- 989rjs0 contributionsBest elephant sanctuaryThe absolute best experience in Phuket! If you want to visit elephants and care about how they are treated, then this is the place to come. We were able to feed an elephant, and while they are free to roam, we were able to get close to several and learn about their histories. I highly recommend this elephant sanctuary over any others on Phuket!Written 16 March 2025
- Tednmae0 contributionsI was so moved by this place that I wept. This place stirs your heart and emotions. I learnt so much about elephants and the cruelty we as humans have forced them to endure. I cried my eyes out when I watched the introductory video before we walked around. DO NOT go and ride elephants when overseas, DO NOT pay for some painting that you think an elephant decided to paint, DO NOT bath the elephant - all this is abuse and stressful for the elephant. The handler puts a nail behind the elephants ear and forces them to paint, you just don't get to see it. The elephants rides are not fun for an elephant chained all day long. Bathing an elephant by a person that they don't know is stressful and can be dangerous. Simply just go to this sanctuary and watch them at peace, eating, bathing themselves, walking around without chains. The staff love the elephants and they are treated with care and given veterinary attention. These elephants have been rescued from abusive situations and now get some peace. But unfortunately they were abused for more than thirty years prior to coming to this place. So I just ask you to consider the above. When in Thailand this is the place to go and learn and love the elephants. They take donations and are in the process of building an elephant veterinary centre so they can continue to provide good care for the elephants. All of this takes money for feed, care and staff. People lets look after our wildlife and treat them with the respect and care that they deserve. Your world deserves it and so do they.Written 14 March 2025
- Yizhou Y0 contributionsYour visit will genuinely support ethical elephant tourism. Our afternoon trip started with a taxi pickup from our hotel. Upon arrival, we were offered some wellies to walk in the sanctuary. Then an introductory video was shown that told the origin story of the sanctuary. At this point we were positive we made the right choice regarding which elephant park to visit. This is a truly ethical elephant park that is devoid of any animal abuse as any form of touching or bathing the elephants is forbidden. The tour itself started off in an ideal way. Our tour guide was quite a charismatic man and our group size was rather small (below 10). We learned that an elephant hospital was under construction and it would have opened just the day after our trip. Perhaps, you will get to see it in action. We walked around the sanctuary and were able to spot several elephants. Some were just minding their own business and others were eating at their designated feeding areas. They all looked happy with their tails wagging and ears flapping. The tour was cocluded with a feeding session, where everyone was given a basket of fruits to hand over to the elephants. Afterwards, we also enjoyed a delicious vegetarian buffet.Written 13 March 2025

- lukaszstepniewicz0 contributionsBeautiful half day tour to experience the nicest community of people looking after the elephants. If your in Phuket you can't miss this. After arriving we were greeted by multiple elephants roaming around. We then proceeded to feed the elephants water melon plus special rice balls the elephants loved it. We then jumped into the mud and got extremely dirty with the elephants covering them in mud and getting to know them better. Shortly after we jumped into a big river with all the elephants and scrubbed them till they were nice and clean. The elephants layed down and would spray and chill while we cleaned them. We concluded the half day tour with a beautiful buffet lunch which was extremely tasty. Was an extremely nice half day tour and was really nice to see elephants being so well looked after. Highly recommend this tour for anyone that wants to get close and personal with the animals but also knowing they are being looked after and not neglected. Look no further 10/10 5 star activityWritten 9 March 2025
- sugarn20250 contributionsA true ethical sanctuary and not like so many others that are just exploitationSo sad to hear from our guild (Alex) how few elephants are left, how most of them are so cruelly treated and exploited as slave labour and tourist attractions, and that there are so few real ethical places like PES. To see these amazing animals close up and content in their surroundings with a strong bond to their mahout is well worth the cost of the ticketsWritten 8 March 2025
- JJWaterside0 contributionsA day to be humbled. What an amazing place and story. This is not a place where you are going to pet the elephants, but you will get to feed them and watch them enjoy their safe, retirement in this beautiful park.Written 8 March 2025

