It was a great experience. Everything was on schedule and went very smoothly. The long tail boat ride was fun and it was a great entrance into the bridge by water. The train ride was fun too as you get to see beautiful scenery all along the way. Thank you May and Tak from I Asia Thailand who're excellent.

This has got to be one of the most special trips I had in Thailand. Em is an expert in the history of the destinations we visited. He also knows where the good spots are for taking pictures. He even took the pics himself and made sure we look awesome in them. As a solo traveler, he managed to have me get along with other tourists in the group.

A brilliant and interesting day out. The journey was very comfortable to the River Kwai. The vehicle was spacious air conditioned and the driver gave us refreshing cold water and towels. Our guide Aey also made sure we had plenty of snacks for the journey and gave us plenty of interesting information on the way. The bridge was beautiful and a great landmark for many photos. We also loved the long tailed boat ride and lunch was superb. The train was so much fun and lasted well over an hour too. We also visited the museum and also the cemetery. An excellent and memorable day. Would definitely recommend this tour and thanks to I Asia Thailand for all the arrangements.

Our group of 5 had our own guide and bus which picked us up and dropped us back at our hotel. The journey there and back was long, 3 hrs each way with traffic. The speedboat ride was especially good. The cemetery was sombre and good to pay our respect. The museum wasn't that good. The train had been cancelled so our guide was too concerned with rearranging the time than explaining about the museum. Lunch was also very good set in beautiful surroundings and the Bridge magnificent. You won't be disappointed and definitely worth the long journey to get there

Excellent day with tour of cemetery, museum and train journey was lovely.
Perhaps tour guide could provide more information on the train journey as he gave details in the museum and on the bus but noticed other tour operators seem to provide more details

I Asia Thailand contacted me before to reconfirm my booking. Picked k up at 6am and road trip took 2 hrs to this beautiful province. The Itinerary included the pow cemetery, jeath museum, river kwai boat ride (amazing!) and the train ride. Paid additional 300baht to upgrade the train seats which was well worth it. We also had a delicious buffet lunch which was included. A great day and with some much included, its amazing value.

Dear Guest, Happy to investigate this for you and see if we went wrong so please do email me and can look into your comments. For the driver we also have GPS on board and our office is flagged if a driver goes over the speed limit but looking for past 7 days we have no instances. Please email nick@iasiathailand.com and I will also share investigations. Thanks. Nick

This was one of the worst tour experiences we’ve had, on multiple fronts. About all I can say positive is that we did see what they said, and did return to our hotel after a very long, uncomfortable day.

Our first, unannounced stop (after collecting all tour members) was a gas station where the driver filled the tank and picked up our guide. Guess it’s not possible to do that in advance of boarding customers. May not seem like a big deal until you experience 3 hours in the cramped van they used to shuttle us (oh, that’s 1 way. You get over 3 hours more on the way back). Geography is what it is but passenger comfort is controllable by a tour operator. This tour company must have missed that lesson in customer service school.

Next, let’s update potential patrons on what is described as a “professional Thai guide”. Thai, yes; professional, certainly not. This “professional” ate his breakfast in the van, received and answered phone calls while he was in the middle of explaining things to us, was checking his stock picks and other “websites”, and even fell asleep in the van on the return trip. I think it fair to say that we, the paying customers, were not the center of attention for our dear guide. But that’s not the best, professional, part. By a long shot.

While walking us through the JEATH museum (really just a thatch hut with photos) this guy stopped at a photo of three somewhat emaciated prisoners, wearing loin cloths, at a latrine. He “pressed us” for an answer to this question: “why aren’t these guys wearing clothes?” After shaking off a few answers from we uninformed tourists he proceeded to give us the following answer: “because the Japanese like Sumo” and these guys reminded them of that. Mind you, this was WITHIN a museum dedicated to telling a story about how over 90,000 POW died. After he finished his little chuckle he acknowledged this was not true (really?) and that the real answer was to prevent POWs from hiding weapons. Which part of this experience is “professional”? This guide should be dismissed.

