just excellent, both always smiling and willing to do anything for the guest. The properties selected exceeded my expectations, this is Africa you don't come for comfort and good food, but you I get it this these properties. One main reason this plan was so excellent was they provide two internal FLIGHTS. THIS IS HOW IT NEEDS TO BE DONE...with out these flights, it would have been longer days of driving which aren't necessary. Many companies don't offer internal flights at all. The choices of where to go in 15 days were PERECT, perfectly CURATED, it was a MAGICAL TRIP, SO THANK YOU... On my tour there was a very miserable guest DAVE HARPER, who just wasn't happy from the moment he arrived and tortured everyone including Across Africa Tours to leave the group tour after two days, not sure why? NO OTHER TOUR COMPANY WOULD DEAL WITH THIS LIKE ACROSS AFRICA DID, to try to assist him in leaving the group and going on his own during peak season with limited availability is unheard of, you join a group and you are with the group, PERIOD, I was happy in my own experience, and I know when you are with a group you just need to deal with the people on the tour. I just couldn't believe how great Across All of Africa dealt with him to make him happy.. they bend over BACKWARDS to please their guests.....As a owner of a Travel agency, I am looking forward to recommending their services for any of their trips, Madagascar was just WONDERFUL...Written 11 November 2023
- 891thomasd0 contributionsHappy to take your money and provide zero serviceA very poor tour organization with little care for the paying client. From the outset Across Africa Tours made a complete mess of arranging my recent tour. To make things worse, they exhibit very poor communication, and a lack of professional standards were repeatedly evident in dealing with Across Africa Tours. Don't make the mistake of giving this organization any of your hard-earned money when considering your next holiday.Written 30 June 2023
- Michael S0 contributionsVery kind organization when we reached out for help!My friend and I have been working to organize a trip around east Africa and we ran into some logistical challenges when trying to book lodging and activities in areas without a lot of tourism infrastructure. We reached out to Across Africa Tours for some logistical assistance and Tecla (one of the team members) was SO NICE to try and help us arrange these activities on our behalf. Many thanks for your kindness!Written 29 May 2023
- jochenh3310 contributionsMadagaskar- TraumreiseDear Africa Across Team. Our trip took place from 18.04 to 31.04. in Madagascar. After our arrival, we unfortunately had to find out that the final tour booking was missed. Thanks to the tour guide Tucky on site, our trip became an unforgettable experience. Our express thanks therefore go to Tucky, the travel companion Chantal and our driver Christian. Due to their uncomplicated and organizationally excellent work, we had wonderful days in a breathtaking country. We can highly recommend this tour and wish you the same beautiful experiences.Written 9 April 2023
- travelwithtoya0 contributionsA Great Safari ExperienceI had a great experience with AATT'S Safari for Cruisers. The itinerary was tailor made for our overland adventure where we departed our ship in Maputo, Mozambique and rejoined in Cape Town 7 days later. All drivers were timely and courteous. They were knowledgeable about the various visa/immigration checkpoint procedures. Lodging was very adequate. The Thornhill Lodge near Kruger was rustic but clean and comfortable with a family atmosphere. Be ready for South Africa 's "load shedding" electric blackouts -- extra phone battery packs and personal flashlights/torches highly recommended. Our upgraded Zimbabwe lodging at Pioneers made us feel like the rich and famous. It is a new property with many lovely touches. The game drives in both the Kruger area as well as Chobe in Botswana were exciting and loads of fun. We saw 4 of the big 5 the first day in Kruger. All Subsequent drives were equally rewarding. The guide-drivers were extremely knowledgeable about animals, reptiles, birds, and plants-- thus whatever our taste, they were able to adress it and find an example, if not the exact critter we were hoping to see. The Victoria Falls portion was over the top-- right season for a full experience. The local operator had clean, sturdy rain coats with hoods for anyone who did not bring their own. It was great to see both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides of the Falls. The tour included two memorable river cruises -- a relaxing cocktail & heavy hors d'oeuvres sunset cruise on the Zambezi and an afternoon safari cruise on the Chobe. The latter provided a different safari experience with close ups of elephants, hippos and buffalo's as well as water fowl. We also had a fun cultural experience with the Boma dinner and drum show where we could sample game meats and traditional southern African dishes and see dance and musical performances with optional audience participation. The flights with AirLink were very nice! We couldn't have asked for a better overall safari experience. Note the Safari experience itself was 5 star. We had a couple of logistical glitches which brought my review stars to Very good.Written 16 March 2023

If it weren't for our local guide that were amazing and did the hard work, this rating would be completely lower. When we agreed to book on this trip we were given the itinerary along with our hotel stays. But none of the places we stayed were what was advertised!!! Even if we say "of similar" accommodations, they were not even equivalent to the price range of the one we paid on. Failed to notify us of any changes. It was completely frustrating as this was our honeymoon. The worst part is that we have made our complaint to them and they have not even attempted to reach us while we were there to explain what happened. Completely dishonest!

Even during the difficult situation of COVID-19, the tour was well operated. The tour guide was kind enough to show me around. Especially in this time, I was impressed to see that he brought his own sanitizer and sanitized his hands regularly. He was mostly representing my preference on my request. Thank you.

We booked this tour with this company through Viator and it got cancelled 48 hours before depature, so we stood there empty-handed with a luke warm apology during peak season. We had no alternative place to stay, no airport pick-up anymore since it was all part of the package and no desert experience. Although a cancellation was mentioned as a possibility in the fine print we were absolutely not expecting this during peak season when every other tour was booked solid. It caused a lot of anxiety and stress and we were lucky enough to find a last-minute-replacement with the super friendly and helpful people from Detour Africa Tours. Cancellations on such short notice are a total no-go and turn-off. Never happened to me before and I travelled lots of countries all over the world. They put the blame on Viator - well, then they should not work with Viator anymore since it is definitely pissing off tourists. Would never book with them again - unreliable and nerve-wrecking. Nothinh you need on your vacation.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for taking your time to write us a review. We deeply regret the inconvenience and stress caused by the cancellation of your tour, especially during peak season. We understand how frustrating it must have been to be left without accommodations or transportation.
We strive to provide the best possible service, and your feedback is valuable, and I assure you we’re taking steps to improve our contingency plans to prevent such situations in the future.
We also appreciate you bringing the issue with Viator to our attention. While we work closely with partners like Viator to deliver a seamless experience, we will review our partnership to ensure that it aligns with our commitment to customer satisfaction.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your travels.
