- ToughRalph0 contributionsOne of the Better Cooking Class Experiences We Have Ever HadOur family of 5 enjoyed a private cooking class and morning market tour. The class atmosphere and staff made this a wonderful experience. The preparation and tasting area is well-equipped, spacious, and comfortable (and air conditioned!). The team runs an incredibly smooth operation to help with ingredients, instructions, and cleaning. The cooking area had plenty of space for everyone. The mix of learning, cooking, and preparing/chopping felt just right. The class was well-paced, as we enjoyed each dish immediately after preparing it (rather than having one big meal at the end). This was one of the better cooking class experiences we have ever had. Some standout elements of this private class: (1) By combining great instruction and the market tour, we truly felt that we learned key Thai ingredients, their flavors, and their role in each dish (and other common Thai cuisine). (2) We were able to select the menu, focusing on dishes that we were truly interested to learn and prepare. (3) We were each able to prepare our own dish, which added to the knowledge we gained. (At other cooking schools, we often find that your role is to prepare one aspect of a larger dish.) Importantly, the Thai food we prepared was delicious! We hope we prepare them as well next time, with great instruction and the recipes shared!Written 15 August 2024
- esta7709130 contributionsFun and delicious! It was wholesome experience from shopping fresh food at the biggest khlong toei market to cooking and eating at the clean and beautiful kitchen and dining table. All the ingredients are so fresh, colorful and fragrant. Recipes are easy to follow and the food we make is unbelivably delicious. I could buy some good fruits at the market with help of Alex. Food we made was a bit too much, so I brought some portion to hotel and had it for breakfast next morning which was still very good. 끄렁떠이 시장에서 신선한 채소와 과일을 장보는 것부터 요리한 음식 먹는 것까지 너무 재밌고 만족스러웠어요. 알렉스 고마워요!Written 14 June 2024

We had so much fun! Pim was our instructor. She led us through part of the local market and pointed out various items, even more than what was related to our meal. The tuk tuk ride to the studio was a nice local experience.
The school was very clean, bright and well laid out. Pim checked on food allergies prior to starting and kept preferences in mind. She made jokes as we worked. The food came out really good and was tasty. I can’t wait to make pad Thai at home.I may even try to make the mango sticky rice. And because we got to sample some mangosteen which I really liked, I got some more of it at the market afterwards. I would never have tried it otherwise.
There were 6 of us total from 3 different countries (3 in my family with 2 young adult males). We all had a good time talking as we cooked and ate together. At the end, after asking permission, photos were shared with each other. It felt like we were all friends by then.
One note for people to keep in mind when trying to find the meeting place. It is the rail station for the Queen Sirikit convention center exit 1, not the actual Queen Sirikit convention center gate 1 that comes up on the Grab app. It would be helpful to send a picture of the actual meeting site to avoid having to use extra time finding the correct place. That was the only negative thing, but thanks to Pim’s guidance via WhatsApp, we were able to just make it before the market trip. The two adult children had fun and posted it on their social media as we went along. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in Bangkok. So very glad we did this activity. And it was enough food for the afternoon.

Just superb. Fascinating to do the walk-around of the market with Chef Alex and to gain an understanding into local seasonal produce. Then an exhilarating tuktuk ride to the school for a few hours of proper hands-on cooking. So many cookery classes consist of you watching the chef prepare food, at Sabieng, it was a fully immersive experience. We prepped our ingredients for a soup and then went into the burners to bring it all together, then back out to the dining area to enjoy the fruits of our labours. And we repeated that for a noodle dish, a curry, and a delicious dessert. While we were in the cooking area, Alex monitored all our woks and gave advice on technique, temperature and timing, so we all learned a lot of super tips. We took the early morning class and I would recommend that whatever time you are booked for, come with your stomach empty because there was loads of food and every bite was delicious!
10/10 for quality produce, excellent cooking gear and superb facilities. 10/10 for a hugely knowledgeable and personable instructor in Chef Alex and 11/10 for his support team, who kept everything moving, immaculate, and provided us with everything we needed.
I will definitely be back to take a more advanced class the next time I visit Bangkok.

Lovely cooking class. We started with a short walk in the market, after which we took the Tuk Tuk to the cooking school. We made Tom Kha, Pad Thai, Penang Curry and Mango Sticky Rice. The teacher was very insightful and we enjoyed the dishes we made. If you go for this class, I recommend that you go with an empty stomach as you will be pretty full by the end of the session. We upskilled our Thai cooking skills and knowledge on the local ingredients. Try it out!

We chose this cooking school because it offers a trip to the market even for afternoon courses, which many courses don't do. We were met by Alex at the nearby station and in total were a group of 7 people. Khlong Toei market is huge and it was fascinating looking at the produce on offer and learning from our chef, Alex, about the different types of fruits and vegetables on offer.
We were then taken by taxi to the cooking school, which is modern, very clean, and has a very authentic ambience. Each person gets their own cooking station, and courses are eaten as prepared, not all at the end, which was perfect for us. Alex was an entertaining and informative guide, and we thoroughly enjoyed making: Tom kha soup, green curry, phad thai and sticky mango rice (where you also learn how to make that iconic rose shape out of the mango pieces).
It was a fantastic afternoon out, we learned so much, and we certainly didn't need to eat much for the rest of the day! (Tip: unless you are very hungry in the morning, go for the afternoon course as there's quite a lot to eat by the time you've finished!)

This was brilliant and not to be missed. We (family of 5) were shown around the biggest food market in Bangkok, learnt about all the ingredients from Pim, who had excellent English and was great fun. Our youngest was 12 and oldest 18 but we all loved it. After taking some crazy tuktuks from the market we went to the cooking school with one other couple. It was calm, hygienic, hands on and we made: pad Thai, lemongrass salad, Thai green curry and mango rice. We were very full by the end. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. We did this the day after arriving from london- as we were jet lagged a morning one didn’t suit but it’s was perfect. We were only in Bangkok for 3 days but this was time well spent.

There were only 4 people on the tour which started at an outdoor food market. Chef Alex was very knowledgeable & answered all our questions about spices, fruits and vegetables. After a short tuk tuk ride to the restaurant school, we jumped right in and started cooking. The class is hands on with students preparing the courses - Tom Yum Goong Soup, Pad Thai Goong, Green Curry Chicken, and Mango Sticky Rice. The flavors were amazing & all of the food delicious. Chef Alex was a very patient & charismatic teacher! We highly recommend Sabieng Cooking School to anyone who loves to cook.

We picked this place because it was a half day and it was cooking all of our favorites. You meet at the station and are taken to the market to pick up fresh ingredients. Pim tells you about the ingredients and let’s you taste them. Then you take a short tuktuk drive to the cooking school. It’s so cute inside. There’s a place to eat, cook and prepare. There are 4 dishes and she walks you through each one. You will be surprised at how well it tastes in just the short amount of time of starting. Every meal was as delicious as the next. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend this activity for a family or couple or even solo. You will talk to other people at the table so going alone is fine. Please please try.

Generally fun afternoon. Small stroll through the market where you can ask some questions (you won't be getting ingredients for the course though). Speedy cooking style with recipes you can actually reproduce back home with a bit of ingredient hunting (in Europe).

Was a very good experience, from the Market...to Tuk-Tuk...to Kitchen. The team made everything so simple to follow, and amazingly tasty to eat (despite my total lack of culinary training 🙈).
They took special care of my Celiac daughter, every dish was made gluten free so she could enjoy and experience every dish.
Would highly recommend to any family (we were with our two kids, 9 and 13, and both came out with as many fingers as they arrived with, and lots of delicious food memories on top)