Booked this trip through our hotel excursion rep, the price included being picked up from our hotel with only one other couple from a neighboring resort and visiting the sanctuary in the morning before heading to a farm for lunch in the afternoon followed by a tour explaining how local produce was made.
We had researched at length Elephant experiences before coming to Thailand as we were adamant that we wanted to visit an ethical one if possible which would not include bathing with them or riding on them but to allow them to be in as close to their natural habitat as possible with the elephants interest at heart not necessarily the tourist . The Phuket Elephant Sanctuary did exactly what it said on the tin, taking in old, disabled and rescued elephants and allowing them to live out their best days.
We would highly recommend this place if a sanctuary is what you’re looking for, the guide that we had who took us another 2 couples around was really knowledgeable and made the whole experience better knowing how they care for these old and sometimes disabled elephants . We didn’t feel rushed at any point on the tour.
Our experience also included welcome drinks and snacks, a 20 minute introduction video about how the sanctuary was created, the tour itself self walking on the platforms above the 12 elephants which lasted around one hour, an opportunity to feed two of the elephants from a respectful and safe distance for both the elephants and visitors and finally a mocktail with some fries and banana samosas before having chance to visit their gift shop.
The whole place is clean, tidy and really well run. They also have a vet hospital being constructed to assist with the sick elephants careThroughly recommend this place for anyone looking to see elephants ethnically cared for in Thailand .

Here you will be very well received, the people are adorable, the guide is very attentive
You will have unlimited food and drink, with a snack at the end of the visit with a cocktail chosen in advance.
The best is superb, the elephants wave according to their desire, too hot they will cool off in the numerous water points. Each female has her own caregiver, who follows her everywhere, ensuring that she has enough to eat, and not too hot.
I had the chance to feed 2 greedy females.
Here the elephants are not forced to do anything.
No forced photo, no forced mud bath etc.
We are there to observe them very closely but it is up to them to come if they want.
Here they have the choice which is not the case in other centers which call themselves “sanctuary”.
Very good time spent there
We are acting for a good cause by going there and supporting this initiative which will change awareness about this unfortunate tourism around elephants.
You will learn each story of each elephant you come across, their stories are very sad.
Go there with your eyes closed, it’s the thing to do during your vacation in Thailand, a real human/animal experience 😊😊

Visiting Phuket Elephant Sanctuary was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of my life. From start to finish, everything was well-organized, ethical, and deeply moving. Seeing these rescued elephants roam freely, play in the water, and just enjoy life in a safe and loving environment was amazing.
A huge shoutout to my tour guide, Rita, who made the experience even more special. Her knowledge, passion, and genuine love for the elephants were inspiring. She took the time to share each elephant’s story, explain their rehabilitation process, and answer every question with patience and enthusiasm. Her energy and warmth made the tour unforgettable!
It’s clear that Phuket Elephant Sanctuary truly puts the well-being of the elephants first. No chains, no riding—just pure respect for these gentle giants. If you’re looking for an ethical way to interact with elephants in phuket, this is the place to go. 100% recommended!

The only place that seems to have the elephants needs before tourist's wants.
It's very well done and they want to protect the elephant from being exploited. Yes we did get to feed the "big machine" elephant on her terms and touch hef trunk but we were there to see them not touch them
They deserve a piece full retired life and i know Was happy to support that highly recommend a visit.
Staff and food were great

****** 5/5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FAMILIES
Our visit to Phuket Elephant Sanctuary (PES) has been one of our highlights during our 2022 summer holiday in Phuket. In tow with my 9 & 7 year olds, we did a treetop canopy walk and was guided by a very helpful and experienced Yaya.
My kids were asking a lot of questions and they had certainly learnt a lot about nature & wildlife conservation. Yaya was very patient in explaining each of the rescued elephants and its life stories.
We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary drinks, food, snacks and gifts from Phuket Elephant Sanctuary throughout the entire afternoon. All the staff members were very attentive - offering us bottles of cold water, mosquito spray, umbrellas etc.
From the start till the end, the hospitality has been amazing and our experience is nothing short of phenomenal.
While the tourist experience may seem less interactive than other elephant "sanctuaries" on Phuket which offers mud bathing, elephant riding etc, PES is the only 100% genuine elephant rescue center on the island.
I'm really happy that both my kids had such an educational and immersive experience. I recommend this to all families who want their children to learn, protect and respect wildlife and our planet.

