About
Excellent cooking class. They will picked up from the hotel and taken to the market to see the groceries. Then we made 4 dishes in the half day cooking school. Everything was easy to make and tasted delicious. Pot was our instructor and he was great and friendly. Definitely recommend. Great for vegetarians - switched out the chicken for tofu and no fish/oyster sauce.

Dinner course was fantastic!!!

For 800 baht....this cooking class cannot be topped. Cozy area. Pot, our chef teacher, was friendly and informative. Great mix of people from all over cooked with us. Ten in our group and didn't feel overly crowded. I made spicy soup with sweet basil (Tom Klong), drunken noodle, spring rolls, penang curry and banana in syrup with coconut cream. Really enjoyed making homemade curry paste. Nothing overly difficult...just fun. We got a virtual cookbook to take home as well. Great value! Do not miss!

Great experience
Mar 2020
We did the morning half day at Siam Rice cookery school. It was an amazing experience! A very welcoming and helpful cooking instructor Ann who spoke very good English and had a great sense of humour. Fresh ingredients, easy to follow instructions, delicious meals produced as a result. A long list of recipes to choose from. Would recommend!

The best experience
Mar 2020 • Solo
One word - amazing! You have have have to go and experience this. Nina & Ann were great teachers and made the class a lot of fun! They speak very good English and I learnt so many recipes to take home to my family. Beautiful setting, great kitchen. Just perfect. I will never forget this. Thank you.

Just to clear something up, there is NOT a 5 dollar discount sign for a 5 star review on trip advisor. Believe all that you read, the school is truly amazing and deserves 5* ♥️

Must do while in Chiang Mai!

Today was my second time visiting the cooking school. I came back in 2016 with a friend and loved it so much that I brought my family this time. Pot was an amazing teacher. The food was delicious! It makes a huge difference seeing what goes in your food and preparing it yourself. It really has a home feel versus a restaurant. You cool outdoors. Must try while in Chiang Mai!

Fun cooking class!
Jan 2020
We had a great time at the Siam Rice cooking class. We did the half day class where we were picked up from our hotel in the afternoon and cooked for ~4 hours. The cooking instructions, Mr. Pot and Ms. Nina, were welcoming and very funny.

The class started with a short education session about Thai ingredients and then we started cooking. I enjoyed that all the ingredients were prepared in advance so we were able to spend time during the class cooking rather than prepping. We cooked 5 items - a soup, fried item, noodle dish, curry dish and dessert. Each dish was fun to make and delicious.

I feel like we walked away with a very strong foundation for Thai cooking and we were provided with a cookbook of the items we made so we can cook them again when we are back home.

Friendly, funny, DELICIOUS!

When we came to thailand we knew we had to visit a cooking class in order to learn how to prepare some of thailands favorite dishes. This class exceeded our expectations by far. It was so interesting, well organized and entertaining! Pot, our chef explained everything and helped us wherever needed. He‘s a superb cook and always knew how to make us laugh. We stayed for the whole day and prepared 7 meals, but it is absolutely fine to take the half day course because in the end you‘re really full. :D
I really recomend this place!!

Deceptive Practices for 5 star reviews
Jan 2020 • Solo
While traveling, I often rely on Trip advisor and its reviews.
I was recently in SE Asia for six weeks and referred to Trip Advisor often.
I was troubled by something I saw when I attended Siam Rice Thai Cookery School but wasn’t sure how much I wanted to get involved with it.
While at one is their classes, there was a sign posted in the dining room that they were offering $5 off their course for anyone who posted a 5 star review and showed it to them before leaving.
This deceptive practice annoyed me and I did not take advantage of it.

This is the more complete story.
I had tried to book another cooking class in Chiang Mai which has great reviews and they were booked the one day I wanted to attend.
I looked on Trip Advisor and found Siam Rice Cookery School. I was surprised at how many five star reviews they had while their course was substantially less expensive than the other course I had tried to book.
However, based upon the Trip Advisor reviews I booked the class.

While I enjoyed the cooking and instructional aspects of the class - it was simply NOT a five star experience.
And the $5 discount for a 5 star review annoyed me because it is deceptive and is part of what inspired me to take their class. This type of practice denigrates the reliability of Trip Advisor or any other review site.

The kitchen space was outdoors next to a lot in which construction was going on. While I understand the school might not have control over neighboring construction noise it definitely impacted the class. At times it was hard to hear instructions or concentrate on cooking with the loud sounds of construction banging. More important though and within the school’s control was the cleanliness of the facilities. I understand that SE Asia and North America have different standards of cleanliness but the dining area and the bathroom were not 5 star - they were 3 star at best. The course appears to be in a private home (not a farm - although there are farm animals such as chickens and a goat in the dusty yard, it is not what I would call a “farm”)
The bathroom was just not very clean.
I stayed in a hostel in Chiang Mai whose bathroom was cleaner.
And the dining area was not aesthetically pleasing. I recall batting away flies while eating the delicious food. Again, I understand that we North Americans have different standards of cleanliness so it was not really a “problem” but it was also not a 5 star experience.

