We had a 5 day private tour of Queen Elizabeth Park and Gorilla trekking with our wonderful guide Emma. Emma knew the answer to everything we asked, had the best connections with everyone we dealt with and was simply the nicest guy to spend 5 days with! - SabrineD170 contributionsBeautiful trip to the Pearl of AfricaWe did a 3 week Uganda tour with guide Chris gorilla boy by our side. We had a lovely stay and are very happy how Katona arranged our trip. Chris was very friendly and told us numerous facts and stories about Uganda. We felt very safe in the company of Chris, even more so because he basically speaks every local language there is in Uganda and knows a lot of rangers and colleagues in the Tourism sector. Would definitely recommend a trip with Chris!Written 21 May 2024
- violap4820 contributionsA fantastic mother-daughter bucket list experience with Katona Tours and Travel! From our first contact with this company, they were very helpful in organising the trip for us. The communication by WhatsApp was excellent whilst booking this experience as we had lots of questions. We were able to book the trek at short notice and were picked up early in the morning at our hotel in Kigali by Zikereta Heidy who was just the most amazing guide we could ask for. He was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all our questions and even give us a quick situational awareness on our surroundings during the long drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park. Once there we were checked in and met up with the group we would trek with. We started the trek accompanied by aides and trackers. The Guide ‘love’ on the trek was very good, ensured the group stayed together and made the climb up to the Gorillas fun! He informed us on the protocols once we got to the gorillas. After climbing for a couple of hours we got to see the Gorilla family we were assigned to and spent an hour with them. Everyone in our group was just mesmerized. It was a surreal experience to see them up close in their natural habitat. Amazing!!! On returning from the trek, we stopped at a local restaurant for lunch with Heidy. It was the perfect end to a perfect day, and as we settled back into our transportation, Heidy kept showing us landmarks on our journey back to Kigali. We would highly recommend Katona Tours and Travel and especially Zikereta Heidy as your guide for this activity. Thank You for an amazing trip!Written 26 March 2024
- mariajesusf7810 contributions7 day road trip Uganda-RwandaWe did a 7 day tour through Uganda and Rwanda, including gorila tracking, chimpanzee tracking, lake Miranda, lake Kivu. Chris the gorila boy was our guide, couldn’t have been better, very flexible to our needs, a fun trip companion, easygoing, good driver, and well organized. Amazing countries and views! The only issue was that none of the original acomodations matched with where we ended up staying, which was a surprise since they didn’t inform us on time. Of course Chris had no idea and only followed the itinerary. Would definetely recommend!Written 23 March 2024
- mfrye60 contributionsGame drives, trekking, and so much moreI actually did a 12 day tour with this company and Kennerh was our guide. It was myself and my niece Jessica who went. I was blown away at how incredible this experience was. Kenneth was amazing and went out of his way to make sure we experienced everything. We saw the big 5 many times over, we were so lucky with our trip and were so glad to be partnered with Kenneth on this once in a life time experience. Jackie who arranged everything was also great. We kept changing things around and she helped us plan everything without complaint. We also went chimpanzee and gorilla trekking. All I can say is WOW. I'm telling you, this is the company you should hire for your safari in uganda. What a truly magical time. I will never forget my time in beautiful uganda. Thank youWritten 5 March 2024
- jabaril20180 contributionsDecember 2023 - Gorilla TrekkingI booked a Gorilla Trekking tour on short notice, and immediately after confirming the reservation, Jackie reached out to assist me in obtaining the gorilla trekking permit. She coordinated with the guide, Chris (affectionately known as Gorilla Boy), and confirmed that he would pick me up around 4:30 am. On the day of the trekking event, Chris arrived at 4:30 am and gave me a call to inform me that he was waiting in the hotel parking lot. During the journey to the park, Chris provided me with informative details about the park, including information about the four volcanoes in the area and other safari trips available to me. Upon reaching the main area, we enjoyed cakes and coffee at the orientation center, where I was introduced to my trekking group, trackers/rangers, and fellow gorilla trekkers. The hike was somewhat technical but not overly challenging. Fortunately, it did not rain that day, and despite being in the jungle, I didn't get bitten by any bugs. The guides, including Chris, were patient with all trekkers, irrespective of their fitness levels, and we took frequent breaks to refuel, hydrate, and catch our breath. Before reaching the gorillas, the rangers educated us on how to behave in the presence of the gorillas to ensure our safety and respect for the animals. We spent approximately 1 hour with the Gorillas and took many photos of the silverback, babies and the rest of the troop. On the way back to the hotel, we had lunch at a fantastic restaurant in Musanze, concluding the trip on a high note.Written 15 January 2024