Came here with a group of 4 Adults and 8 kids (aged 5-13) and did the Canopy Walkway tour. Whole process was amazingly organised with great customer service from the second we opened the door of our van on arrival, to the friendly and informative guide, and the welcome and finish snacks and drinks.
The tour included some feeding, walking over the canopy and walking on the Forrest floor with the Elephants. This shorter tour was perfect for our younger kids in the group, I think if we’d chosen one of the longer half day tours they would have wilted in the Sun.
Highly recommend!

This is THE elephant tour to do if you are passionate about these gentle creatures!
and the one recommended by National Geographic and The World Animal Protection. interaction is kept to a minimum to protect them but you can feed and stroke them. We did the canopy tour which lasts about 90 minutes, which in the hot sun is plenty! The tour groups are kept small (just 7 in our group) and You start with a little ride from their guide offices to the sanctuary (about 10 minutes), followed by complimentary refreshments. Then the guide plays you a video of how elephants have been treated by various companies purely for the enjoyment and entertainment of visitors. Be prepared to cry at this point! You then start out of the aerial walkway which is a brilliant way to first see the elephants. Each elephant has its on carer as they are free to roam anywhere on the 30 acre site. You then walk down to the ground level and interact with the elephants by watching the mahout feed them. At the end of the tour you get to feed the elephants tour which is amazing. I really felt that this was a respectful way to see the elephants (who incidentally are the most intelligent animal on earth, after humans). Afterwards we had a very nice mocktail, snacks and a really nice complimentary gift as a thank you. Absolutely the best thing I did in Thailand

This was hands down our favorite experience while visiting Phuket, Thailand! The work done at this elephant sanctuary is so special and the staff does an incredible job. It was well worth the money for the ticket and the money also goes to support a great cause. The staff was very organized from beginning to end. We did the canopy walkway, and Jeffy was our guide. He knew each elephant very well, we learned so much and had all our questions answered by him. The experience included time seeing the elephants from the walkway as well as up close and feeding the elephants, you’re also served tasty drinks and given many snacks, and to top it all off you get a souvenir to take home. If you’re looking to see elephants while visiting Thailand you must come here!

If you want to see elephants, then please pick this place! It is one of the only ethical elephant sanctuaries and you are encouraged to observe them from an overhead walkway. They are all rescued, and the staff all know each one and their backstories. It is heart breaking to hear how badly these animals have been treated before being rescued, but here they are loved and looked after - free to roam around in a 30 acre park. Ticket sales from visitors like you and me are their main source of revenue to raise funds to rescue an elephant. They have capacity for 12 more, so please help them by choosing this sanctuary in such a worthwhile cause. I had a wonderful time!

This was an excellent tour. We researched where to go based on the treatment of the elephants and human access to them before we chose this one. As a Sanctuary we wanted to make sure we were merely observers, not interfering with their lives by touching, riding or bathing them. And this place did just that. There were 13 rescued elephants from logging, riding or tourism when we were there, with the goal of 24 elephants. There is a handler for every elephant as they cannot survive in the wild on their own. There are sad stories for each one of them, but they are well cared for here. We did get to feed the elephants fresh food provided by the guides from a distance. We took the canopy walkways to watch the elephants without interference. Then we wandered the grounds with the guide and if the elephants chose to come near us for pictures that was great, but if they chose not to, they just wandered away. I got some awesome pictures. I really felt my admission fee and donations were genuinely going to a great purpose. I would recommend this Sanctuary Tour.

I don’t believe so as need to go to office to be assigned your group tour and then taken by jeeps . There is plenty of parking at offices though