As mentioned, the $5 discount offer was posted on the wall of the dining area. It was never mentioned in an email and of course now I wish I had taken a photo of it.
However, while I was waiting for a ride back to my hotel (part of the package tour) three other students were paying for the class.
One by one the male instructor was calculating the course cost by converting the US$ price quoted into Thai Baht. Each person showed him their mobile phone and the five star review they had already posted and asked for the $5 discount. He recalculated the cost of the course with the $5 discount into Thai Baht and they paid.
During the ride home I spoke to them about this and they expressed that they just wanted their discount.

This helped me to understand the discrepancy between the volume of 5 star reviews received by this school and my personal experience.

If as a traveler we cannot rely on the truthfulness of Trip Advisor reviews, then how long until these review sites are obsolete and useless ?

Thank you very much for the reviews that you have given to my school just a 3 star grade. But it's just the feeling of you alone and your partner Mr.Ron have come to my class together as same day. But that's okay for me I accept it myself have a lot of my customer say if they can writing more then 5 star they will do for 10 star for my cooking school but on tripadvisor have only top 5 star. The important thing, now that you have made the most mistakes Because your review has insulted and abused my clients And including every surfer and the work of the Trip Advisor team as well for who wrote a 5-star review for my school in order to share a memorable experience with my school In order to understand that my school has activities and interesting to find in Thai cooking classes. It is UNFAIR to all another people or Travelers for who wrote 5 -star review for us. Things you should know about the laws of Thailand. 1. Noise. If less than 80 decibels, Thai people do not call it loud if you thing to loud for you and how all people leave here all day long like our school what they are feeling? ( Who are know the answer ? my question for all the people Travelers and Tripadvisor team use the feeling you will find the answer ) if you are human you must understanding from another people too not only you because we are stay as same world.and you just spender time take class with us only 3 or 4 hour and go back to your Hotel after class finish. 2. My school never says or says that I have a farm. Every surfer can see the back of my brochure. There is a saying that the garden And you forgot to mention that my school has 2 more dogs, one of which is white, which went to play when you sucked next to the construction site 3.bathroom not clean for you ( we have to cleaning every morning every day too ) but you have to thing first it this school public why have to be nice like private room form your hotel. 4. I still keep the old saying that I didn't discount or buy reviews from customers who wrote 5-star reviews for my school. What you see and write down reviews That was a refund of my clients because they paid more than the price of the class. No truth. 5 dollars. It's too much for me to do that. OK Any way thank you very much. I have something to do.

Great class but here’s my issue:
Jan 2020 • Family
They give you a $5 discount if you write a 5 star review and show it to them.

That aside. Pick up was on time, market stop was brief and somewhat informative, Nina was great, 5star friendly, communicated clearly and managed several dishes being whipped up simultaneously. She had a great sense of humor, the dishes delicious. The environment of the class and washroom facilities were a 3. There was loud construction happening next door. After attending a full day cooking class in Hoi An, Vietnam (Green Bamboo) where environment, facilities, instruction, and food was all 5star, the bar got raised and perspective clearer.

Thank you very much Mr. Ron Stewart for your review. And glad that you have shared a good experience and your review shows stupidity in the content you have posted all our customer and all Travelers they will know all every thing about you did. but it is good that you said that we spoke to customers to write a 5-star review for us to have Discounts to customers and discount prices on your posted at 5 dollars I think you have your problem with your eyes looking or your ear can't hear. Which seemed a little expensive for us to make Please help you find evidence to confirm whether we actually do so with our customers or not.We will use your style that you give it to us but not 5 dollars. And there is a construction adjacent to our location that makes a lot of noise, causing you to dislike Please let you understand for thai people they must work at the day time all different jobs.It this your issue not the cooking School. It causes bad feelings and we are disappointed with the good knowledge that will show the humanity that has given to you away.If you are human you would not share about this thing. Thank you very much.

Highly recommended!
The whole evening class was relaxed, fun, well organised and so informative. Our instructor Nina was very friendly and gave each person plenty of one to one assistance. We were taken step by step through each dish and its preparation (from the market to the plate!). It was excellent. A brilliant way to spend an evening, worth every penny and more! I made a yellow curry nicer than I could ever have imagined! We even had a recipe book emailed to us to help us recreate the dishes again. Fantastic cook school, highly recommend!
