About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- keefpringle0 contributionsA unique and fascinating glimpse of a slice of otherwise inaccessible Hanoi life. Get off the beaten track with Kien!!What an awesome tour! Definitely for those visitors looking for something off of the beaten track. Kien gave us insight into a neighbourhood that foreigners would otherwise never get to see. The first 45 minutes were in a local cafe getting acquainted and learning 2000 years of history! This may sound like a lot, but it is key in contextualising and understanding the tour that follows. Plenty more to say and I will leave it there for others to discover. Very highly recommend.Written 24 December 2024
- viperex190 contributionsExcellent Historical Tour of the CityI am very glad we booked this tour. Mina was an excellent guide, charismatic and informative. The pace of the tour is great for admiring the area without getting too tired from all the walking. This is a great way to learn more about the city's history (and Vietnam as a whole) from a local, with a few goodies included.Written 10 December 2024
- thomasmayerleipzig0 contributionsA must-do in Hanoi! As many other reviewers have mentioned, this is such a unique experience. Kien is able to run this tour solely because of his personal relationships with the locals in the black market. You get to see a unique glimpse into the life of locals in Hanoi. Great storyteller. Amazing learnings about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam. Must do!Written 15 November 2024
- nicoleg460 contributionsPut this tour at the top of your list!I’d highly recommend this tour for people wanting and authentic and eye opening tour of the real Hanoi. Kien shared stories about the history of Hanoi, his own family, and local communities. Kien has built relationships with the locals which meant we had access to areas not frequented by tourists including black market shops and local residential buildings. Kien himself is a fascinating individual and talking to him was insightful and an absolute pleasure. I’d definitely put this tour at the top of your list.Written 20 October 2024
- Ishan B0 contributionsBehind the scenes Hanoi historyThis tour was the perfect way to learn background and below-the-surface history of Vietnam and Hanoi. Kien was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide, taking us through the Cho Gioi market and explaining the subsidy era that led to its creation. He also gave us extensive history on local commerce, living situations and talked about Vietnam’s many conflicts with large powers and its neighbours. Highly recommend this tour for visitors to Hanoi who are interested in getting a bit off the beaten track and learning about Hanoi’s rich history!Written 4 October 2024
- viveksingh250 contributionsExcellent tour with Kien PhamKien Pham met us at the meeting point on time. He took us around the old quarter as per the itinerary and explained to us everything in great detail. His grasp of English, knowledge of history and sense of humor was excellent. We were offered complimentary refreshments during breaks throughout the tour. Overall an excellent experience.Written 13 August 2024
- Lisa E0 contributionsHidden gems of HanoiMy sons and really enjoyed our afternoon walking tour with Mina. We saw and experienced things that you would never find without a guide. She was very informative and friendly. This was recommended to us by a tour guide we met in Ho Chi Minh City. Would highly recommend this tour.Written 11 July 2024
- dangerindesign0 contributionsA fun and eye-opening tour of Hanoi! It’s our first time going to Vietnam and we can only explore Hanoi due to the limited time we have. So my sister booked us a walking tour in the One Trip by Local website. The tour company made sure we understood where to meet our guide, photos and all and our guide was Mina contacted us the day before the tour to confirm everything. So communication was great! We met Mina and we already know the vibes was going to be great just by meeting her, I think it helped that we’re somewhat in the same age group. She was more than punctual, we got there early and she was already there! We started off the tour with the view of the city on the rooftop of a hotel and got some amazing coffee afterwards and we learned and discussed Vietnam’s history. Mina’s storytelling was clear, you can see she’s so passionate about her country and history. But what really stood out for us was the honesty she presented, learning about the horrors Vietnam has suffered at the hands of colonizers and invaders. After having the eye-opening history lesson with our coffee, we headed to explore the city. She brought us to different places, from historical buildings to narrow alleyways! Giving us the background and history of each place and how it functions now in the present. And she offered to take our photos multiple times as well. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she certainly was ours! To hear it from a local’s point of view is both educational and fascinating. We learned so much from the short time we had with her!Written 27 June 2024

- Rgav120 contributionsRelaxed approach but very informativeI really enjoyed my tour with Mina. Her English was fantastic and she shared her extensive knowledge of coffee and Vietnamese history with an infectious enthusiasm. My basic knowledge both was limited and I felt she gauged this well so as not to overwhelm us with too much detail. The tour was topped off with a lovely coffee and tasty ice cream! 10/10 recommend.Written 22 May 2024
- 2pinkm0 contributionsAmazing and knowledgeable guideOur host Mina, was splendid in sharing the history of Vietnam while sprinkling her own personal stories. She’s fantastic as a guide, keeping us all engaged and recommending really yummy coffee and coconut milk ice cream. I tried the yogurt coffee for my sensitive tummy while my friends tried the coconut coffee and lime coffee!:) I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in having a fuller experience of Hanoi and how they are such resilient people.Written 17 May 2024

This tour gave me an opportunity to witness the city and food from a local point of view. Had an opportunity to sample several different types of food at different restaurants. Walked the streets with a tour guide that spoke English quite fluently and was easy to understand.
Definitely would recommend to anyone that's interested in experiencing Hanoi from a local view!!

