About
This professionally designed climbing itinerary takes you to the acclimatization hike to the most popular trekking destination of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthhar first for the close-up views of Mt. Everest before scaling the Island Peak. It was the name given to the mountain in 1952 by Eric Shipton who thought it to be reminiscent of an island in a sea of ice. It is also known as “Imja Tse” in the local Sherpa language.

Mar 2019 • Friends
I did this trekking last February. Our tour guide was Ram. Because it was the winter time, it was very cold the last few days before reaching EBC. I consider myself a good mountain climbers. In the States, I have climbed to the peaks of Mount Shasta and Mount Whitney. I have also climbed to the peak of Cotopaxi in Ecuador, which is over 19,000 ft. EBC is only 17,000+ ft. But my EBC journey was not very smooth from the start. First, my luggage did not arrive with me to Kathmandu. I had to trek the first two days without proper shoes and clothing. My luggage finally arrived the third day. Thanks to the porters from Ace the Himalayan, my luggage was carried to me the third day. It has been a year and I should not have forgot the names of our two porters because they were so strong and helpful to me for my ordeals of this trekking experience as I will explain later. When I finally received my hiking boots, I immediately put it to use the third day. Unfortunately the hiking boots that I have used to do mountain trekking over the years broke. The snow entered into my boots. I had to switch back to the trail running shoes I wore to the plane and used to hike for the first two days. Luckily it was waterproof. Due to my past successful mountainneering experiences, I think I was over confidence and was trekking in a much faster pace than I should. The night before I reached EBC, I lost my appetite and could not fall in sleep. The next day, although I reached the top of EBC, I started to feel a sign of mountain sickness when trekking back to the lodging from EBC. That night, I felt tired and completely lost my appetite. Ram took my oxygen level and it was only 42%. I understood the life danger of mountain sickness. I told Ram that I had to hike down to the lodge we stayed the night before, which was 1,000 meters lower in altitude. Ram found two more porters to aid our two porters to help to carry and lift me to trek down at night with extreme cold. I felt much better in the lower altitude. I however still suffered some mountain sickness the next morning, although much subdued. Ram and I decided to request a helicopter to take me directly back to Kathmandu. That was my story. Too bad that I did not complete the journey. I like to thank Ace the Himalayan, the guide Ram and the two amazing porters (sorry that I forget their names) to arrange my one way trekking to the top of EBC and safely
bringing me back to Kathmandu.

What an amazing trip! Ace the Himalaya has everything taken care of and all their staff were great to work with. Pemba Sherpa was our fearless mountain guide and helped my husband and I hike to Everest Base Camp and summit Island Peak. He was a very experienced guide and always made us feel at ease during the trip. We’d recommend this trip and him as a guide to anyone! Thanks, Pemba. Will never forget this trip.

My wife and I partnered with Ace to complete the base camp trek and summit of Island Peak. From arrival to departure, every aspect of the trip was so smooth and thoughtfully orchestrated. HUGE shout-out to Pemba Sherpa, our climbing guide, for stepping with us every way to the summit. And also for Sajiya and Prem, who responded to every question in incredible timeliness, and insured everything went to plan.

All around, can't recommend Ace enough - and I'd suggest you ask for Pemba if you're doing Island peak!

Choose to go with Ace the Himalaya because of their previous positive reviews and the value for money for this trip. We did a lot of research into other companies but felt that Ace could meet our needs.

The whole trip from start to finish was fantastic and I would 100% recommend it to anyone considering doing it.

We were the first group of the season for this particular trek to EBC & Island Peak with Ace, which meant that we had Pemba as our sherpa from start to finish (usually he only does the Island Peak summit part of the trip) and then we had Dhan as our porter who was an absolute legend!

Pemba knew all the in's and outs of getting to EBC and then when it came to Island Peak, we were the first group of the season to summit because he just knew it back to front and was able to get us up (12 groups had tried and were unable to summit prior to us).

Both of those guys made our trip fun and enjoyable!

I believe this company may have some amazing trekking guides, I met a few of them and they seem to be pretty cool people.

However, stay away from this company if you plan to go for a solo/private trip. They will assign you beginner trekking guide who do not speak much english and didn't do much other than arranging food and accommodation. The one assigned to me looked very uninterested to be there and kept playing with his phone and walked way ahead of me. Also instead of encouraging me to keep going, he kept telling how hard the next day is going to be and try to persuade me to start heading back instead of keep going. I'm not in the fittest condition, but I managed to complete my daily trek in less time than proposed time.
