- caminitoamor0 contributionsThe gems of nighttime entertainment in PhuketCarnival Magic is one of the gems of nighttime entertainment in Phuket. With its vibrant and colorful atmosphere, it breaks all conventions, and it’s no surprise it holds nine Guinness World Records. It’s a perfect spot for couples and families, offering attractions for everyone. There’s never a dull moment! The buffet was delicious, but what truly amazed us were the spectacular performances and the floats in the 9:30 PM show. And I can’t skip mentioning the bathrooms; they’re out of this world! It’s the first time I’ve highlighted bathrooms in a review, but these are no ordinary ones. Highly recommended!Written 1 December 2024

It literally took 4 of us , 10 mins to clear immigration and after travelling almost 10 hours , you just want to get this part done with! It cost us only 200THB per head which is next to nothing! Definitely worth paying this amount to get your holiday started!Written 30 November 2024
- dtgolish0 contributionsA wash out dinner cruiseThis dinner cruise was booked through Gate one travel group. Our tour manager booked us a top deck seating. The skies opened up all evening in Bangkok. We waited in a crushing people line to try to get on boat. At last minute we were squeezed into a seating area in front of stairway.we had wet seats and poor service. The cruise boat should not book a packed cruise, not allowing for the frequent rain storms at this time of year. Very poor experienceWritten 30 November 2024
- ga5450 contributionsGreat bday celebrationVery pleasant dinner bday with family. We order premium with wine pairing for me and husband and to my son regular, both very good and served, although my steak was overcooked. Wine selection was pretty good and staff very kind and prompt. Service was very sincronized with the timimg in the seen spots. Was a nice expirence, recomended. No dresscode applied what maybe can lose a bit off the glaumour off a such beatifull antique boat cruise. But no complaints at all just expectation was high for a cruise named luxurious. And i very thankfull for the kindness attention and care for all the staff they make a memorable celebration.Written 30 November 2024

- sandrabillso0 contributionsLounge offers a comfortable environment before your flightI booked this online for myself and partner. The receptionist at the Lounge was warm and inviting, stamping my boarding pass and providing me with a Wi-Fi code, and escorting me into the lounge which was nice. Plenty of seats inside the lounge and wifi is included. The buffet was small but they had decent salads, hot food and desserts in 2 areas. Wine was nice and all included. For the price you paid, this is a wonderful lounge before your flight.Written 29 November 2024
- sandrabillso0 contributionsMemorable evening filled with great food and stunning viewsThe Cruise was an enchanting evening on Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River, blending fine dining with live entertainment. We sailed from Asiatique The Riverfront and the cruise features a beautifully designed ship. Included was a delicious international buffet featuring Thai, Western, Japanese, and seafood dishes. The onboard entertainment included live music and traditional Thai dance performances, and a lively cabaret show. As you eat, the cruise glides past some of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks, including Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, and Rama VIII Bridge, all illuminated in their nighttime splendor. It was a great evening at a great priceWritten 29 November 2024

- Intransitive0 contributionsAwesome dinner cruise - definitely luxurious, very clean and amazing service with a smile! We took a wonderful dinner cruise with Manohra as part of a conference side event, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my trip! Dada, Veem, Totti and Pop staffed our cruise and they were top notch! They were always ready with a smile, extra water, extra champagne haha, or extra portions of food if that was available. The bathroom was super clean - no bugs, towels to dry your hands, etc. Food was also super delicious as well as drinks! We had a multi course meal, the soup was really good is what I remember. The organizer also organized for a lovely band to be on board. Would highly highly recommend for your cruise on the Chao Praya! Much better than the others that I've seen - just having the clean, comfortable atmosphere with great service was really a step above :)Written 27 November 2024

We took a boat/ferry across the river to get here early. Easy-as...
There are lots of restaurants to have a pre-show meal (we went to Thai X Thai, which was ok)
Finding the theater was easy
The show was a bit more than an hour long; and reasonably good fun.
The theatre is not the usual seating, but has tables with seating for two, facing the stage. All very good, and great lighting
The show itself was quite ok. There's no live singing, but lip-syncing. Most of the songs were in English, there was a segment in another language; which was very interesting !
After the show, one could get pictures with the performers (at a reasonable price)
Worth a visit if you have a spare evening in Bangkok, and would rather not go to a dive in Patpong or Soi Cowboy !!

We knew what to expect from this show before going. Don't expect Broadway.. the lip syncing can be average at times, but there's not many shows like this..so just go with the flow. Beware of ticket prices however. We thought booking at the ticket office would be just as cheap as online..but 2 hours before the show, tickets at ticket office were 1200 baht. We had seen them online for as low as 700. If you use the official website and book a day ahead they only charge 900. For 1200 baht I'd give the show a miss. 900 or lower is reasonable. And don't get me started on them wanting to charge you for photos after the show!