I loved it! Tony was a great guide who introduced Hanoi to us. He spoke great English and explained the history of the city. He even took us down alleys to where the local people live and told us about their way of life. The food was also great. We had a variety of food at all very local spots that tourists wouldn't have thought to try! Really reccomend the tour. Definitely a highlight of my trip. ide who introduced Hanoi to us. We had a fantastic tour this evening with Steve and his assistant Huyen (not sure if I spelled that right). It was great to walk around parts of the city getting to see how locals live and also trying some of the amazing food. Steve is a very nice young man with great English and enthusiastically told us about Vietnamese food, people and culture. Thank you Steve and best of luck with college and in the future, hope to meet you again. It was lovely to meet you also Huyen!

So for our last day in Hanoi and also our last day in Vietnam, we decided to join a local street food tour. And we are so glad we did it! Joy was an amazing, friendly and very positive tour guide. She made all of us tourists feel welcomed and she answered questions from our inquisitive minds.
Every food stop that we did was delicious and glad we planned ahead of time and did not eat lunch prior to joining the tour. My faves would be the noodle salad bowl, the fresh banh mi and the OG egg coffee where it was created decades ago.
Highly recommend!

It’s a great tour for people who want to taste the authentic food of Vietnam. The guide Huyen was charming and her energy was amazing! She knew all the history and the important details about the food and the city, she took us to places and restaurants I could never find by myself.
I highly recommend to everyone who visits Hanoi, and if you have Huyen with your group you’re very lucky!

Last minute, I decided to book a private food walking tour. I'm glad I did the tour as the host, Adam, showed me some great places I would not have discovered on my own. The host was a little confusing on what was included in the tour price, since the food is fairly inexpensive I didn't give it too much thought. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who wants to go a little outside their comfort zone a try some great food in the old quarter.

Just got back from the 2pm slot with Anh (I'm sorry if I misspelled that dude) and it is well worth the cost, especially if you are new to Vietnamese foods.
If you are already familiar with the ones they have planned, mention it and they might find something else for you (but IDK I'm just some guy): I'd already tried egg coffee (delicious BTW, but each place keeps their recipe secret apparently), so Anh (again, sorry) suggested we try something else.
This is a very basic tour so there's not much to say: you're basically paying 5 - 15 bucks, depending on your home currency, to conversate with an English speaking Vietnamese college student for an hour or three as they lead you to different old quarter streets to eat delicious food.
Well worth it IMO, and Anh(!?) was a fantastic conversationalist. Thanks dude, wish you luck with whatever the future brings.

Wow what a way to start our trip here in Hanoi! We had the amazing Yen as our tour guide and she showed so much enthusiasm and passion for all the food and stories that this interesting city had to offer. I'd definitely recommend this tour to all tourists who want to try authentic vietnanese food and challenge themselves to go to places that they may be hesitant to approach. Yen also gave us an insightful look into the history of Hanoi and Old Quarter. We greatly appreciated this aspect of the tour and it showed how truely unique this place is.
Thank you so much Yen for an amazing tour!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this tour, but Zel and Lucas made my tour the best it could have been. They made everyone feel welcome and gave us a lot of great information on the Old Quarter and the food that Vietnamese people eat. After five stops and five tasty bites it was time to say goodbye, but for once I truly felt like two more hours would have been quite alright. I highly recommend doing this tour, especially if you are lucky enough to have to same guides as me.

An incredible tour full of great food, conversations, and tidbits about Hanoi! Highly recommend for an intro into Vietnamese street food. We were ecstatic to find a vegetarian option with One Trip and Cong, our tour guide, did a stellar job finding really tasty options. We also wouldn't have found most of these vendors just walking around on our own, so we really recommend this tour for some hidden gems. Cong was really accommodating and the perfect tour guide. He handled everything for us and was really knowledgeable about the food/life in Hanoi. We loved hanging out with him. You can tell he really loves what he does and I can say I found a new friend in Hanoi :)

Approximately how much money will we need to bring to pay for the dishes we try?
Written 24 December 2019
Money will not be a problem. It will be around 300K - 350K VND or 15 USD per person, food is really cheap. It won't be over $20. Remember to tip the tour guide, they are mostly students and they don't get paid.