We spent 2 days trekking in Bwindi Uganda with Kenny as our guide. We were picked up in Kampala for a long drive to the national park. We stayed at Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge witch was an amazing place. Definitely 5 stars. Our guide Kenny was amazing. Very knowledgeable with 20 years working as a ranger in national parks. Katona Tours arranged everything and every step of the process was well planned. Each day with the Gorillas was different. 1 day the Gorillas we’re laying around and we watched them rest and the kids play. The 2nd day we saw a different group with 2 silverbacks that was on the move and we covered a lot of territory as they foraged on the move. Both days were amazing. I highly recommend Katona Tours, Kenny and Kiho Lodge.

We had a 6 day tour of Uganda with Chris from Katona! The trip was amazing! We travelled with our two daughters and our guide was patient and thoughtful! He was extremely knowledgeable regarding gorillas and chimpanzees. He had extensive experience and was always willing to share! I am already planning our next trip! We saw both gorillas and chimpanzees and both were amazing! A dream come true!

Don't get me wrong, this was an amazing experience.
I can't really give more than 3/5 because this is advertised falsely: it's not a "two day gorilla trek", it's one day of transportation and one day of trekking. You get ONE HOUR with the gorillas.
I guess I didn't read the description well enough, but the headline is still false in my opinion.
Be sure to bring proper gear because it rains a lot and the forest is very thick (I feel like I wasn't really briefed on this, but I enjoyed the challenge. Others might not.)
In any case, my guide Chris the gorilla boy 🦍was great; such a humble, friendly and knowledgeable person.
The communication from Katona was swift. The lodge where I stayed was very cool with a fireplace, good food and friendly staff.

Arrived in Entebbe to be greeted by our guide Chris ( Gorilla Boy). Spent the night in a beautiful bed and breakfast Via Via. The following day we flew to Murchison Falls with Chris. Accommodations were beautiful. The following day we experienced a great game drive in which we saw Lion, Leopard, Elephants and numerous other animals. This was my fourth trip to Africa. Second to East Africa. The following day Murchison Falls. Oh my! AMAZING! Make sure you stay for at least an hour. A natural wonder.
Off to Biwindi for some Gorilla trekking. This was my second experience in Uganda. It’s a hour and a half drive up the mountain for accommodations. Beautiful scenery. Uganda is incredibly clean and friendly people. Chris was amazing. His knowledge of the mountains and areas made for an excellent experience.
The trip was incredible, flawless and full of adventure that my wife Carolyn and I will never forget. Memories for a lifetime. Thank you Chris, we will definitely be back. Your friends,
Roger and Carolyn Froehlich

We just completed our tour starting in Rwanda, visiting Genocide Memorial before being transferred to Uganda to visit the gorilla's in Bwindi.
We really wanted to see both attractions, but with the permits being cheaper in Uganda it ended up more cost effective for us.
Our guide Kenneth was great, waited for us outside the airport and taught us so much about Rwanda and Uganda along the way.
We stopped at a local place Kenneth knew for lunch and it was delicious!
Kenneth was previously a gorilla ranger so he knew about the different groups and was an asset to have.
Seeing the scenery along the way was fantastic.
Jackie was also very helpful during the booking progress and made sure everything ran smoothly. She even organised us a free upgrade, thank you Jackie that was brilliant!
The border crossing does take a considerable amount of time and this was the only downfall, but the tour still outweighed this, giving us a great chance to see both countries.
Katona was fantastic and I would book with them again.