Dear Riteoh!
Thanks for the review and we like to address the ticket prices you have mentioned.
There are various ticket prices to choose from. Example, with or without hotel transfer, standard ir VIP seat, with and without drink etc.
Its hardly fair to warn people of ticket prices when we offer a range for different budgets and you should mention this. Your review sounds that we are over charging where we are not.
Thanks,
Paul

Ok. Good performances. It is in the city and during peak city time traffic is extensive, plan your commute or cab ride accordingly. Fpr Indians, there is a Punjabi Restaurant at the entrance of Asiatique mall which is brilliant.

Nice size not too big and easy to access venue. Terrence seating so no bad seat! The “free” drink is a bottle or water or semi-warm beer- no big deal. The show itself was average. So pretty average dancing and a few pretty good dancers. The energy level from the crowd was low but for the most part the performers tried to capture the audience. Seat comfort left a lot to be desired as they were as hard as stone. The post show photo shoot was well worth it as the cast of performers are 100% dedicated to bringing joy! Engage!

First of all, why there are so many old performers? Some of them are out of shape. It is Cabaret show. I like to see the active sing and dance from young people; young vibes. The problem is that they can not dance well and not even synchronize each other.
I like Jazz but I do not care for lip-sync jazz. How many Asian audiences enjoy the Jazz? how many Asian audiences enjoy the Broadway type shows? Even in Japanese act, where is Kimono? It is very culturally insensitive. I felt insulted. Your production does not care about Asian audiences. We Asians should not watch your production. Remember who pays more.
See the shows in Pattaya and you will know what I am talking about. Your production loves the western culture so much, then at least should learn how to pronounce "sing, sing, sing" correctly?

Dear wk007,
Thanks for your review but we do not agree.
Old Performers and out of shape? We have zero tolerance with this kind of comment. Calypso has performers with all ages and shapes. It seems you are bordering on racism with the staff.
We are wondering WHY you joined us at it seems you did not enjoy any part of the show? The production and schedule is on the website, its shame you did not read this first. We have many nationalities watching the shows, including Asians, and your comment that Asians should not watch is just ridiculous.
I would URGE all customers to read prior reviews as you see Calypso has a great score.
Finally why did you NOT speak out at the venue?
You did not speak with the staff, you did not email or call us. Please have confidence and complain on the night not send a review from your keyboard without any facts.
Thanks, Paul

It's fun, it's camp and it's caberet! If you don't get that, don't go! But if that's what you like, you won't beat this. For the money, it's extremely good value.
BTW, no seats are bad seats. The semi-circle layout around the stage is very intimate. Overall, a very good experience. Just give yourself enough time to get there as the traffic at show time is extremely heavy. Even short distances take an age to travel.

As an American, I love drag culture. I’m not a drag queen myself but I enjoy a good drag performance. I went to this ladyboy show to get a sense of the drag scene in Thailand and it was relatively entertaining. They’re more about passing as women unlike American drag queens are a persona of a sort of character, like Trixie Mattel or Jinx Monsoon. If the title of the show didn’t have the word ladyboy in it I may not have noticed they weren’t ladies, with exception to a few performers you could tell were boys. Over all it was entertaining and the production value was fairly high and the cast was enormous! They seemed to be enjoying themselves and put in a fairly decent show.
However, when the show was over and you walk out to the exit, all the performers are waiting outside to greet you and practically screaming at you to take a photo with them.…..…for 50 baht, with one performer. I found this utterly tacky. I would’ve considered taking a photo with them cause it would be fun, but not for 50 baht. I was glad I went but I wouldn’t go again.

Dear Alex,
We appreciate your feedback on your recent visit to the Calypso Cabaret Show. Your review indicates a mix of experiences, and we'd like to address both the positive and negative aspects you mentioned.
This is a ladyboy show, not a drag show. So its completely unique to what you would experience in the US.
For the Photo, we are aware of this and this is why we do mention this on the website that we recommend to tip the performers if you would like a picture with themm.
Thanks and Regards,
Nick

Horrible lip-syncing, awkward choreography, clumsy costume changes make this a complete waste. They even pipe in applause, cause the audience doesn’t. Then at the end you’re shuffled thru a gauntlet of the performers begging for 100baht photo opps

Hello Dan,
Thanks for the review and I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the show.
Calypso is the longest running lady boy show in Thailand, established back in the 90s.
What you describe including the lip syncing is also mentioned on the website, including the photos.
Checking the CCTV as we have this, i see the crowd had a great time and applauded after every act.
I feel you were expecting much more than we advertised.
However thanks again,
Paul

We’ve seen the lady boy shows in Phuket previously and really enjoyed them. This show, however while spectacular in the costumes and some of the dance sequences but the music wasn’t quite as good. The music choices left a lot to be desired with songs from the mid 20th century’s bit out of step for the audience. There was a Rhianna section but that’s about it for modern songs. Asking for money for photos with the performance at the end is also a bit tacky. I got a free beer that was good.

The show was entertaining. My 2 sons (20 & 16 years old) enjoyed it. My wife felt the selection of some of the performers could be improved. Personally, I applaud the effort in putting the show together. I can see that it takes a lot of effort, training, creativity and good management for such a show to take place. The dancing moves are impressive and I suspect some of the "girls" are really girls as they look so convincing.
