About
Explore the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a World Heritage Site, by train from Bangkok. You will meet your group at Bangkok’s impressive central train station where we jump on a train to Bang Pa-in. The tour will start with the 17th century Summer Palace. Inside the palace, you will see a perfect blend of oriental and western architectural styles. After that you will take a boat out of Bang Pa-in island, heading to the old capital city, where we will see local people who are still working and thriving on farming and agriculture. Upon arrival you’ll enjoy lunch, then it’s time to start exploring Ayuthaya by bike. Visiting Wat Mahathat a ruined temple typical of Ayuthaya and famous for the Buddha head engulfed in a tree trunk. The tour will then take you to explore the Ayutthaya Historical Park, visiting Wat Rachaborana with the main Stupa is one of the finest in the city.

A Day Full of Adventure
An incredible experience! Highly recommend. Mr Ex was an excellent guide. Full of information and genuinely excited to share it. The day was well planned but also flexible enough to engage in whatever came up. We saw and learned much more than we could have on our own. Well worth it. Truly grateful for the experience.

An amazing day
Nov 2019
This was such a uniquely Thai tour! We took a lot of local transport throughout this tour which was so great because without our wonderful, knowledgeable guide,Tony, we would not know how to use any of it. We were a little nervous about finding our guide in the train station but once we easily found the spot to assigned to meet, our guide appeared. Throughout the trip every time we turned around we were seeing fantastic sites and experiencing it in ways we never could have on our own. The timing was just perfectly managed so that we got to the amazing sites at just the right time so there were not huge lines or a lot of waiting. The restaurant we went to in Ayutthaya was great and they helped us with one of our family members who had diet restrictions.
The cycling through the Ayutthaya ruins was the best way to tour this huge site, creating a cool breeze for ourselves in this hot climate, while seeing the most. It was a full, wonderful day and we have our great guide, Tony, as well as the people at Jamming Thailand to thank for such a wonderful experience. Do bring your camera, north of Bangkok has many memorable sights! Do remember to wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees as we had to buy some extra clothes at the Royal Summer Palace to comply with their rules for admission. Leave all the rest to the super guide you are sure to have on this unique and enjoyable tour. You will be walking and biking so be prepared for some exercise.

Amazing cycling adventure among the ancient routes
Mar 2019 • Couples
Because we’re always on the lookout for great adventures even with ‘impossible’ time constraints, our last day in Bangkok on 19 March 2019 presented just such an opportunity after hastily booking a trip on TripAdvisor from the hotel room.

So it turned out that my husband and I met our guide, Inseewong Phacharaphol or “Mr X”, early in the morning at 06:40 am in Hua Lamphong station. He soon turned out to be the most accommodating, delightful, friendly, and informed local guide we’ve come across for some time.

Just after 7:30 am the three of us left Bangkok in a North-bound regional train and soon saw rice paddies, palms and agricultural holdings speeding past before reaching Bang Pa-In station, where we disembarked into the bright morning sunshine. From here we took a local taxi to the nearby Bang Pa-In palace, where a walk-about bolstered by Mr X’s narratives became a wonderful account of royal life at the summer palace. Even he himself was beyond delight that the royal palace itself was at last restored in all its colourful, detailed glory, uncustomary without any obscuring scaffolding whatsoever on that day!

About an hour later we left the palace grounds and walked the few meters down to the pier where a long boat was waiting for us. Once on board, it speedily ferried us up the busy Chao Phraya River. Mr X explained parts of everyday life along the river and some of the challenges locals experience during the monsoon season. After about 15 km upstream we reached the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district where it nestles between three rivers. Stepping back on land, we hopped onto our hired bicycles that Mr X arranged and then he started navigating us safely through the ancient landscapes and ruins. At around midday we stopped for a well-deserved rest at a canteen spilling in to the street and frequented by students. Here he treated us with some delicious local food and beverages.

After the light lunch we proceeded to visit the Phra Buddha Sai Yat at Wat Lokayasutharam, the Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, and Wat Maha That together with the intriguing Buddha head encased in a Banyan tree, to mention but a few astounding sights we’ve been fortunate enough to see and experience. Moreover, since Inseewong lived here before, he captivated us with his impressive knowledge and ability to recount historic facts and fascinating folklore of these magnificent places.

We leisurely cycled our way back to return the hired bicycles before walking to the taxi rank a few meters away. Leaving at around 3 pm for the 80 km drive back to Bangkok, lady luck smiled upon us again as Highway 32 and 31 was relatively clear and we reached the MRT train in time to be reunited at around 5 pm with all our luggage at Hua Lamphong’s safe lock-away facility. Mr X, the ever-concerned soul, then accompanied us right up to Makkasan station where after a hasty, but hearty farewell our ways parted and, as promised, we were well in time for our departure flight from Suvarnabhumi airport just after 8 pm!

We can highly recommend the Ayutthaya and Summer Palace Cycling tour, and the guide, Inseewong Phacharaphol (Mr X) – and especially so if you do not have a flight to catch .