The rest of the day was about as inspiring. Skip the boat ride. There were safety issues in that they didn’t give everyone a life jacket, they took off rather recklessly without notice and it’s quite uncomfortable (for the entire 5 or 10 minutes it lasted). Stated differently, forget trying to take pictures from the boat.

The train ride basically took us 90 minutes through what is now mostly farmland, to ...you might have guessed... a little shopping mall. I saw no one from our group that wanted to acquire anything but there was also a little temple in a cave one could walk to. Then, On to the “buffet lunch” - not. Best described as a few items served family style. Not bad, but just about any reason to be out of the van was welcome at this point.

We spent quite a bit of van time on the return trip trying to determine just how much to tip this “professional”. Thank goodness he solved that problem for us by disembarking along the side of the road about a half hour before the driver got the paying customers back to their respective stops. No guide, no tip. Seemed like a fine solution all around.

I cannot urge you more strongly to avoid this operator.

Dear toginandover, Thanks for your s 2 star review and I have looked up and have asked the guide AKE and he has mentioned at no point during the 8 hours you actually said anything to him about your disappointment on this tour. You were taken to the points that are advertised, the JEATH Museum (this was built by an abbot who was the leader in thatch buildings in kanchanaburi) the boat is included (life jackets are on the platform before you depart, the train ride yes its 90 minutes as advertised....... I am not sure if you expected an other tour BUT you were given what was advertised and in fact the couple from Australia who were on your bus actually sent an email to our customer services manager Christopher thanking us. I would urge you speak to the guide on any tour as they are there to look after you and change the plans of the day as well. Thanks, Nick

The pick up arrived at 6.00am!! Then we waited outside the next hotel for almost 30 minutes for next group to be ready to be picked up, then 5 minutes later I was transferred to another bus for the tour. This bus had been waiting for me for 30 minutes!! There were only three of us on the tour which was nice. The bus was old and rattled most of the way. The war cemetery was very peaceful and serene, worth it alone. The Jearth Museum is in a very historic spot but the display was sad, dusty and neglected. Some wonderful items that deserve better. You can’t take photos so in a few years these photos and relics will have rusted and rotted away. The river cruise was fun. It provided a spectacular view of “the bridge”. The train trip was interesting. We paid extra to get booked seats. This should be built into the pricing of the tour. Lunch was nice. The trip back slow. The guide got out once we hit Bangkok. We abandoned the trip back to the hotels after a very slow 30 minutes and caught the BTS. You can decide what was good, bad and ugly.

Dear huma37, Thank you for writing in. I suspect part of the reason you rated this tour highly was that it showed you how well-off we are today in comparison to the terrible living conditions and deaths of so POW’s in WW2. So thank you for the 4Star Rating. In response to the comments, I do regret that you were up and out of your hotel on time when the people at the other hotel weren’t so considerate and were late. I am sorry that the bus “rattled most of the way”. I’ve checked the maintenance log and there does not seem to be a bus that required fixing mid tour, so I assume the bus wasn’t too old and the “rattle” fixed itself for the remainder of the tour, which is good. The JEATH Museum is only a small country hut that is run by the monks who live in the temple next door. I can assure you that the museum is not “neglected” by them at all. I do regret if you compared it to a grand city museum with a lot of money invested in its upkeep. Whilst we do recommend paying the small amount for seats on the train we do not automatically add this into the price (there are many people who do not want seats in the train and would be upset if we did have the cost automatically added, hence it being an Option that we advertise before the tour commences). Sorry that traffic conditions on the day that you travelled caused the trip back to be a long one. If you wish to please write to Christopher@iasiathailand.com with details of your booking (name/date) i will check up on the guide who appears to have left you a bit early and deal with him accordingly. I do apologise for any inconvenience his failing may have caused. Kind regards, Christopher Product Manager - Tours & Activities Online I Asia Group

Dear kocj123, Thank you for writing. Kanchanaburi, the area of the famous Bridge over the River Kwai, the Death Railway and the other places seen and visited on this tour are a couple of hours out of Bangkok, however, most people feel the drive is well worth it as this is an extremely popular, interesting and moving tour at a very reasonable price. I Asia appreciates your booking and we’re very pleased to have been able to take you to an area we’re sure you’ll never forget.
