When arriving at the park, where you will step out to make your way into the park, you instantly notice the cleaner air. Breath in, breath out!!! You find yourself inhaling deep and the smile appears. You probably will say in your mind, “Yes, this is going to be a wonderful day”.
When the permits are bought and you pass the gate, you will be hiking up the hill for 3.5km, with a steady climb of 650meters, following a small road. During the hike you will enjoy the many views over Kathmandu Valley, so you can take breaks for photographs. After a while, you will reach a pathway on the left, going up to the local nunnery called Nagi Gumba, which is a Sherpa Buddhist monastery.
When the nunnery is reached, you will be having a well-deserved lunch. Here you can sit down to relax and enjoy the panoramic scenery, waiting till the lunch is ready. This will be made by the nuns at the monastery. After the lunch you will be able to visit the inside of the monastery to learn about Buddhism.
Then it’s time to go hiking again down to the gate.
An alternative is to have an overnight at the Shivapuri Heights Cottage, which is at the bottom of the hill, where you can recover from the hike with a nice dinner, followed by a breakfeast in the morning. The cottage is charming and has some stunning views.
The car will pick you up to bring you back to your hotel.
